Never played a second of Metro, but man, that is one slickly put-together trailer.

I liked the first game. I actually just finished it moments ago. The shooting didn't feel good though, and it was generally very hard - even on easy. Though the weapons and equipment were very cool and I realize you can play this game with a lot more skill and stealh, but I was only in for the story. It is a very well realized post-apocalyptic world.

Playing the first one now, and it's one of the best shooters I've ever played, and the tension is amazing, even though I get way too scared in the parts where you're alone.

Can't wait to play this.

Man the first one was good and all, but they really need to fix the AI for this one. At one point i was advancing on a bridge with no head nor hair of the enemy because they took cover and refused to come out....

Hey I'm totally for it even it its got a lot of the same stuff the first game had. They said they took a lot of criticisms and improved on a lot the stuff, so giving me a more improved Metro 2033 with a different campaign is worth it for me.

That Portishead cd is criminally underrated!  The other only recent cd I've heard that dodges categorization is Subtle's Exiting Arm.

(maybe I am going to far here, but I like to explain something. I hope, it's interesting for someone on GB)

I get the intention using (pop)music for game trailers.
I get the necessity for using music.

My very personal beef is: I associate the pop-songs already with 'something'.

We are in reverse Psychology territory here:

Using music that is 'cool' - attaching it to a movie-trailer, gameplay etc - sends the message: "The music is cool = our game/film is AS cool! We are even! This (our stuff) is exciting!"

That's marketing psychology beyond just "having music" in a trailer. There is an intention behind it, working. Intrusive. Infectious. For someone like me, even close to offensive.

The Gears of War + Adam Lambert's "Mad World" trailer works on the other hand. It is 'funny' for some, but more important than that, it captures the emotional intention of the song! It stays true to the material. That's why it 'worked'.

Portishead "Machine Gun" mixed with blurry promises of 'something' only leaves the song 'doing the work'. The game footage tells me nothing - the song speaks of a dark relationship, emotional dispair, very personal fears.

There is no room for a FPS... unless you give me something narrative, that carries a complementary message. Like a film negative to a positive.

(Again- sorry for going on about this. But hey, I get it. I have to swallow these things and live with them. Grumpy old man, that I am, haha. :)
The Gears of War + Adam Lambert's "Mad World" ??? Are you crazy? it was the Gary Jules version, an (awesome) cover of the (excellent) Tears for Fears song. Adam Lambert... sheesh

The Gears of War trailer was BULLSHIT too. It made out like that game had some kind of emotional story. The shit about your wife was pathetic, in fact 99% of Gears story is garbage. I really like those games, but they put very little effort into making it coherent.

In THAT instance a song was used to give the illusion that that game had a story when it had none. If anything it was taking a good songs credibility to give their own game some, when it had none. Yeah it won awards, but Shakespeare in Love won Best Picture at the Academy Awards too.

This is not a TRAILER, it's a TEASER. It's flavour. It's showing you the game's themes are tone, not it's gameplay. In a short space of time I understood so much about that world - the gas masks, the monsters, the small spaces. You CANNOT comment on Metro Last Light's story based on THIS.

It sounds more like your a Portishead fan who has a bee in their bonnet.

The editing seems somewhat reminiscens of early USSR propaganda movies. With very agressive cuts and a stark contrast between the material, to symbolise the stuggle of the people/classes.
Seems fitting enough if you consider the material :)

A pretty good teaser. And yeah, if they capture the 2033 feeling, this could be an excellent game.

I don't get what everyone's complaining about. I haven't played the first game and wasn't really interested, but this teaser/trailer does such a good job of creating mood that it's hooked me.

Of course, I am kind of the odd egg who values mood and story and the like in video games.

Lolling at the complainers that don't understand the concept of a teaser trailer. It's a game coming out in 2012 for god's sake, more substantial trailers generally get released a little closer to launch.

It's a very good teaser trailer as well. Looks like apocalyptic Russian art (Anton Grechk?) paired with Portishead, which is very cool.

Metro 2033 was a brilliant game with an excellent pace. Unfortunatly theres too many COD kids to appreciate a more old skool style shooter such as this. Set piece driven numbskulls. I bet they would scoff at Half-Life. Philistines.

Looks cool. I enjoyed 2033, but I got to a part where you had to hunt through some kind of train station for something to open a door, but you kept getting attacked by infinity re spawning things that would kill you in 1-2 hits and I just said fuck it. It was pitch black, I kept getting turned around, and I could never find the thing I needed to get past the point.

Other then that though, it was a really great game that more people need to play.

I dont expect and actual gameplay in game trailers. Especially early ones for a game. Hell so called gameplay trailers are cleaned up with no hud and perfectly smooth framerates taken from different angles in the game. If PR or whoever is trying to evoke something about the game I am fine with that.

Machine Gun - Portishead. One of my favourite songs and put to very good use here. I can't believe people are criticising the excellent choice in music because of a no doubt intentional psychological and emotional affect. That is precisely why the music was chosen.  The trailer works because of it.

Regardless of whether it's the sound or the visuals that make it so, the trailer works, and that's the goal of a trailer... to 'work'. The fact that it offends you personally is irrelevant.

@xAbleAssassinx: Agreed. Personally, I though the song choice, the limited visuals and the overall tone of this trailer was great. There's nothing typical about it ... hope the game is as good.
