pretty smart idea. and it gets people talking. good stuff.

Holy crap, that product placement.

I know Sony really wants to market their smartphones, but making people hold the phones like that just makes them look like idiots.

Also: Side Talkin' Part 2!

Edited by vinster345

Great idea as long as it's not just sony phones. If it includes other models through an app, then its a brilliant idea.

Just seen on another site that it does. Hmmm, good work Sony

Posted by BigD145

So it's like the GBA and the GameCube, but more expensive?

Posted by SomeJerk

PS4 purchase redeemed! It better have no issue getting my already owned digital library of songs down though

This is a good idea. You can feel good about owning a smartphone, you can enjoy what amounts to a very fun party game, and you don't need anything else.

As an aside, are we to expect more of these game and news announcements? If what has been released by MS and Sony so far is small fry stuff; I wonder what the REAL secrets are?

LOL

The way the singstar mic's were thrown around at parties means I couldn't use a valuable breakable phone.

Posted by 2HeadedNinja

In reality this game is an eleborate trap to catch all of them models.

That's... actually pretty clever.

Edited by TurboMan

Why is everybody covering up the place your supposed to talk into on a phone to sing into the "microphone".

That drove me crazy for some reason.

Posted by cloudymusic

This is what SmartGlass should have been.

Posted by lemmingrush

I'm sure this app won't be on my Windows Phone. *Sniff* I'll go back to hunting cables. On a side rant I wouldn't mind if they released the Bluetooth mics here in the US.

I should imagine it'd work the same way that Beyond Two Souls phone app did, in that it'll just be a free downloadable app that connects to your system over your local network to interact.

Posted by Jiddra

Now if they could make the phone take OS voice commands also...

This is really clever.

why are all the singers singing into the speaker of the phone instead of the microphone??!

Posted by Dan_CiTi

If it works on the iPhone, and it works really well, Sony may have just hit it out of the park on this one. Also I hope there's a regular good microphone out there for PS4, just in case. I've never cared for SingStar, but this could be a big hit for them, especially knocking the mic out of the box they can sell it for cheaper and get a lot of people into the system.

Posted by Sparklykiss

That's pretty interesting and could help to make it a cheaper game as far as microphone/game bundles go. But at the same time this is totally weird. And as said before, this is probably what SmartGlass could've been.

hahaha!

Karaoké is the best. I'm weirdly excited for this.

This is genius. I will buy this.

FUCK YEAH! Time to restart my wishlist for 107th time!

@bigd145: If everyone at the time had owned a GBA, then sure.

Edited by Gaff

@olemarthin: @turboman: How else would people be able to see that it is a SONY™ XPERIA™ phone?

Posted by BigD145

@mackinder: The GBA had come down in price by the time any game was using it and people were outraged they'd be paying 50-100 for a "controller" for a $200 or less console. Crystal Chronicles released at $40? Many people did own a GBA. The minimum for a xperia phone is $180 and the PS4 is $400. A PS4 controller is around $60. Assuming this runs on other smart phones the price of them is just as high or higher than a Sony phone.

The median wage has fallen since the GameCube was first released.

Pretty neat.

Very cool idea, but if I was gonna bother I'd want a mic-ass-mic.

...plus I have very little confidence in my wife's Sony phone's battery.

As someone who been playing the series since the first game came out 10 years ago, I'm definitely looking forward to it on PS4. Oh, how I can't wait for people live streaming their drunken SingStar sessions.

Edited by spraynardtatum

I want to see the terms and conditions. Could be neat if it isn't also used for data-mining.

You could say this allows you to KINECT your voice to the ps4? I bet some people would really like to use this to control their ps4 ui or watch tv... This could get really big.

Posted by Mistzero

@somejerk: Dude fuck yeah, they better have fixed that shit. I remember when my original 60gb ps3 broke and when I got a new one all the songs I bought wouldn't transfer over, leading me to quit playing that game. YOU BETTER GET YOUR COPYRIGHT BULLSHIT RIGHT THIS TIME SONY!

Very smart.

Posted by afrofools

Just don't leave it on people's dashboards as a permanent unremovable advertisement.

pretty smart idea. and it gets people talking. good stuff.

Isn't the idea to get people talking rather than singing?

Posted by heatDrive88

Curious to know what the actual microphone quality is like though - aren't most phone microphones pieces of shit compared to the real deal? In fact I remember the PS3 Singstar microphones being highly sought after because they were of fairly great quality, and also being wireless.

Posted by AssInAss
Posted by LoktarOgar

This is slightly off topic, but this got me wondering about something. Do EU PS4s have Singstar on the XMB (or whatever you call it on the PS4) the same way it was forced onto EU PS3s?

For all the things Sony's done right lately, that still drives me crazy.

BUT HERE'S MY NUMBER

SO CALL ME MAYBE

Edited by Dallas_Raines

This is awesome, no more stupid mic clutter.(Thanks, RB3 and Lips)

Posted by RonGalaxy

Is there a secret club where everyone loves singstar or something? I always thought it was kind of dumb. Kind of surprised about the reaction to this.

Also, phone microphones suck. Doubt it would pick up pitch as accurately as a usb mic directly plugged in to the console. This is you singing into a shitty phone mic which is getting piped over your shitty internet into your ps3/4. They'd have to really work some magic for this to work perfectly.

Just makes me wish I could play it without the PS4 on my phone.

Karaoké

The accent make isn't necessary, not that it's a big deal or anything.

Posted by Jimbozu

Why does this look so much like a Microsoft commercial? They are basically using a bunch of modern UI tiles at 0:40.

Posted by zaphodi

Made it 10 seconds to the video, no thank you, next.

Posted by selbie

That dancin'......

Posted by T0MBraider

@bicycle_repairman: Because if you are having to hold any device to issue voice commands you may as well just use the controller.

Posted by flippyandnod

This is a good idea. Not requiring a peripheral means a lot more potential customers are accessible to the publisher/developer.

This game can be sold as a digital download, which would be impossible if it needed a peripheral.

Edited by retsub101

Fuuuuck! How did know one else think of this first!? It's obvious!

Shit, I could've been rich!

Edited by Grimmie92

@darkstalker: They develop and publish the series, it would be kinda silly to use anything other than a sony phone for this trailer

Posted by Fear_the_Booboo

@fuwano: Hey, it's the french touch :) !
