Just picked this one up, against half the people on this forum that say it sucks, and I am loving it.

Well, Amane's voice sounded pretty good to me anyway. That'll be a boon for the 8th day, but she's kind of a side character days 1-7.

If anything the biggest problem with the VA is that Yuzu should sound MORE annoying.

I totally agree about the voice acting being more than kind of silly sounding, but so was a lot of the dialogue. Devil Survivor was sort of endearingly ridiculous.

Yeaaaahhhh, not reading the other comments for fear of spoilers.

Super excited about this release -- I missed the original DS version and am happy that there's voice acting (even if it does sound a little hammy). I don't think I'll be getting a 3DS until xmas, though, so I won't be playing it this year, unfortunately :/

Some of that voice acting needs some overclocking but not a huge deal.

Devil Survivor was a great game. Rarely has a tactics game challenged me as much as this game did. All these fairies complaining about the difficulty probably shouldn't be anywhere near the SMT series.

Well it is the apocalypse with summoning demons from a DS. Usually the voice acting gets better when in serious moments.

LOL. The voice acting sounds hammy. I don't think it's completely horrible, I just wish it wasn't so goofy.

it's common curtsey duder. Even if you don't cover it after it's been so long you at least say spoiler alert, this is forums 101..-_-

what are you talking about? Are you seriously sitting here arguing for the sake of arguing. It happens in events with characters that may be recrutable, with characters you need to save, or even fight to snap out of it. At this point this 'argument' which is more like a rant on your end has been argued into the ground and took up the entire thread. So I'll say this, if you wish to continue this.. rant.. of yours, do it via PM. Good lord...

Since it results in an automatic game over, I doubt that a Let's Play would cover it, and since the only video I could find edited out the actual battle (meaning that I can't see rule changes of any kind in the video)...
Yes, exactly, thats how it changes. They have done many of those, from defeat this person to save this person, from stay and fight to flee, it'll happen during gameplay, thus there is no way to lose while winning. If you already know this then why say that you lose while winning.. makes no sense at all to me unless your just trying to argue for the sake of argument.

I wish I could tell you if what you're saying is true, but since the video cuts away to the end of the battle (and I doubt there are other videos of it), there's no way to tell. Shit. I destroyed the argument, but not in a good way, or even a bad way.

A.) I have good reasons. I've listed them off.
B.) I have other reasons for trashing the game; the hateful difficulty is just one of the biggest reasons.
C.) I haven't played Nocturne, so the point's kinda moot.
D.) How did the rules change? The game gave me a choice to destroy all the enemies; I did so, and it told me that I wasn't supposed to do that. How am I supposed to adapt to rules when they're changed after the fact? I don't exactly have a time machine.
Your making it sound like you beat the game when your talking to the other person, if so how the flipping hell did you manage to do so without noticing the game changing it's rules? unless you cheated or watching the endings on youtube, this makes no damn sense.

And what do you mean you wish you could tell me if what I'm saying is true? I know it's true, i've played the game, watch a let's play of certain battles if you need too but the rules change.

That would be a cool twist if the game actually counted it as an ending and not a game over. (I should probably mention that I didn't actually go for the "kill them all" choice; I tried, died, then sided with the angels.) I don't care too much about good or bad endings (although the ending I did get gave me a bunch of shit for following what it was telling me was the morally virtuous path), but I do care when the game relabels a success as a blatant failure.

I'll just leave it at "I addressed that."

@OriginalGman: I haven't played Persona 4, nor have I watched the Endurance Run (specifically because I haven't played Persona 4), so I can't respond to that point. However, if I remember correctly, there is an ending where you can escape the lockdown. Besides, how the hell am I supposed to know that beating both the devils and the angels is a no-no? The game also makes a big deal of the demons being assholes, but it's perfectly fine to choose the demon side and get an ending with Naoya or whoever else sided with them (what's the name of the nerdy kid who ends up leaving?). You're probably the biggest masochist in the world. There's unforgiving, and then there's going out of your way to make sure the player fails. Again, how is this any different from I Wanna Be the Guy crashing a moon down on you out of absolutely nowhere? Besides, I hate Devil Survivor for more than the blistering difficulty, even if it's a large part of why I hate it.

I actually think not taking sides is the way to go, but this game is supposed to be about your choices. You chose to fight everyone, and then chose to run away. And running away meant not playing the game anymore. Getting the best, most satisfying endings in these games isn't supposed to be easy, nor obvious. Siding with the demons or angels isn't right or wrong, it's supposed to be which philosophy you agree with more. Your philosophy was obviously that this shit was getting way too real, and to get the fuck out of Dodge. They had an ending for that, and it sucked. Seems like a pretty good game to me.

I played a little bit of I Wanna Be The Guy, and can only say that I had much less trouble with Devil Survivor. Meaning that while this game is somewhat hard, I didn't die every 5 seconds and was able to overcome any time I did die with strategy, and not with grinding.

@Catolf:   Really? The game's telling me that it's changing the rules there? It only asks you if you're sure in that clip; it never says "this is an easy way to lose the game" or anything like that. It's very easy to see that as a regular "are you sure" message, so there's no way to know that you're doing something wrong. Again, you can lose by winning.

Your argument is MOOT if the game tells you the rules are changing. And no they don't ask "are you sure" when you complete one objective and things are about to change the game looks like it goes back to the 'start battle' screen and says "To Win:" then "To Lose" I'm sorry you had a hard time, and I'm sure you need a hug and someone to tell you it's gunna be okay, so *hug* it's gunna be okay.. but this game will NOT hold your hand.

Your trashing this game for no good reason other than it's hard. If you want a HARD game please try out Nocturne, also by Atlus. Then you can cry and whine all you want and people will understand, but here, no.. you cannot lose by winning. The rules have already changed, you just didn't pay attention.

I've had the rules change on me more than a few times during a game, you adapt or die, you died. And that's okay.

They are just reading as the game's text shows, it's just the text is pure cheese. XD

But at least someone agree's with me that the game was fine, it's not as hard as VGK says.

I believe I addressed that in the chunk of text. You can't prioritize in this game, because it will always find a way to destroy those priorities. For example, you can lose the game by winning. I am not kidding or exaggerating in any way; the game will literally tell you that you've failed by following its instructions. How can I plan for such an event? How could I possibly foresee that doing what the game wanted is exactly what I wasn't supposed to do.
Are you REALLY going there. The game tells you when it's changing the rules. TELLS YOU. it'll tell you to defeat these people but DON'T kill them. Then things will change. A new enemy comes in, then it'll say "To win: Save these people/protect them till safe zone or kill all enemies." blah blah blah... your just sitting here and telling me you didn't pay attention. That AND you can pull up that screen if you need to see again what you need to do for a battle...

Your just tossing up excuses at this point.

I see that my arguing with you will accomplish little, so I'll let myself do the talking. Wait...I mean "I'll quote myself from when I originally played the game":

"No matter what you do, the game is always one step ahead, ready to force you into an unskippable game over screen. If you prioritize your abilities and skill cracks to the best of your abilities, enemies will start configuring themselves in the exact manner that destroys your carefully laid-out stratagem; if you decide to split up your forces to eliminate the demons more efficiently, they'll just gang up on your tiny little teams and absolutely massacre them; if the line between victory and defeat is the death of one enemy, the random number generator will randomly generate a game over screen; and if you're somehow skilled enough to achieve your goals with little damage (or if you break down and buy a Game Shark*), the game will suddenly lock up on you."
Me, from when I originally blogged about it.  *Joke. See? No matter what I tried, or how much I tried grinding, or what walkthrough I found, or how I arranged my forces, the game still found a way to spit in my face and laugh at me.
Then.. apparently... I dunno, maybe.. you were doing it wrong? And a game shark.. come on. it wasn't/ isn't that hard of a game. >< It's supposed to be challenging, and you weren't up for the task. You gotta set priorities, make sure to skill crack when you get a chance to grind, use those new moves and make sure you have a good healer.. i don't see why your having such a hard time understanding that it wasn't that bad.

Um... if you used proper tactics (ohhh see?) you will win without issues, you need the right demons and abilities that will help you win.. sounds like you didn't do that and now your hurt about the issue you know? The game was too much for you. Your too proud to admit it and would rather trash the game than concede.

I never said you were irrational. So no need for the rational think here. You didn't like the game, fair enough. But for VGK he's just having an all out hatred for a system that he had no grasp of.

Sorry man, it's called a genre. I love FFT as much as the next game, but if you want to argue this, you're also going to have to argue FFT being a rip-off of Tactics Ogre, of that being a rip-off of Fire Emblem, of Fire Emblem being a rip-off of flippin' chess. Sorry you didn't like Devil Survivor, but this is asinine logic.

In general, I like Atlus's dub jobs, but this sounds lacking. Even Laura Baily sounds like she's phoning it in. I think I'll stick with the silent DS version.

@Catolf:   Have you played Final Fantasy Tactics and Bahamut Lagoon? Because those games are far better than Devil Survivor, and they're the games that Devil Survivor ripped off.
Dude, Imma tell you right now, stop. Unless you wanna claim that Disgaea also ripped off FF tactics and OTHER tactics type rpg's that have been out over the recent years. The game was too hard for you, I get it, but stop sounding so sore about it.

This game was fantastic on the DS. I'm still on the fence about picking up the re-release, but those added voice overs sure are tempting...

This is the only game that has made me want a 3DS but I'm going to resist because later in the year I'm getting a Vita and will download Persona 2: Innocent Sin.

It is my duty as a fellow consumer to tell you that I played this game for the DS and that I thought it was terrible.

I warned you :P.
Look, we get you hated the Game Video_Game_King and apparently this brendan person, but I didn't have ANY issues with this game and I've just arrived at the ending.. So I'm sorry the game was too much for you, here is a cookie.
