All this talk of fusion just makes me want a new Persona game.

Posted by eroticfishcake

Now VideoGameKing can enjoy all the glory of SMT:DS...IN THREEE DEEEE!!!!

One thing you can always bet on is that the voice acting for JRPG's is going to terrible.

Posted by buft

any news for europe?

Posted by MrOldboy

does it look any different? cant tell.

Posted by ervonymous

Wait, voice acting? Cool.

They really should've kept some of the features they introduced in this, having to fart around in the fusing menu in Strange Journey was an unnecessary step back.

Posted by drowsap

lol i love crazy ass Japan if we lose we die lol

Dont forget to fuse

Posted by fox01313

Prefer the other Atlus Devil Summoner 2 game, this one has characters that just seem too generic.

Persona 3 FES and Persona 4 have great voice acting.

Damn, Atlus is hurting me with the lack of PAL releases. I just want to buy your game.

Not with Atlus, maybe the odd annoying voice here and there but usually it's quality.

Is the game played on the bottom screen? Seems odd that it's not in widescreen, even if it is a DS port.

Posted by RaffaChicken

Can anyone explain to me where anime voice actors learn to talk like that?

Posted by GoldBlaze

Sounds like Spike Spencer and Melissa Fahn.

This is the only game that has made me want a 3DS but I'm going to resist because later in the year I'm getting a Vita and will download Persona 2: Innocent Sin.

Thank you kind sir, you have performed your duty admirably and have now made me glad I did not purchase a 3DS for this game.

Posted by LiquidPrince

The added audio is why I'm going to pick this up again!

Posted by Oginam

@RE_Player92: I didn't find the game to be that bad. Little slow and some clunky menus are the only things I found annoying.

In all honesty though, unless you can turn the voices off, the regular DS release of the game is fine. There is a huge amount of dialogue in the game, so those voices will get annoying quick.

As another fellow consumer, I'd like to say I'm on the final "day" of the DS original and think it's awesome. Different strokes for different folks!

That said, I'm not sure what to think of the voice acting. Then again, I find most anime English dubs just horrific, though I did enjoy Persona 4's dub.

Posted by OllyOxenFree

I think I'll pass on this one.

Posted by PKHilson

OVERCLOCKED!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Kyle

Cool, I never played this on the DS. Then again, I also don't have a 3DS... Really glad they added voice. I'll play this for sure when/if I get a 3DS.

Posted by Wandrecanada

Those voices are done by actual anime voice artists.  I've heard at least one before for certain.  Spike Spencer, also known for voicing the annoying Shinji in Evangelion.  I personally know him best for his role as Akito Tenkawa in Martian Successor Nadesico.

Posted by geirr

This sounds incredibly awkward.

Posted by ashogo

why is the voice acting so tacky?

Ahh ok, that explains why they sound so horrible.

Still never got to play Devil Survivor. None of my stores sell it.

very much agreed

Played this on the DS, got the "best" ending on my first playthrough, and thought I was done. But just hearing that awesome music has shattered my resolve. I'll just pretend it's like a donation to Atlus so they keep making the games I enjoy playing. Also I'd love to see how an 8th day gets shoehorned in there. Can you imagine ANOTHER dungeon at the end of Persona 4? Yeah...

Look, we get you hated the Game Video_Game_King and apparently this brendan person, but I didn't have ANY issues with this game and I've just arrived at the ending.. So I'm sorry the game was too much for you, here is a cookie.

Have you played Final Fantasy Tactics and Bahamut Lagoon? Because those games are far better than Devil Survivor, and they're the games that Devil Survivor ripped off.

This game was fantastic on the DS. I'm still on the fence about picking up the re-release, but those added voice overs sure are tempting...

Dude, Imma tell you right now, stop. Unless you wanna claim that Disgaea also ripped off FF tactics and OTHER tactics type rpg's that have been out over the recent years. The game was too hard for you, I get it, but stop sounding so sore about it.
Posted by coakroach

Nintendogs was a port, Ocarina of Time was a port, Resident Evil was a port...I...wha?

Posted by Beforet

In general, I like Atlus's dub jobs, but this sounds lacking. Even Laura Baily sounds like she's phoning it in. I think I'll stick with the silent DS version.

Sorry man, it's called a genre. I love FFT as much as the next game, but if you want to argue this, you're also going to have to argue FFT being a rip-off of Tactics Ogre, of that being a rip-off of Fire Emblem, of Fire Emblem being a rip-off of flippin' chess. Sorry you didn't like Devil Survivor, but this is asinine logic.

It wasn't too hard for me; it was straight up hateful. That game does not want the player to succeed under any condition, and will do anything to prevent the player from winning. Please refer to Response 2 for more.

@Young_Scott

Fair enough, I shall concede that point to you. However, I'm still gonna yell about how bad Devil Survivor is :P.

Atlus, the only publisher I'm willing to spending money on without question.

Um... if you used proper tactics (ohhh see?) you will win without issues, you need the right demons and abilities that will help you win.. sounds like you didn't do that and now your hurt about the issue you know? The game was too much for you. Your too proud to admit it and would rather trash the game than concede.

I never said you were irrational. So no need for the rational think here. You didn't like the game, fair enough. But for VGK he's just having an all out hatred for a system that he had no grasp of.

I see that my arguing with you will accomplish little, so I'll let myself do the talking. Wait...I mean "I'll quote myself from when I originally played the game":

"No matter what you do, the game is always one step ahead, ready to force you into an unskippable game over screen. If you prioritize your abilities and skill cracks to the best of your abilities, enemies will start configuring themselves in the exact manner that destroys your carefully laid-out stratagem; if you decide to split up your forces to eliminate the demons more efficiently, they'll just gang up on your tiny little teams and absolutely massacre them; if the line between victory and defeat is the death of one enemy, the random number generator will randomly generate a game over screen; and if you're somehow skilled enough to achieve your goals with little damage (or if you break down and buy a Game Shark*), the game will suddenly lock up on you."
Me, from when I originally blogged about it.

*Joke.

See? No matter what I tried, or how much I tried grinding, or what walkthrough I found, or how I arranged my forces, the game still found a way to spit in my face and laugh at me.

Then.. apparently... I dunno, maybe.. you were doing it wrong? And a game shark.. come on. it wasn't/ isn't that hard of a game. >< It's supposed to be challenging, and you weren't up for the task. You gotta set priorities, make sure to skill crack when you get a chance to grind, use those new moves and make sure you have a good healer.. i don't see why your having such a hard time understanding that it wasn't that bad.

You were you know.. just not good at it..lol

I believe I addressed that in the chunk of text. You can't prioritize in this game, because it will always find a way to destroy those priorities. For example, you can lose the game by winning. I am not kidding or exaggerating in any way; the game will literally tell you that you've failed by following its instructions. How can I plan for such an event? How could I possibly foresee that doing what the game wanted is exactly what I wasn't supposed to do.

Are you REALLY going there. The game tells you when it's changing the rules. TELLS YOU. it'll tell you to defeat these people but DON'T kill them. Then things will change. A new enemy comes in, then it'll say "To win: Save these people/protect them till safe zone or kill all enemies." blah blah blah... your just sitting here and telling me you didn't pay attention. That AND you can pull up that screen if you need to see again what you need to do for a battle...

Your just tossing up excuses at this point.
Posted by Video_Game_King
@Catolf

Really? The game's telling me that it's changing the rules there? It only asks you if you're sure in that clip; it never says "this is an easy way to lose the game" or anything like that. It's very easy to see that as a regular "are you sure" message, so there's no way to know that you're doing something wrong. Again, you can lose by winning.
