@deusoma: Ah... no, how games are made absolutely changes that.

Again, you are assuming that the time and money would go to working on anything else. That's not true, it would just disappear. Investment and workforce are built up for a game. No game, no workforce, no financing. Unfortunately you have plenty of examples of this out there recently, from LucasArts to High Moon.

High Moon particularly. If you thought "Man, I wish High Moon would stop working on that weird Deadpool game and make Transformers 3 instead" there are now a bunch of unemployed developers and an unrealized Transformers sequel out there to show exactly why that kind of thinking doesn't really work.

@noelveiga: I don't care one way or another about more Walking Dead, friend, but there's nothing fallacious about the fact that if they weren't working on Poker Night, they'd be working on literally anything else. Unless this game sprung fully formed from the head of Zeus, they're still investing time, effort, and money into this project, nothing about the process of how and when games get developed will change that. :P

I'm picking up the first one on steam now. Ryan and Brad do a Quick Look EX of the first Poker Night if anyone wants to see what this game will probably look like but with different characters.

I'll gladly (maybe) buy this for 1.25-2.50 on steam for some TF2 items, while skipping over the dialogue that starts to repeat itself after an hour of playing.

This is 100% confirmed.

To be fair, it's pretty disappointing. If you can't get Bruce Campbell, what's the point of having the Ash character at all? Seeing as how they're throwing any semblance of 'canon' or consistency, surely they could have found another random-ass character whose VA would have been available.

Also, Burn Notice video game should happen, even if it's a reskinned Alpha Protocol.

I'm disappointed as well, but there's a big differences between "If they couldn't get Campbell, why have Ash?" (which I understand, but I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt) and "WHY DIDN'T THEY GET BRUCE CAMPBELL TO PLAY ASH?!"

I'm pretty excited about this, I enjoyed the first one, the choice of characters are a little weird though. Why Brock and Ash? Not that I don't like the characters, but they seem out of place.

Given how underwhelmed I was by the first one, I wish this was an April Fool's Day prank, but sadly, I believe it must be otherwise. I'll admit it would help if I had more interest in poker, because the first one seemed to boil down to a series of deeply interesting personalities that you have to suffer through an incredibly boring activity in order to interact with.

Although with everyone else suggesting impossible characters for DLC, I'll throw my hat in and say Morgan Fairchild, Joe Piscopo, and Jonathan Frakes.

If you don't care about it, why are you sad that it exists? Surely if you don't intend to play it this doesn't affect you in any way, right?

I mean, you're not the worst offender on this, but the Internet kind of pisses me off when it generally takes the attitude of "if I don't like it, it shouldn't exist".

Don't even think about it that much dude. The internet really just likes to write words and phrases down to amuse itself. Even when they has no god damned idea what it's saying or why.

Let's get the license for Bruce Campbell's most beloved character and then fail to get Bruce Campbell to voice it because we trade in disappointment!

Eh, it could just be a temp voice - it certainly sounds like it.

@noelveiga: Oh, that's easy, friend. I wish this didn't exist not out of malice for the concept or for the people who do like it, but because if it didn't exist, then Telltale could be putting resources towards other projects, perhaps projects I would like a lot better.

Same reason I disliked the existence of StarCraft: Ghost right up until it finally got cancelled. All that time Blizzard spent on a Splinter Cell-style stealth game was time not being spent on StarCraft II. That's why it took until 2010 for that game to come out. :P

Ah, now this is a very interesting point. I like it because you hear it a lot, but it's entirely fallacious.

See, this presumes that games are financed and developed in the same way that they are purchased. That is, I have sixty bucks to buy a game, so if I buy game A I can't buy game B for sixty each.

That's... not quite how it works. Games or movies or music (it's a bit different for TV) are made to get the most return for the investment, and the investment is planned ahead of time. If a studio needs more people or time to make a game they'll ramp up to have it. If a studio doesn't make a game, they'll whittle down to be only as big as they need to be.

So this notion of "if they didn't make Poker Night 2 they'd be making more Walking Dead" is entirely untrue. If they weren't making this a bunch of them would be out of a job, because Walking Dead makes exactly as much money as it makes. Walking Dead is never going to be any bigger or better because Telltale isn't doing other stuff, because the amount of money they know (or at least they expect) the game will make doesn't change, the optimal point where the game is as good as it needs to be in time for launch to make the most money back is basically fixed.

That means that Telltale doesn't look at the number of people, money and time they have and think "what can we do with all this stuff?". It's the other way around. If anything, the money they make on Poker Night is going to the same bucket from which financing for Walking Dead is coming, so the more successful their other projects are, the more risks they are able to take (because they have deeper pockets in case they fail and need to live with the loss) and the more likely it is that they will engage in making the games you do like, as opposed to sending people home and calling it a day.

Do you see where I'm coming from? That's why I find it so annoying when people say these things. That's just not how it works at all.

Why make a sequel to a poker game?...they should have just added more characters as DLC to the original IMO. Poker is poker. It's not like this one will be a better version of poker. lol

Then they have to make all of the old characters talk to all of the new ones.

If you people think they would bother creating the character models and get original voice actors (mostly) for an April Fools joke, you're crazy.

How is this any crazier than all of those videos Valve makes for TF2? That one guy got Ellen McLain for his Portal proposal. Remember this?

It is super weird to include Ash in this just to use a sound-alike. I'm more inclined to think that maybe somebody out there's making a new Evil Dead game that hasn't been announced yet.

I guess this is legit? What a random group even in comparison to the first Poker Night.

Yeah, the first Poker Night at least made sense, if you knew enough about TellTale and what licenses they have access to (though the inclusion of Tycho was random).

But this lineup is bizarre, given that the premise of the game is "where do video game characters hang out when they get off work". So sure, Sam, Claptrap and GlaDOS make sense. But has there ever been a good Evil Dead game? And has there even been a Venture Bros. game?

You know, I'm also not sure if this is serious or not.

Part of me wants this to be serious, but in a DLC sort-of-way to the original Poker Night. But, what do I know? If this is real, then maybe it's easier to convince character licensing when you're including them in a brand new game instead of tacking them onto the old one.

That Brock model though... that's too good. Even if this whole video was just an April Fool's hoax, I want to believe that it's hinting at a possible future venture for Telltale. HAHAAAAA... get it??
