This is a good idea. You can feel good about owning a smartphone, you can enjoy what amounts to a very fun party game, and you don't need anything else.

As an aside, are we to expect more of these game and news announcements? If what has been released by MS and Sony so far is small fry stuff; I wonder what the REAL secrets are?

The way the singstar mic's were thrown around at parties means I couldn't use a valuable breakable phone.

In reality this game is an eleborate trap to catch all of them models.

Why is everybody covering up the place your supposed to talk into on a phone to sing into the "microphone".

I'm sure this app won't be on my Windows Phone. *Sniff* I'll go back to hunting cables. On a side rant I wouldn't mind if they released the Bluetooth mics here in the US.

I should imagine it'd work the same way that Beyond Two Souls phone app did, in that it'll just be a free downloadable app that connects to your system over your local network to interact.

Now if they could make the phone take OS voice commands also...

If it works on the iPhone, and it works really well, Sony may have just hit it out of the park on this one. Also I hope there's a regular good microphone out there for PS4, just in case. I've never cared for SingStar, but this could be a big hit for them, especially knocking the mic out of the box they can sell it for cheaper and get a lot of people into the system.

That's pretty interesting and could help to make it a cheaper game as far as microphone/game bundles go. But at the same time this is totally weird. And as said before, this is probably what SmartGlass could've been.

@mackinder: The GBA had come down in price by the time any game was using it and people were outraged they'd be paying 50-100 for a "controller" for a $200 or less console. Crystal Chronicles released at $40? Many people did own a GBA. The minimum for a xperia phone is $180 and the PS4 is $400. A PS4 controller is around $60. Assuming this runs on other smart phones the price of them is just as high or higher than a Sony phone.

The median wage has fallen since the GameCube was first released.

As someone who been playing the series since the first game came out 10 years ago, I'm definitely looking forward to it on PS4. Oh, how I can't wait for people live streaming their drunken SingStar sessions.

I want to see the terms and conditions. Could be neat if it isn't also used for data-mining.

You could say this allows you to KINECT your voice to the ps4? I bet some people would really like to use this to control their ps4 ui or watch tv... This could get really big.

Curious to know what the actual microphone quality is like though - aren't most phone microphones pieces of shit compared to the real deal? In fact I remember the PS3 Singstar microphones being highly sought after because they were of fairly great quality, and also being wireless.

This is slightly off topic, but this got me wondering about something. Do EU PS4s have Singstar on the XMB (or whatever you call it on the PS4) the same way it was forced onto EU PS3s?

For all the things Sony's done right lately, that still drives me crazy.

Is there a secret club where everyone loves singstar or something? I always thought it was kind of dumb. Kind of surprised about the reaction to this.

Also, phone microphones suck. Doubt it would pick up pitch as accurately as a usb mic directly plugged in to the console. This is you singing into a shitty phone mic which is getting piped over your shitty internet into your ps3/4. They'd have to really work some magic for this to work perfectly.

Just makes me wish I could play it without the PS4 on my phone.

The accent make isn't necessary, not that it's a big deal or anything.

This is a good idea. Not requiring a peripheral means a lot more potential customers are accessible to the publisher/developer.

This game can be sold as a digital download, which would be impossible if it needed a peripheral.
