With voice acting so crisp and clear, you'll swear they rerecorded it.

Excellent. Any opportunity to 'accidently' shoot Slippy is worthwhile imo.

Is it sad that the first thing I noticed differently about this game was that the logo looked different from back in the N64 days.  I guess I played that game way too much when I was 12 years old.

This is an atrocity. The voice acting in the N64 version is classic, and changing it is terrible. This alone would honestly make me never buy this game, but I wasn't planning on getting it anyways since I still have a working N64 copy.

Edit: I made a trailer using the original N64 audio for comparison's sake.

I'm really excited for this. Not sure if they re-recorded the audio or not, they may have had raw audio files from back in the day that had to be downgraded for the 64 that they used now. They sound super identical though in terms of inflection that I would be surprised if they were entirely re-recorded. Either way, I'm buying it.

It's funny how everyone seems to like when they do these HD remakes of things (or in this case 3D) in which they alter and improve not only the graphics but often small facets of the gameplay but if you potentially re-record some audio on it, then you've committed one of the highest forms of treason.

Why make a new one when we'll make just as much money remaking an old one?

It looks fun but I'm not sure how I feel if it is just a straight remake with no extra features. It was a awesome game back in the day but it only lasted about one or two hours and I've already played it many times through, not sure if I would play through it that much again and 40 is a lot to spend to play for two hours.

Hmmm, those Peppy samples sound different than I remember.  Even if they're not re-recorded they sound WAY different... enough to make me not even want to get it.  Just wouldn't be the same.

I refuse to support Nintendo in their endeavors of pretty much only re-releasing their old games. I loved Starfox 64 as a kid, and I wouldn't mind playing it again, but I've still got a the copy of the game and my N64; I can't fathom throwing down another $40 for this game, even as much as I like it. Although as time passes, it feels more and more unlikely, I really hope Nintendo puts out a new IP soon, if not a few. It's not that I don't like the roster of characters they have, or the games they make, but I'd really like to see something new and I guess I won't be buying any of their stuff until they do. It's fine that they do this as I'm sure many people have never played it before or don't still own their copy, but it's not for me. Also, in a weird way, I kind of like the original, robotic, voices more, but that's not really important.

I got OoT and loved it, but this remake is coming out too close to several top tier releases. This game won't be included in my fall budget.

It sounds almost exactly the same, assuming it hasn't just been cleaned up. I can't say there was anything particularly memorable about the voices in the original version anyway.

@GoodKn1ght: If the game was only one or two hours for you, you were playing it wrong. It's the kind of game where you play the levels and different paths repeatedly to hone your skils, earning medals and a higher score. It was pretty bold of them to make such an arcadey game for the N64, but the shortness of the game is why everyone is intimately familiar with a lot of the dialogue.

Star Fox 64 is my absolute favorite video game of all time. It was the first game where I really connected with the characters on screen, and their voices are ingrained in my head... why would they change the voices for the 3DS? They didn't change the sound at all for Ocarina, why not give Star Fox that same treatment? Peppy sounded so bored... WHY WOULD YOU CHANGE THE VOICES AND KEEP SLIPPY SOUNDING LIKE A GIRL? I would be all for this if they got the Madworld guy to be Slippy's voice actor.

@BisonHero: I know...maybe I wasn't clear. It's one or two hours a playthrough and yes their are multiple paths but the core gameplay is you sit down, get to venom and kill andross, rinse and repeat. What I'm saying is that people like you and I have down that hundreds of times and, at least myself, I'm not sure if I will be able to invest that amount of time because I will have seen everything, I will have already honed my skill, and have memorized the dialog. As it is I bought it again on the wii shop, play it every once in a while but I've dissected that game down to a science so it's not the same anymore. I was merely saying I hope they add a little extra for people like me who have played this game so many times that pretty graphics just don't cut it in throwing down 40 bucks.

Looks like a good time. I still wish it were original, but I've never played more than the first few levels so it'll probably worthwhile.

You're... joking, right? As a short, highly replayable game and one of the few N64 games with full voice acting, in a time when full voice acting was still rare, pretty much every line from this game is burned into the collective gaming consciousness.

Only heard the voice changes on one of Slippy's lines and apparantly Peppy got a new accent. Not all of those voices were changed though.

I really like the improved visuals!  Looking forward to this one.

Now, though it's a bit odd to hear slightly different voices for those classic lines, "Do a Barrel Roll!" is still close enough to the original to make the entire game a great success. ;)

At first I thought you were insane.  Then I listened to your youtube video.  You know, you're right, the new voices are truly horrible in comparison.  That's quite a lot to go through to prove a point.  But prove it you did.

Am I the only person who still expects the "burburburburbur" instead of the voice acting? Oh well, too much SNES Star Fox was played when I was a kid.

@oroboros: It actually only took like half an hour since I already knew a site I could get all the sound-clips from the N64 game. I wanted to compare them side by side to see if I was the crazy one. Atrocity is definitely an over-exaggeration on my part, but as someone who can quote that entire game by heart I can't imagine playing it without the original voice-overs.

To be honest, I always played it with the Lylat speak. I just really don't see this as a big deal.
