Dave's totally right about Picard just being kind of a wimp. Basically every other Captain of a Star Trek series after TNG had to go through way tougher shit than Picard. Archer had to go on a horrible season-long revenge quest against people who decimated a part of Earth, Janeway had to lead her crew home stranded 75,000 light years away, Sisko had to lead Federation forces in the most deadly war the Alpha Quadrant ever faced. TNG is lightweight Trek that, like Picard, is only "great" in a vacuum.

Looks very interesting, it is like you spend ages before hand learning the HCI for the game. I might even consider this as long as it isn't like WOW in a lot of ways.

All disruptor, plasma and pulse phaser cannons are forward firing only, you cannot put them in the aft.

These episodes are making me marginally interested in the Star Trek universe, which I never expected. Onward, U.S.S. Duder!

lol, light speed  and parsec are actually speed, and distance units used in physics.

One question, how do you obtain the "badge of exploration"? I tried to 
buy items at the center hall of Earth spacedock, but the "currency" used 
to purchase them is different, and I have no idea how to get them.

You've got missions waiting Brad. Your hail starfleet icon with have a glowing border when somebody there has something to do. Make sure you click every dialogue option when talkin to those guys, as quests aren't highlighted in the menu.

 The chat box ~ 22 mins in is pretty funny.

So far it looks interesting enough to me to put down my $240 & become a Lifer.  I'm with some a previous poster that stated it would be useful if there were more puzzles. The various Trek tv shows usually had some odd puzzles they had to work out.  They should allow you to choose good, evil, or neutral consequences, or something along those lines.  Probably things like these will show up on in the released version, therefore hedging my bet & becoming a Lifer seems like a sound strategy.

Sort of scared to watch this, because it can only go downhill in my mind.  During yesterday's episode Brad seemed as fatigued with the repeated space missions as I was at that point in the game.

I like the premise but, it's a little too combat driven. I would love it if there were more meandering exploratory missions, tricky sciencey puzzles and the ability to traverse the entire ship. I think a resource allocated tech tree, where advances in your ships technology would hinge on researching it would be great  as opposed to encountering random drops in space and buying stuff at starbases even though the federation doesn't use money. It's kind of ridiculous to watch federation starships firing klingon and romulon weapons.

I firmly believe that you can either be a Wars or a Trek fan, but never both, and I personally side with Star Wars (but fuck Lucas, EU rules). Now onto the parsec issue...
 
The Kessel Run is an extremely dangerous route through an area of space that has a variable minefield of black holes. Ships can get through it, but to do it safely you need to give the black holes a wide berth. The standard Kessel Run distance run by smugglers was around 20 parsecs. By bragging that he made it in "less than 12," Han was showing off just how fearless and badass a pilot he was by skirting the edges of the black holes.

Watching the space battles kinda makes me wanna go back and play Star Trek Legacy.

I think it's much more fun when they go with real people, just use the chat box to make sure they are coming with you, there is nothing wrong with talking while you record a video, we will enjoy it anyway.

No worries there, TOR is aiming for a Spring 2011 release window.

Really cool way to show of the game, hopefully the game will do well and it won't have any competition from The Old Republic this year. I think there should be more then just one mmo ruling them all, I'm just haveing a hard time seeing Star Trek doing so. Hopefully the hardcore fans of the series will prove me wrong. I just think there is a bigger chance that Old Republic will be the true contender against WoW when it comes to userbase.
 
(Hope GB will do the samething with the SWTOR, I'm probably not gonna have a good enough pc when the beta launch)

It has it's off moments but the space combat can be really fun when it works well. Starbase 24 in particular is a great quest, you basically go in with a bunch of people and waste some Klingons on a large scale. "
