This game is very buggy Brad, hence why there were so many ships that you couldn't beat. It scaled the difficulty up because you entered the system with 4 party members. Even if they aren't present, it will scale it up. So next time if you're done with a party leave the group.
I found this out the hard way when we had a social party going on with a few GB members, and all of us were getting raped on our personal quests. We ended up sticking to Fleet chat because the game is just too Beta-y. :-(

I wish they would play more MMORPGs and do these mini-series. Even if they aren't completely new, just give it a run. I could care less about the game, just that we have these kinds of videos. :D

Ryan seems to always work best as a sit-in guest.  He pops in, criticizes everything, and then the next episode he's gone. Every multi-part series without Ryan in it should have a 'special guest Ryan' episode. It's hilarious.

The ambassador mission is like the one in kei. But, in that one you had 4 guys helping you. I can't finish kei because I am doing it alone. Nobody loves me ;(

Great work guys. You just have to keep doing these kind of missions for now.

I think what makes this so amazing is the hundreds of references they all make. Especially because I get all of them. This definitely does make me want to obtain a copy once this comes out, though.

Brad, if you hold both mouse buttons down to fly you can turn much easier.  I find that I can turn my thrusters down to about 50% and still maneuver just fine.

Another thing to note Brad, if you press "C" on ground you enter a combat stance that makes you do more damage but move a little slower.  It brings the camera in over your shoulder.

I think the difficulty in the game is still a  little jenky. Since you were teamed with 4 other guys, they jacked up the difficulty on that mission you ran into the klingons.

The reason why you had so much trouble with the Ambassador quest was because encounters will scale depending on how many people are in your party, REGARDLESS OF HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE ACTUALLY AT THE PLANET WITH YOU. So if you are in a party of 5, but you are the only one on-site for the battle, the enemies will be scaled as if your entire party is present with you. Since you warped in with 4 other people on your team, you were attempting to solo enemies which were meant for a full party of 5.

Next time, while you are still in sector space (ie. the Tron area), make sure you are not on a team, and re-enter the area. That particular quest is definitely solo-able.

Brad says: "I've got the patrol missions, but I want to find something more interesting."
Ryan then says: "Yeah, let's get some ground missions."

And these are two of several reasons I'm finding STO a bit boring.  The amount of space combat there is is just too much, and most of the missions seem to be the patrols.

Yesterday whilst playing, I saw a ship in the game named "U.S.S. GB Endurance Run". Gold star to whoever that was. I now feel like this series is actually teaching me more about Star Trek in general than STO.

The reason there were so many Klingons was because you were in a large team originally. The game scaled to the team engagement.

Some tips for you cool kids:

1. Quests won't give you any money.  Once you have enough vendor trash, sell it, and you'll have enough Energy Credits to buy some new gear.
2. You have to equip items for use on the ground and on your ship; things like the hypos for healing, or a "shield battery" for restoring power to your ship's shields.
3. Most of the missions are, in fact, space missions, which sucks.
4. Press "U" to open your character sheet.

I don't know where Brad got his info but in MY experiance you actually DO turn faster if you lower your throttle.  Also i think boosting power to Auxilery is supposed to boost your turning speed.

With any luck there will be more ground in the main game that just hasn't been revealed yet.  Who knows. MMO games are kind of spastic on story lines...loads of text for quests & story info, semi-static faces to talk to, reading quests next to them, followed by shooting stuff.

Can't get enough of Ryan's gentle bullying of Brad. He really knows how to keep the boring exploration interesting.

If you've followed the 'crew' since the Gamespot days, you'll notice that Ryan has really honed his hosting skills over the years. Next time you listen to a Bombcast, pay attention to how he moves it along while remaining entertaining.

I would hope so.  I've done three full patrols (12 systems) and most of the missions were space-based.  In fact, let me tell you what two of the planetary missions involved:

1. Beaming down, talking to five NPCs, and leaving.
2. Beaming down, scanning four mysterious objects, and leaving.

Zero combat in either.

is starting to annoy me. It's definitely fun in lower doses but these long videos don't do him any favors in my eyes, he should keep the viewer in mind during these long ones.

I could care less how you wanna play Brad.  I'm just glad to have found myself laughing audibly throughout the video.  Definately thankful for the referencial back and forth between Ryan and Dave.  Kind of a shame that the game's turning into a grind but that's MMOs for ya.  Think what you will of me but after seeing all the series, I've found myself to be more of a Voyager fan, there I said it.  Keep up the great work and keep making me laugh dudes.

Yeah, I'm getting a bit annoyed at how MMOs feel the need to dumb it all down in the early levels.  They need to give the game players some credit that we can figure out how to scan something, not have a full blown "mission" based on scanning something. LOL.  These dummy missions are merely fluff & I hope they don't exist outside of the beta.  I was thinking of getting a lifetime subscription but the game looks like it might not hold my interest for 3 months let alone years & years.  I still have hope they will grow the game though & that the beta is just introductory fare to give you an idea of game play.

MMO TIP: do not enter a quest area when you have like ten goddamn people in your party and attempt to solo it.

They don't read the quest and go "damn, i don't know where to go".

Most of Star Trek Online requires you to both read the quest, make note of the sectors and galaxies and look at the galaxy map and figure out where you need to go.

They really should just leave the damn group and go alone for a while. It works greatly and avoid stupid mistakes like "omg, i joined a instance with 5 people and i can't solo it myself!"

Like all these other people are saying you need to drop the party if your going to solo some missions. You went into the Ambassador mission with a 4 person party, but only you were present at first. I did that mission and it auto-matched me with 2 other dudes doing that mission and things went fine.

One of the things I do not like about STO is that I appreciate the auto-party stuff, but when you go back to sector space after being auto-matched into a party, especially after finishing an episode, it should split the party. It is too confusing, especially for new players, that it keeps the party together. Most likely everyone is going to go their separate ways after the mission and then start trying to solo content that has been auto-matched for their previous party size.

Not to mention once you have been auto-matched into a party it doesn't auto-match you again. If it auto-matched you for your party, it should auto-match you again any time you enter the start of a new mission.
