Splinter Cell: Blacklist Has Been Pushed to Summer, So Here's a New Trailer to Tide You Over

You are still not Michael Ironside, sir. And I'm just going to keep pointing that out until the end of time or Michael Ironside dies. Though I expect the latter may cause the former.

@xite: I remember when Patrick said the first thing he did in Doom 3 was install the Duct Tape mod, then when BFG comes along he's adamant that it's meant to be played gun or flashlight :P

I really liked Conviction (and I'm a fan of the series all the way back to the original Splinter Cell). Hopefully this game builds on the mechanics in Conviction somewhat.

The voice actor stuff is weird, but let's face it: the game won't sink or swim on that.

The animations appear to be like Conviction's so I really don't have an interest in it at all. Conviction's gameplay was somewhat justified by its story because Sam was on the run. Now he is obviously back working for the NSA/OGA so such ruthless and fast-paced playing styles shouldn't fit.

Also, no Ironside.

I own all four of 'em on the GameCube. Conviction and Blacklist do nothing for me though. Ubisoft is great at making something more generic over time.

Yeah put me in the "wants Ironside back" camp. Who doesn't love his gravelly voice? I remember Jeff not being all the amazed with him, but hey even Jeff can be wrong sometimes!

I really loved the co-op from Convinction, not so much the campaign...I just think it needed some more old school stealth aspects to it but I'm probably in the minority in that regard. Hearing Patrick and Jeff talk down about MGS and the first Splinter Cell on some podcast was like someone scratching a chalkboard to my ears.

edit: the multiplayer in Pandora's Tomorrow was also fucking nuts, I hope they do something like that again, too!

Also, how did they pick this new date?

So end of August?"

Hey Giant Bomb, if you didn't want to see Ironside replaced, you probably shouldn't have ratted him out for sounding drunk in Conviction.

Personally, I didn't think he sounded drunk. He's just old and old people slur their speech sometimes. Honeslty, he is too old and weathered to be voicing that character, especially since Sam is the Benjamin Button of video games. It just doesn't match. It never did for me, really. I think Ironside has a great, distinctive voice, but no one with a voice like that has the lung capacity to shimmy up a pipe. He needs to be voicing characters who are physical wrecks.

Halo 4 was a great game. But because of the changes made in it and reach, I didn't care as much about it. This could be the best splinter cell game for all I care. But not having Michael Ironside breaks the immersion. Its enough to cause me not to buy the game. Maybe for 4$ on a steam sale, but likely not even that. If Ironside was dead, I could fully understand. But hes actually acting. So hes most certainly not dead.

I do recall the jokes about the drunken-ness, though. I couldn't think of anything else when I played Conviction acouple months later.

OK, this is what I find FUBAR about this after following the story so far. I understand if Ubisoft wants to make a young guy the main character because Fisher was getting too old for this shit in Conviction. I also understand if they couldn't get/afford Ironside to voice Sam Fisher. But what is particularly crazy to me is that Conviction had a pretty good story about Sam Fisher and this new operative named Archer. Everything I have come to understand about Blacklist gives me the impression that all of that story has gone out the window and this is a reboot.

For example, I don't understand why the hell Fisher would ever join Third Echelon again after what happened in Conviction. It's like the writers knew this, but someone decided that it wouldn't be Splinter Cell without Sam Fisher working for Third Echelon and rewrote the whole thing. I enjoyed Conviction and if they are just going to abandon or rewrite parts of the crazy convoluted story that makes Splinter Cell what it is, I'M OUT.

Jeff made a joke about Ironside's lines being slurred and now it has become "Ironside was a drunk". Full text from the review:

"Sam Fisher himself, once again voiced byMichael Ironside, often sounds a little off. While some of that makes storyline sense--Fisher's meant to be a few years out of the game and mentally unstable due to the loss of his daughter, after all--some of his lines come off a little slurred, like someone was stashing a little wine in the voiceover booth."

This somehow has become "Michael Ironside was a drunk and that is why he isn't back."?

What the hell guys...

First off, "Dammit, Fisher, I'm pulling you out!"

Secondly, from everything they've shown, fucking Assassin's Creed 3 seems to have more stealth sequences than this game.

Stealth is simple, one trained guy against multiple trained guys equals a dead guy, I hope this is like Splinter Cell 1, 2 and 3, ultra stealth, no bullshit superman action. Keep Prince of Persia 3D for Assassin's Creed, Ubisoft. TABARNAK!

I don't think Sam will work for government again after what happened in conviction.

If they rewrite the story and say this dude in black list is some random apprentice or something Sam trained during his long ass military career.

At least, it'll make more sense and calm those dudes(including me) who think it's not Sam Fisher if it's not voiced by ironside

Does anyone really care about this game at this point? It's like when Rainbow 6 no longer was Rainbow six, when they discarded the planning stages... RUN, AIM, SHOOT, REPEAT! Also, no Michael Ironside, no sale...

I thought that the Vegas games were the best in the whole series. Before that, they kinda sucked. Super exited for Patriot. Also, Conivction was my favorite Splinter Cell game. Old Splinter Cell games are easy to review in one word:

BORING.

I played, and enjoyed both Vegas games. Along with the SC series. I just think too many developers are over simplifying games, and taking control away from the players. Creating an Hollywood action game / theme park rides. Comparing SC to R6 is like apples and oranges though. Also, it depends on your age, and when you played those games.

That's true. I'm 20 now, meaning I was 12 or 13 when I played Pandora Tomorrow, and when I finally got around to playing the older Rainbow Six games, they were already pretty outdated.

This game will mark the end for Splintercell and maybe then... Just then, will Ubisoft learn like hpw they learned with FC3 and AC2... Needs more stealth, needs more Ironside, needs multiplayer like part 2... Needs to be a huge AAA game like it once was on Xbox.
