Just goes to show don't judge a product by its stupid name. That thing seems really useful and awesome, providing it gets the game support. I'd buy it.

@yukoasho You cannot, unless the game is patched. There are list of games compatible with Vita TV on SCEJ website. However, all of the upcoming Vita games are most likely going to have an option to use only buttons so they will be playable with Vita TV.

OK, now I have to ask... How do you use touch features on VITA games like Uncharted: Golden Abyss?

So I can put a PS4 in my living room, put this in my bedroom, and play PS4 and vita games on both TVs? Pretty badass!

They need a bundle with the PS4, bring it up to the cost of the XB1

This is almost perfect for me, depending on how quick it load things - which is now the most important console feature to me. I'm not keen on the memory card bullshit and may as well get a ps4 which has enough storage for games, which also will likely be on average far higher in quality (in my mind anyway). Yet, I am so freaking sick of load times and waiting for the dashboards/xmb's to load ads that if this thing loads instantly (or the new consoles do), I will be basing my purchasing decisions almost solely on that. When I turn a game console on I can't think of anything more important than getting me straight to the game screen. Signing-in to xbox/psn can happen in the background. Downloading ads can happen in the background. I can't remember for sure but I think Sony got this right on the PS3. Sony was also smart enough to not delete game updates so when someone starts their game it starts immediately.

This seems like a really smart product. There are lots of people that might like to occasionally play a casual game or watch a streamed movie. If it succeeds, it will expand the Vita market and publishers may be more likely to approve Vita game proposals from their studios. More games for Vita means more gamers buying the Vita handheld. Genius.

No, seriously, I just want an excuse because I'm getting one. I just need to tell myself I need it or whatever.

You can play PS4 games on a TV where your PS4 isn't plugged into it. That right there is enough.

Yeah, that sounds sweet, but the remote play feature will not be there at PS4's launch. And they haven't given a release date, but since it's apparently going to work with GaiKai and I live in Europe (where they haven't even discussed when GaiKai and all the online features of it will release), I'm thinking this won't happen in the next few years.

It's a good excuse, but I don't think it counts.

I don't understand why I'd want a crippled Vita/streaming thing that needs a DS3 and doubles as a more expensive Roku box. I...just...don't get it. This is a mystifying product, even weirder than the 2DS. What's Microsoft's entry into this weird product contest going to be? Maybe a cheap Zune-y tablet that is designed for smart glass and has a stereo-optic camera?

wow this thing, from a business perspective, is brilliant. Integrating all the Sony game devices like that, if get a PS4 I think this would be a definite second purchase; simply for the ability to stream the PS4 anywhere in the house

For remote play you need a PS3 or PS4 depending on which one you want to remote play.

So for the remote play would you need a tv with built in wifi? or would you need a vitatv for each set?

Almost 100% it would be a Vita TV per set. No sense in doing it through a TV's wifi since they can't control that unless they make a Vita branded TV (which could get real confusing real fast).

Alternatively you could move around the Vita TV and plug it into a different television. You could just do that with a PS4 too and save $100 if you only want that feature. It would be easier and less scary to move around a tiny deck of cards console with no moving parts, though.

Do we know if the Vita TV uses an infrastructure wifi (through router) or is it just ad-hoc (directly ps4 to vita tv). Ad hoc would mean they could better control the speeds of the transfer. I wonder how much of the PS4 remote play on the Vita TV is just a happy accident from the regular Vita remote play. That or Sony thought of everything.

edit: Just checked that compatible list. I didn't know Steins;Gate was on the vita. That's pretty awesome. Wish they would localize that "game".

editer: In a perfect world Sony would let people use the single USB to plug in a flash drive and use that as storage, but that's not likely to happen. I'm sure its only used for charging the controller and plugging a keyboard (for chat stuff) in and stuff like that.

Why does every depiction of people playing video games on TV make it look like a bunch of actors play acting playing video games? Which goofy moron holds a controller like that with a dumb grin on their face? I know Sony doesn't want to show a bunch of stone faced kids blankly staring into a screen, but there has to be better middle ground dopey teen with a smile 1, token black friend, and token white friend.

I'm more stoked for this than the PS4. I already have a good gaming PC, but this looks like the perfect system to play all the awesome indie games Sony has been snatching up.

My only half worry is vita port games like Need for Speed Most Wanted sometimes have very low resolutions. I think that game is like somethingx260p which will look like ass on a TV. Though it would be very silly to buy that version for TV play.

I could see myself getting Borderlands 2 vita and playing it on this if the resolution is close to the Vita's native.

This thing is super exciting to me and I may even import one if they don't announce a US date. Since the Vita itself is region free it would be cake to get it working in English anyhoo.

Its $150ish with a controller and an 8GB memory stick so its not too far off from a PS3 or a Vita proper, but I'm all aboard this anyhoo.

Also Sony is making some seriously sexy hardware lately. The Vita, the PS4, the Vita 2000, and now this all look awesome. The super slim PS3 looks a bit cheap on the top, but doesn't look bad either.

I'm kind of conflicted on this. It seems like a cool idea, but I don't know if I would be ready to throw another $100 down on top of what I already paid for my vita. What quality will the upscaled video be? And what about the ps4 streaming quality and range?

Also why would Sony release this in November in Japan when they aren't even launching the ps4 until February?

So many questions Sony. I'm definitely intrigued but don't think I'm ready to drink that sweet, sweet kool-aid just yet.

So this plays Vita games, PSP games? It will allow me to play my PS4 that is in another room?

One thing I am not clear on... will I be able to plug a hard drive in the back USB port and store my er.. "Ripped Blu-ray" MKV collection on it to play through the device? If so I'm 100% sold.

It's a kinda weird machine, I think. Doesn't this run the risk that we'll be getting games that aren't particularly suited for the handheld Vita in the future, considering this doesn't seem to have any touch screens?

Wow. I definitely want one of these, at least to access some of those PS Plus games I've gotten for Vita, as well as P4 Golden.

Also, the white DualShock 3 is sexy. If I didn't already have two (black/blue) I'd get one. I already don't do any multiplayer on PS3 so...yeah.

Giant Bomb seems to be the only media outlet that recognizes this is an incredible alternative to Roku and Apple TV.

This is what I was thinking. Was going to get a Roku 3 but now I think I'm going to wait. If you can play co-op ps4 games through this thing (instead of split screen...2 tv's) it's a no brainer in my house. Maybe when its released in the US they'll bundle it with a Dual Shock 4.
