Tales of Xillia Is Headed to the US This June

I hate to say it, but I have to echo all the comments about how awful the VA work is in this.

Vesperia and Abyss are two of my favorite modern JRPGs, and I've always loved what the Tales of series has tried to do with JRPG combat, but it's a shame that Namco is often so willing to be lazy/cheap about localization.

I heard really good things about it on the importers' grapevine, for whatever that's worth to anyone.

That trailer leads me to believe that maybe, just maybe, this is a JRPG.

I liked vesperia, it had a few moments that made we wince, but i enjoyed it enough to play through it 3 times.... the only thing i didn't like was the recolored enemies.

as for xillia. I am pumped up hardcore for it, i don't care, i want it and i want it hard. ive been a tales fan since my early teens. and i started the series BEFORE symphonia (not that that means anything but i see a lot of people saying theyre tales fans and they started with symphonia.)

I love the Tales franchise, but man, that trailer is terrible.

@branthog: Most of the games are in their own continuity, except for Destiny 2, Symphonia 2 and the recently released Xillia 2. They're stand-alone titles set in their own worlds, much like Final Fantasy, so you have nothing to lose story-wise if you jump right in at Xillia.

I don't know about that voicing acting or maybe it's just dialogue.

Twelve-year olds are going to love this.

@yummylee: If you actually only played an hour of Tales of Graces F, I guess that means you never made it past the point where you're kids. If that's so, and you still have the game, I suggest you try playing until you've gotten at least a little into the adult arc; that's where the combat gets the most interesting and carries the game like SomeJerk says. The dualizing system, though confusing at first, is also pretty addicting.

SomeJerk's also right about there being a good deal of stupidity in the game; the universe the game is set in is never explained in depth or particularly well, and the main villains are mostly just cheesy. That said, there's also plenty of charming stupidity in the skits and other interactions among the party members that makes the game worth playing too.

As for being uncertain if you only enjoyed Tales of Symphonia so much because you were younger, I obviously can't tell you to what degree that's true; but, having replayed the game a number of times myself, each at least a year apart, I've been able to see that the plot and characters are more generic than I initially thought, but they're also well-paced and well-written. Graces definitely doesn't reach the same levels Symphonia did, but it's reminiscent enough of the game's style to benefit some from nostalgia in addition to its own merits.

I'm hoping the VA in Xillia is closer to Vesperia than Graces. The acting in the trailer seems ok but I'll wait and judge it in full.

I should really look at things before I submit them haha. I meant Versperia might not have sold enough to warrant them making the extra effort to port Xillia. Agreed though, definitely a shame.

They had already ported the game to PS3 in Japan and had done a lot of translation work for the North American version on 360. People theorize that Namco was paid to keep it exclusive to 360 in NA, but who knows? You could be right. It's just a shame, is all.

Vesperia probably didn't sell well enough in the states for them to warrant the port to 360. Remember that porting from PS3 is no small task.

As a PS3 user, I would rather they had made it for both PS3 and 360, as well as re-releasing Vesperia for PS3 in North America. Exclusives are a terrible way to treat your customers.

In any case, I'm looking forward to playing Xillia.

Please come with a Japanese voice option. Don't wanna listen to dreadful English voice acting in my JRPG's.

Former Japanese resident here. Your country would be allergic, too, if Microsoft didn't make an effort to actually try and understand your business and employment culture. Don't think xenophobia and think more "bad business tactics."

Tales of Graces F that came out last year was a great game. It made me feel interested in a JRPG for the first time since Persona 4. Hope this will be great too.

Where tales of graces f looks like an upscaled wii game this looks actually pretty dam good and the combat looks great (not shown in this video tough)

Vesperia was one of my favorite games in the last few years and Grace was gameplay-wise

@phatmac: How deep did you get into the combat system? Graces F has some of the best combat out of any Tales game ever (IMO, only beaten by Rebirth and Destiny Remake). Or was it just the story itself that drove you away? I'm just curious as to why most people REALLY seem to hate JRPGs nowadays...considering I loved them back then, and still enjoy them now.

I'll give you Tales of Symphonia 2 though, I like that game, but it's definitely not most Tales fans cup of tea.

Tales of Vesperia is one of the games I enjoyed most this gen.

I'm excited for this game, don't get me wrong. But that was one heck of a baffling collection of clips.

Shouldn't they release 1 and 2 as a bundle by this point? I haven't even finished the final final boss of Grace f yet O_o

Ehhh... Vesperia is the last Tales I enjoyed. This doesn't do it for me in the same way.

I wish they would keep the japanese voices. Damn gaijins...

Holy crap. What happened to their localization team? This dialogue/writing is terrible. Maybe its just the VAs but damn. Considering the last completely new Tales game for next gen consoles was Vesperia which was great and actually had good voice actors. This is such a huge letdown.

Would be nice if the video player actually worked for once and I could watch this... off to youtube again I guess.

It's coming out in August not June. It's listed as 8/6 at retail.

Vesperia had good voice works. What happened?

ToGF was playable all the way thanks to the combat system BUT DEAR LORD WHAT LOT OF STUPID THERE WAS. After I finish the future arc it's going to be hard to keep it in my "collection" which is made up out of games I want to keep for the future. I'm definitely going to buy this because hey, JRPG, and Namco want to see numbers for their games.

Voices seem to have been recorded over several takes in different studios which is a shame, some sound great, some sound overly muffled and over-compressed, some were clearly done in a place that had no de-esser which is a huge thing for some voices, as an audio engineer and audiophile.. at least there's going to be less ARGH over the story in this.

I loved Vesparia, so maybe I'd like this too.Though, after Ni No kuni, which I'm still trying to finish, I don't know if I'll have another Jrpg in me for a while.

Not really. It LOOKS the best but the game itself is fairly bland as far as Tales go. Graces F had an incredibly fun battle system and Xillia is a major step back.

I haven't cracked open Xillia 2 yet but people whose opinions I trust have stated that it's far better than the first.

Yeah If I could get a Japanese dialogue option that would be great.
