Even though that video can be interpreted as a tease for ANYTHING Playstation related, I really do hope it's new hardware and, despite the fact I played 360 almost exclusively this generation, I really hope Sony knocks it out of the park on this one. Healthy and fierce competition is good for us consumers and Sony has more first party franchises I'm interested in than Microsoft and still gets a number of Japanese exclusives I'm interested in. I appreciated their move to region free this generation too and hope the next console remains so. I really do hope they do something new with the controller this generation though. The 360 control is, in my opinion, much more comfortable to hold and use, and the triggers on the DS3 are garbage. If Sony can do that and reach parity with XBL and/or Steam in the online arena and put more standard hardware in their console this time (i.e. more similar to PC architecture and less like the Cell processor) Sony has an excellent shot of making a comeback this generation.

I think the WiiU is too underpowered to hang with the other two this generation and the tablet is less accessible or approachable to non-gamers than the Wii controller. I'm of the opinion that most non-gamers that came into the market with the Wii are now back out of the console market, settling largely for games they can play on their phone or tablet or maybe even Facebook. Remember, the Wii came out in 2007 and mobile gaming was nowhere near as ubiquitous as it is today.

As yet there has been no real"Oh shit, gotta have THAT" moment with any game making use of the WiiU controller yet and the only thing most people seem to be using it for is to play games without using their TV which for most gamers I'd think is a solution for a problem that doesn't exist.

Microsoft, for my money, has been very lazy of recent in giving me any reason to stick with them in the next generation. Using XBL Gold as a paywall behind which to hide Netflix and party chat while offering no real benefit to the gaming experience (i.e. dedicated servers, removal of ads, customizable dashboard, or anything like PS+ offers) is beginning to leave a bad taste in my mouth. Unless they make huge strides of their own with their new console, I'll be changing platforms this generation, either to PS or fully to Steam, friends list be damned.

Since it's been so long for this generation, I think that the one that comes out with the console first may be the winner this time. Many like me are so ready for a new generation. If they come out first and come out strong, we will get on board rather than waiting for Microsoft.

Less holy shit are strong rumours that we've been worrying about all the time that Europe will wait until early 2014 but eh as long as it's free online and region-less (developer/publisher choice yeah..) I'll wait a month or two extra in exchange for not getting as badly fucked in the ass by the pricing like Nintendo always have been fucking us.

Prediction - it's a PS Vita slim and Sony will either think this hype is great like idiots or realise they've let people down and start back pedalling. The only way they will come out strong is if they miraculously have come up with a way to make the ps4 significantly different from the ps3, and personally I dont know how they could do that. How do you top Uncharted 3 graphically? What game could they possibly show to make everyone go 'I have to get one of those!'

I would be willing to bet my entire internet fortune on hardware specs not being revealed.

I am used to buying all the consoles but having bought the Wii U and having prefered the Xbox 360 over my PS3, I think i would be better off spending my money on the next Xbox. I did buy a Vita at launch so who knows. They might change my mind on the day of the announcement. It will have to be really special though!

Yeah they're not going to pay for an event in NYC unless they have a new system, because that stuff it expensive. Cool, they're first out of the gates! I'd be down with a Vita redesign as we though.

I like this ad because it reminds me of the PS1's techno-soaked ads from the mid 90's.

The PS3 was a bit of a lump, so I'd like to see Sony get back to what they do best - hardware that looks slick as hell.

Sony's never been much of a teaser company, so if they're doing this, it sounds like it could only be the new console. I will bet all the Brad Bucks I have this doesn't turn out to be a Vita upgrade like people are saying.

They're going to announce Internet Explorer 5.0 for Playstation Plus subscribers, of course!

Can't wait for the epic new memes that will surely be used on every PS4 related discussion for years to come...

With new hardware 'topping' Uncharted 3 visually shouldn't be much of a problem. In fact, Sony's biggest problem during this generation was their hardware was too expensive for too long and most of the third party exclusives they hang their hat on went multiplatform, and maybe stumbling a little on online/community stuff early on. They avoid that shit and they are sitting pretty.

I can't tell whats worse; that Sony made a 45 second video for a release date or the fact that you posted it for people to waste their time watching it.

I was about to say. If it were all about hardware sales, than the Wii would be the most celebrated console ever and have the biggest library. It isn't about some esoteric race to first: it's about making that fat money.

As to a new system, I really hope that's not it. I'd rather they announce at E3 or in 2014. We're finally seeing the PS3 coming into its own. If anything, I'd like some damned software announcements for the anaemic Vita.
