Awesome stuff

Edited by AuthenticM

What ? I thought this game was already out.

Heh playing Tales of Abyss on 3ds as we speak. I can't wait!

Posted by metalsnakezero

Good on Namco for releasing Tales games again. At least the major ones.

Posted by Yummylee

I used to be such a huge fan of this series, but with every new one I played I only got more apathetic. Tales of Symphonia is one of my favourite games of all time; Tales of Vesperia I really enjoyed, but really couldn't stand a large majority of the characters: Tales of Graces f I played for like an hour and haven't gone back since; and now Xillia, which looks like the most generic thing ever for its genre, I doubt I'll even play at all. Least not for a while until I spot it on the cheap.

Hell, it's very possible that the only reason I'm so incredibly smitten with Symphonia is because I was playing it between the ages of 15-17 -- completed it, like, 4 times or something stupid like that.

Alex is nailing these subtitles today.

Edited by ThineOarlock

@yummylee: Supposedly Xillia is one of the best in the series

Another Mana Cannonesque thing?! Damnnit Tales!

My english teacher told me the proper way to write dates is day-month-year.

PS3 only, huh? One more reason my 360 collects dust.

August is the new June!

Love the Tales series.

I'm occasionally down for a rather by-the-books JRPG, and this looks like for of that. The animation looks better than past Tales games too which is good. Still gotta beat Graces though.

Posted by Brian333

Is that the same voice actress that played Lightening in FFXIII? That's a little distracting for someone who sunk a lot of time into that game.

The International Organization for Standardization politely disagrees: http://xkcd.com/1179/

PS. The dialogue in this trailer is TERRIBLE! Also hoping for a Matrix reference in that bolt-dodging scene.

Edited by paulunga

The dialogue sounds and looks about as good as something from Tales of Symphonia or Star Ocean 3. Why can't JRPGs evolve along with the rest of the industry?

MLA is standard for formal writing, so his teacher is correct... for a formal paper.

This is one of the worst cut trailers I've seen in a while.

You just wrote what I was gonna write.

As a young teenager, this series was my shit. I was sooooooooo into it and now, I can't stand this stuff.

Same here. Graces f was an awful, awful game. I also played Tales of Symphonia 2 for the Wii which was also dreadful.

Edited by JackSukeru

Of the Tales games I've played a little bit of Phantasia, Eternia and all of Symphonia.

I liked Symphonia a lot at the time, but I don't think I could get into this kind of heavy anime trope influenced storytelling any longer.

I watched some gameplay though and it looks alright.

Posted by Klaimore

Yeah If I could get a Japanese dialogue option that would be great.

@yummylee: Supposedly Xillia is one of the best in the series

Not really. It LOOKS the best but the game itself is fairly bland as far as Tales go. Graces F had an incredibly fun battle system and Xillia is a major step back.

I haven't cracked open Xillia 2 yet but people whose opinions I trust have stated that it's far better than the first.

I loved Vesparia, so maybe I'd like this too.Though, after Ni No kuni, which I'm still trying to finish, I don't know if I'll have another Jrpg in me for a while.

Posted by SomeJerk

ToGF was playable all the way thanks to the combat system BUT DEAR LORD WHAT LOT OF STUPID THERE WAS. After I finish the future arc it's going to be hard to keep it in my "collection" which is made up out of games I want to keep for the future. I'm definitely going to buy this because hey, JRPG, and Namco want to see numbers for their games.

Voices seem to have been recorded over several takes in different studios which is a shame, some sound great, some sound overly muffled and over-compressed, some were clearly done in a place that had no de-esser which is a huge thing for some voices, as an audio engineer and audiophile.. at least there's going to be less ARGH over the story in this.

Posted by Limiter31

Vesperia had good voice works. What happened?

Edited by ThineOarlock

@abara: I wont let you take my excitement away!

EDIT: :(

Edited by Ersanven

It's coming out in August not June. It's listed as 8/6 at retail.

Edited by Beck

Someone didnt' read the press release :)

But I'm glad it's actually coming. For quite some time I was in doubt.

Posted by darkest4

Would be nice if the video player actually worked for once and I could watch this... off to youtube again I guess.

Edited by Sombrero_Ninja

Holy crap. What happened to their localization team? This dialogue/writing is terrible. Maybe its just the VAs but damn. Considering the last completely new Tales game for next gen consoles was Vesperia which was great and actually had good voice actors. This is such a huge letdown.

Edited by clumsyninja1

I wish they would keep the japanese voices. Damn gaijins...

Posted by Shaanyboi

Ehhh... Vesperia is the last Tales I enjoyed. This doesn't do it for me in the same way.

Posted by gokaired

Shouldn't they release 1 and 2 as a bundle by this point? I haven't even finished the final final boss of Grace f yet O_o

Posted by Sparky_Buzzsaw

I'm excited for this game, don't get me wrong. But that was one heck of a baffling collection of clips.

I'm almost ashamed to admit it, but they had me at "Tales of..."

Tales of Vesperia is one of the games I enjoyed most this gen.

Posted by RuneseekerMireille

@phatmac: How deep did you get into the combat system? Graces F has some of the best combat out of any Tales game ever (IMO, only beaten by Rebirth and Destiny Remake). Or was it just the story itself that drove you away? I'm just curious as to why most people REALLY seem to hate JRPGs nowadays...considering I loved them back then, and still enjoy them now.

I'll give you Tales of Symphonia 2 though, I like that game, but it's definitely not most Tales fans cup of tea.

Posted by katsu044

Omg it's finally almost here *goes to pre-order*

Vesperia was one of my favorite games in the last few years and Grace was gameplay-wise

Edited by SatelliteOfLove

Now to see how bad the microbilkments for the extra duds will be. :P

Posted by kollay

Bout time. Glad to see this is more in the vein of Vesperia.

I don't even want to talk about Graces.

Edited by GnaTSoL

Are the Japanese allergic to the Xbox?

Posted by Assirra

About dam time, been waiting for over a year for this.

Where tales of graces f looks like an upscaled wii game this looks actually pretty dam good and the combat looks great (not shown in this video tough)

Posted by dagas

Tales of Graces F that came out last year was a great game. It made me feel interested in a JRPG for the first time since Persona 4. Hope this will be great too.

Please come with a Japanese voice option. Don't wanna listen to dreadful English voice acting in my JRPG's.

Posted by Doppelgamer

As a PS3 user, I would rather they had made it for both PS3 and 360, as well as re-releasing Vesperia for PS3 in North America. Exclusives are a terrible way to treat your customers.

In any case, I'm looking forward to playing Xillia.

Posted by hollitz

Vesperia probably didn't sell well enough in the states for them to warrant the port to 360. Remember that porting from PS3 is no small task.

That voice acting sounds pretty rough. Still want this game though.
