Shit yes! Looks like Starbreeze has finally worked out the kinks they usually have in their shooters while continuing to have the same deep atmosphere, characters, and stories that they have been known for. I'm also digging the visual aesthetic of this far more than DE:HR.

February can't come soon enough.

Not liking the huge UI blob thing in the lower middle, but other than that it looks fun.

well at least all the FPS games are going future/cyberpunk.  So that's good.  Not sure why this one is called Syndicate though.  I like the way it looks.  The outdoor bit at the end looked good.  I hope they work in some strategy and some branching in which missions you select and how you outfit your team with mods and gear.

I'm kind of with you, looks at little slow and clunky oddly, and the fire fights don't look that kinetic or impactful. But you know what, I've been wrong before.

this looks really boring.

the best part was when the robots showed up and i was like "o no, maybe this will require some actual strategy to get past." but nope, just press button and shoot with gun.

Well, looking at this feature I don't even get why it's called Syndicate at all. There's close to nothing in this video that in any refers back to the originals. Not talking about having to be the same type of game or anything like that, but they have barely taken anything from the old franchise into their new revision. If their only claim to the title is "corporations run the world and they have secret agents fighting covert wars" that could be a number of cyberpunk franchises.

Syndicate was a game about huge Corporations using their cyber enhanced agents to conducts operations against one another. The game was an isometric point and click shooter because at the time first person shooters weren't very refined yet. This seems to completely go with the same spirit except in a first person perspective which is more action oriented. You're still an agent, working for a "Syndicate" getting cool upgrades and murdering tons of people.

i hate to be a negative nancy, but adrenaline making bullets do more damage? i'll have to double check, but i don't think that makes any sense. plus, does your character have a limp or something? gun sway is weird. cool dead space ui, though.

I don't know if anyone's mentioned it yet, but for those that like co-op and the way the old Syndicate played, well the co-op (and/or multiplayer?) plays like the first. It'll have a little bit of old and new for fans alike.

@Humanity: But that setting is just "cyberpunk". Just look at Deus Ex, that exact same setting fits for that game too. It doesn't in any way define "Syndicate". Where's my persuadertron ? where's the pod cars ? where's the overly enhanced drone-like agents running around with a giant minigun ? Hell, even the gauss gun which is supposedly a throwback is absolutely nothing like the gauss gun from the originals.

Scripted event, walk down a corridor listening to some guy talk, scripted event, shoot three dudes in the most boring manner possible, forced stealth path where you have to hammer on the X button to open a grate and then listen to a recording, scripted event that makes your forced stealth sequence completely meaningless, crawl through a huge air duct into another scripted event, shoot some dudes in the exact same room you did before, hack a turret, activate a slow-down-time mechanic/detective vision, a gun with a red dot sight, enemies with shields, and another scripted event...

Man, you could make a drinking game of all the clichés present in this one level.

Seems pretty cool for an early level. Let's hope that the game gets a bit more strategic later as well as more difficult.

I wouldn't rave about it, but I don't get all the hate either. It's an early level. Of course the enemies are going to be fodder and the progression is going to be relatively straightforward (especially when it's a guided demo where the player knows exactly where everything is and where the enemies will enter from). I'll remain cautiously optimistic.

My thoughts exactly. This really felt a lot to me like a Deus Ex copy, while the old Syndicate was something different. Yes, set in a cyber punk setting, but as you say, so much more. But what do you expect from EA?

all of this looks really cool but where's the challenge? Looks like you have way too many abilities at your disposal, and it doesn't seem like there's anything on the enemies side to balance that out. a big problem this generation. games aren't about the challenge anymore, but it does look cool.

This is way more appealing to me than DE: HR for whatever reason. Though being able to hack anything in 2 seconds from across the room seems weird.

This game looks really good. Is it a straight up FPS or is it an RPG-ish game like Deus Ex? I would prefer the straight forward shooter myself.

I don't care, it's being developed by Starbreeze so I'll wait until near release, take a look, and I'll probably discover I like it just like I did with Riddick and with The Darkness.

This pretty much seems like Deus Ex just more focusing on combat then anything else,my only problem is that the player seems a bit overpowered plus hacking seems a bit to easy from this video, only hoping the AI will make up for it but i doubt it.

You ARE an overly enhanced agent. You HAVE the persuadertron. I'm willing to bet there will be a minigun weapon.

Egg shaped cars? Is that really what defines Syndicate? Really? Egg shaped cars is a staple of Syndicate?

Yes this is a cyberpunk game, just like the original Syndicate was. They're wearing trenchcoats, its in the future, they're working for corporations, they have chips and implants in them - how ELSE did Syndicate distinguish itself from other cyberpunk games? By having egg shaped cars? You upgraded the exoskeleton of your agent in three different tiers. Here there will be an upgrade tree.

You can achieve way more unique situations and player interactions in a FPS environment than a RTS overhead view.

I really don't like how the hacking is made so easy in this and how items and objects are highlighted in the game, but I guess that generally speaking, it has potential. I need to see more of it.

Guess we're gonna have to agree to disagree, and no it's not all about egg-shaped cars :P All I can say is that if I had seen this video without any title or mention of Syndicate I would've never guessed there was any connection. I have no issue with them making it an FPS, but if you're gonna re-make a game it should at least have some kind of resemblance.

I just don't get it - how does it NOT resemble Syndicate in terms of setting?? Syndicate had augmented doods in trenchcoats shooting shit up and this game has the exact same thing - how is it different? I can respect your opinion sure, but I don't get how you see this great divide??

@Humanity: One is a third person action strategy game, the other one a first person shooter. There's your divide right there. It's not the same genre. They made Syndicate Wars, no reason not to improve on that and keep it third person strategy oriented. That would keep the spirit of Syndicate. Way too many FPS-games as it is already and not nearly enough third person ones. In my opinion of course. Shame they had to brand this FPS with Syndicate, frankly I'd rather remember Syndicate as it was then have this. But I'm a crazy nostalgic so... :)

I don't think anyone has mentioned it, but I am at least 95% sure that the voice actor for your partner at the beginning of the game is Michael Wincott, who is known for his role as many bad guys in movies like The Crow or Along Came A Spider.

Those guns sound great. Loud as fuck, like they mean business.

If a lot of the systems aren't just one-off things, like freezing the glass to shatter it, and can be used to do branching paths through a level, then that's awesome. I hope the combat is faster moving, too.

I'm gonna have to agree with humanity in this one, i also respect the opinion of others but dont see how people say it doesnt resemble Syndicate. and i also agree augmented doods in trenchcoats shooting shit up does describe syndicate for sure, as well as the "cyber-punk" setting as does the whole rival corperation thing too.. it seriously couldnt get any more Syndicate other than of course using a isometric perspective.

@the_r0n1n_named_47: I suggest you go check out the intros to the old Syndicates on youtube. The BIG difference between normal cyberpunk and Syndicate is that the agents aren't some super-enhanced covert specialist or anything like that. They are mechanized, weaponized drone cyborgs. Just straight up killing machines that bring destruction. There's absolutely nothing subtle about the operations taking place in Syndicate.

hate to tell you this but i played the original Syndicate...well multiple versions all the way through back in the 90s and even now i still do on occassion i am as big a fan of the game as most of you here...trust me they are similar.... SIMILAR.. to the "drones" from the original... except one key thing... these ones seem to have more personality. it may be my opinion but i like both versions of the syndicate "drones"... now if i had to choosee which type i would prefer... yes i would prefer the FULLY decked out style of the original Syndicate drones. and as far as the whole "subtlety" thing, I am positive in both versions people already know whats goin down between the corperations.... they are after all world leaders
