I feel the same way.  It probably doesn't help that I don't give a fuck about Star Trek.

I just play the video and then open a different tab and browse the internet. For all intents and purposes, I treat this as a podcast.

A parsec is a unit of length. So when they're talking about parsecs in Star Wars they're not really talking about speed, even though it kind of sounds that way. If you have a ship that can figure out a route that is the fewest parsecs, like the Millennium Falcon, then it is possible to arrive at a destination sooner then another ship even if both ships were traveling at the speed of light.

I think that's correct. I'm sure there's a bigger nerd then me that could explain it better.

And Star Trek has a more fleshed out universe than Star Wars because it is a television series. Star Wars only had 3 (or 6, I guess) 2 hour movies. They don't have time to explain how the shields work.

you can pick up mission by hailing starfleet.  if they have mission, theres a symbol that looks like a blue box next to their name.

Thats certainly what Lucas claims these days. Personally I just think he made a mistake in the 70s and is trying to explain it away.

@Dethfish77: A hojillion Star Wars novels, comics, RPG supplements and technical manuals would disagree with you.

PS. Wedge Antilles solos the Enterprise and a Borg Cube at the same time. If Kettch was with him, the entire Star Trek universe would implode.

Another thing you may not know: If you hit P, you'll get a full list of all your abilities.  This includes "Transwarp," which immediately transports you to the Earth Starbase, but it has a 30 minute cooldown.  Useful if you want to quickly do some shopping or whatever.  You still have to fly back, though.

I've also experienced that constant hail bug.  So super annoying.  Different mission, though.

On the whole star wars numbers thing

A parsec is a defined length of length equal to about 3.26 lightyears
this is a real length astrophysicists use its not an invention of the star wars universe

The problem that happened in Star Wars is one of the writers (or Lucas?) thought a lightyear was a measure of time, and a parsec is 3.26 light years.

Some of the ships don't have shields in Star Wars because they've obviously not a free or easy to apply commodity.  In Tie Fighter the most basic tie fighters don't have shields because the empire doesn't think those pilots are worth protecting.

Even though it's hard to listen to two people talk about random shit unrelated to what's going on on-screen, watching people play an MMO is rough, so something has to be there to keep you watching.  You could watch me play the game for 3 hours, you'd see a lot more of the game, but I doubt you'd be entertained - or awake.

And Brad really needs to go to Starbase 24, it's a fleet action with dozens of ships fighting.

yes...Yes...YES!!!!  Can't wait to get home & get my viewing fix on. Then I'm gonna go play STO Beta. I put 2 hours into it so far, so I'm only 3 hours behind the chaps.  Overall, it's not a bad game.  The space combat was a lot of fun. Ground combat was alright but the rubber-banding in the beta made it painful everywhere.  I may get the Lifetime sub just for the hell of it since I usually spend exorbitant amounts of money on MMOs & never really play them long enough to justify paying for it (spent around $575 on CoH/V, around 3 years of playing it off & on since 2004).

@Diamond: I was saying more that the shields in Star Wars aren't consistant. While you're definitely right that TIE Fighters do not have them, it's hit or miss whether or not the Rebellions have them. I don't mean per ship, I just mean a lot of times it looks like ships that should have them don't.

@basshero: 10 years ago I would have said I was a bigger Star Wars fan, but I can't really think of anything I've enjoyed in that universe that has come out in the last decade. It seems like the brand is getting ruined, where Star Trek is at least consistently above-mediocre. I'd take the original Star Wars trilogy over anything this side of Rollerball or Network. ;-)

they really need to hire some more ppl to do the janitor work, so the Duders can sit and play games all day long - while we can watch them. I would never touch an MMO but enjoy me these Episodes just like I would enjoy a regular movie! Awesome.

Also Kirk and Odo, FTW!

There's a long video of Shatner on google/youtube talking about his early days on radio/tv - very interesting for those of you, who care about the history of television/movies. Also another one with Nimoy and Shatner.

Brad you need to level up your guy, and you need to level your Bridge Crew. Also you can purchase a fourth Bridge Crew member to round out your Away team. You can set things up so that your Bridge Crew will replace the normal security complement on away missions. You can buy better gear like armor on the Starbase by selling some of that stuff in your inventory. Stuff in your inventory can be sold while onboard your ship by using the Replicators, or to any Starbase vendor. By the way you need to select that Skills Trainer quest just to get it out of the way.
Agreed! this would help you a ton brad, get some cool armor!

The more I see of this the more I'm convinced it's not worth my time. One of your quests is talk to some people then answer some obvious yes or no questions about what you just read? Seriously? Even Jeff seems really underwhelmed.

It has it's off moments but the space combat can be really fun when it works well. Starbase 24 in particular is a great quest, you basically go in with a bunch of people and waste some Klingons on a large scale.
