Skullgirls' Parasoul Reports for Duty

Sorry lady, I don't think those shock troops are allowed under tournament rules.

awesome :D The character design in this game is... interesting ;)

The artwork style of this game is freaking amazing!

Posted by Afroman269

You can see her panties...sold.

Posted by whiskyfury

Awesome art direction.

Posted by craigbo180

Is it just me or does the game look noticeably better than the last time they released a trailer? Also I will definitely get this game as it is on XBLA and it is a fighting game and I know the guy I play fighting games with will absolutely love this game, I am not crazy about the art style but I do think it is visually striking.

Posted by Bravestar

awful art. maybe I'm too old for a million pantyshots and jiggletits to amaze me.

Posted by Joey2683

Looks great. Hit sounds seem too weak. Air juggles are crazy, not in a good way. Doesn't seem like my type of fighting game.

Posted by Eujin

I believe the design doc specifically stated "Every attack that involves moving an appendage must cause a panty shot". Which is an interesting direction to go.

Regardless, it looks pretty fun to play based off the combos and attacks they're showing.

i cant take this seriously

I mean, fighting games are pretty fucking dumb, but

Pantyshots and jiggle tits

Pantyshots everywhere

Posted by PerfidiousSinn

She looks just like Mitsuru from Persona 3.

Posted by Ravidrath

@craigbo180: It's not just you - the last character was released before E3, so we've had time to improve a lot of non-gameplay things, like the backgrounds and visual effects.

Posted by bybeach

She moves too quick, I can't see up her dress.

Posted by JackSukeru

Backgrounds look really nice, at least.

Posted by Ghost_Cat

Art keeps looking better and better.

Posted by craigbo180

@Ravidrath: Thanks for replying, at least I know I'm not going crazy then. Can't wait until I can actually play the game for myself!

Posted by TigerDX

Seems like the most interesting character so far. I like the communication with NPCs, like instructing an off-screen dude to "take the shot" as a super-move. I like the differentiation in methods that a character uses to attack.

Posted by kollay

The impact noise... man... it needs work.

Posted by Echo

Looking pretty interesting. Definitely getting a Darkstalkers/Power Instinct vibe. Looking forward to seeing how it turns out!

Posted by Creamypies

Well I saw up her skirt...

Posted by jimmdogg

So is she the first/only character without the crazy hair demon thing?

Posted by Dtat

OH MY GOD YOU SEE UP HER SKIRT!

I either love this game like a horny 13 year old, or hate it for destroying the moral fabric of society!

Posted by TheYear20XX

Loving the (what I assume to be) fighting game references in this. The BB Hood super, Ryu's mule kick...I'm really looking forward to this.

Posted by MeatSim

You would think this game was made in Japan but it's not.

I dunno what to say anymore man... The art is deviantarts-good western wannabe eastern, but the silhouettes are a mess. It looks much closer to Marvel vs Capcom than any traditional fighter; Is that the point? That what you want is lots of whizbang feedback for every button push and a modicum of skill?

I dunno. Doesn't appeal to me in the slightest.

Edited by HerbieBug

Support Skullgirls!  It's a unique game made by people who know what they're doing and care quite a lot about making it worthwhile.

The system is influenced in part by MvC2, yes, although not in the way you've construed it to be.  If you like fighting games at all I urge you to do a bit more research on what this game is about.

I thought they were just going to tease upskirts, but then they went all the way. Not classy.

Posted by Eeptog

i guess the people complaining about crotch shots have never played any fighting game ever.

Posted by HerbieBug

You know, as much as I'd like to admonish every single of one of you who insist on making a big deal over a pair of underwear, I know enough about marketing to realize that the more this topic gets bandied about the more people will talk about the game and the better it will sell.  :D

Posted by ComradeCrash

I love that she gets her troops to take bullets for her. lol

Posted by Mesoian

Still digging this game. I'm sad it got delayed but I'm hopeful that the advantages to the 2012 release date will help things be nice and balanced on the back end. Plus this gets it out of the way of Ultimate MvsC3 and Persona: UMA, two games I will be spending quite a bit of time with.

And seriously, all the people complaining about panty shots, grow up. This game is doing everything it needs to do and more in an absolutely brilliant fashion. I wish Capcom would take a lesson from these guys.

Posted by Ravidrath

@kollay: It's already been improved a lot since we recorded footage for this trailer.

http://www.youtube.com/skullgirlsgame

Our last two Friday Night Fights have the improved hit sounds. They're still not final, but they're coming along.

Posted by kollay
@Ravidrath Was just an observation. Good to hear that that wasn't final, I mean aside from VO the impact noise is what makes up most of what players hear.
Posted by spilledmilkfactory

Not the biggest fan of fighting games, but I'll probably check this out anyway just cuz it's so gorgeous

Posted by McShank

The ending with the soldier fist shaking to the other player while holding her made me want this game that much more. I am not a big Fighter fan but i do like the occasional multi and this will help make having friends over alot better when we are drunk and tired of SSF4 and Smash bros.. can only handle so much falcon punch and shoryukens.

I think this opinion is more childish than you think, because cheesecake really doesn't seem to be the focus of the game from my perspective. Maybe at a glance, but look a little deeper.

Red-haired video game ladies 4lyfe.

Posted by ArcLyte

really don't have high hopes for this one.

Posted by Humanity

A didn't see up her skirt as much as everyone else did apparently can someone go ahead and post some zoomed in screencaps, thanks, this is important to me..

Posted by Xcessive

I don't normally like these 'anime' type fighters a lot, I'm more of a SF kinda guy, hence the Q avatar.

However.. this looks pretty sick. Hopefully it has a nice flowing combo engine and responsive movement.

Just looks a little stiff, will be keeping an eye on this one fo shor.

Posted by phrosnite

Dunno... from the videos I've seen it looks like all characters have the same combo... kind of male and boring to watch.

Posted by Krendrayven

A girl I know was hired to do clean-up art for this game! I must say, that it is a pretty bitchin' art style.

doesn't seem to be the focus of the game, but it sure as hell is the focus of the art style. you can't look any deeper, because you can already see everything.

The way I see it, if cheesecake was "the point", they would go a lot more over the top with it. Like, look at something like Oneechanbara. THAT'S a game about boobs and panty shots and being as pandering as humanly possible. That is the only reason that game exists, because nothing else about it stands up to scrutiny.

Skullgirls, on the other hand, while definitely skewing towards some "sexy" designs, simply stops there. This is not like a lightswitch that you flip on and off where something is either totally porn-y or totally not. Skullgirls isn't going as far as it could. If it was trying to be tasteless, characters like Peacock wouldn't exist.

You might as well complain that Street Fighter is pandering because Cammy's leotard is skin tight.

Posted by Bravestar

@BlazeHedgehog: I don't care for the deeper nuances of overly sexist designs and quite franky, it creeps me out. so does your analysis of "sexy" designs.

I don't see how skullgirls could go further with that than they do, but I also don't want you to give me more examples. creepy

Posted by Bravestar

also LOL @ peacock being a sign of taste

Listing every character's breast measurements on their official skullgirls site is pretty tasteless actually. While the devs may be trying to create an original fighting game, the character artwork is still 100% male gaze pandering.

but um, keep up with the wacky cheesecake examples, I suppose.

That's a miniskirt if I've ever seen one.

Street Fighter is way more "anime" that Skullgirls, which is a mix of various artistic styles from both sides of the pond.

If you're curious about the combo engine and controls, rest easy: the game's lead dev is Mike Z. ("real soviet damage"), and if you check the various Skullgirls threads he's commented in on SRK, Dustloop, or even Sirlin.Net, you'll see this game's foundations are extremely solid.

You are 100% correct, good sir, but you're also trying to justify taste and artistic direction to someone who, given his posts, is clearly an idiot. Not that I don't appreciate an attempt to place pearls before swine; just pick your battles to avoid wasting time, is all.

What he means by 'anime' is character design appealing to pathetic anime fans who watch anime because they are lonely and like to look at cute girls doing cute things. (like skullgirls)

Hope this helps.
