That Persona 5 Trailer

I think the main issue with investing time into an RPG is that the bursts I have at most is typically around 1 hour. Maybe 3 or 4 times a week. In a JRPG, that's usually long enough for a couple fights, and maybe a bit of story. In games where you can't save anywhere, it's even more limiting in how you use that time to play. On top of that, I tend to forget stories and what I was doing and for what reason if I don't play a game for say a week or so. Maybe it's because I'm an old man now and my memory sucks, iono. JRPGs are like, exactly the type of game I can't play because I never remember what the hell I was doing when I come back to it. Lately the only games I can really put time into are ones that are super light on story with save anywhere or short games like say DotA or whatever multiplayer game is popular at the moment.

What I've seen of Persona, I could easily spend all my time in a week either in a single dungeon, or just sitting around combining personas. That totally wouldn't work with my current gaming habits >,<

Even though that logo looks like something out of Gran Torismo, that protagonist is no Charlie Tunoku, and all I saw was basically a guy on a train ride, I'm super excited. I wonder what the gameplay's gonna be like though, has turn based combat survived into 2014? It seems unlikely.

@fobwashed If you ever do get around to it, the portable versions of both Persona 3 and Persona 4 are -THE- way to play those games. Honestly, if I wasn't so crazy hyped for this, I'd probably just wait for the inevitable portable port for vita/whatever Sony's handheld is in 5 years. The vita version of P4 is especially good due to the vita's good suspend/sleep mode.

Even if it takes years, I'd say Persona 4 is a game worth playing. It does a lot of really interesting things in terms of mechanics when compared to most JRPGs.

@fobwashed: Maybe it's not because you're old, but because these games are a total drag? I don't get it why people love them so much.

Every dungeon is the same thing, takes way too long and is intercut with a story that barely evolves. You can play for 50 hours and basically nothing happened.

I'm not saying they are bad games, but for me it felt like a total time sink every time I played it.

They missed the part where 2015 means "Late 2015, early 2016" for those in the western parts of the world.

That's my impression from the trailer as well. Or that we are all shackled to our phones. That or Personas are like digimon now.

Also, kind of a big deal this is coming out on PS4. The Persona team always seem to stick with the more established system at the time of their development. It was always weird that P4 came out on ps2.

I am almost positive they won't. They hate being asked to do it since they get asked so often (which is a little weird, since you would think that they would want to consider things that makes their user base happy), and so Jeff would have to be in a great mood to ever even think of doing this. But also Vinny isn't even there anymore, and this has to be a Jeff/Vinny thing for it to even matter.

An Endurance run seems unlikely given how burnt out they are, but I would still like to see some sort of series for Persona 5. Even if it's a monthly check-in or something, some sort of series would be cool.

There is a distinct lack of mysterious foxes in this trailer. Not buying.

Not a lot happened. I'm looking forward to actually seeing the game, rather than the animated parts. I'm not a fan of reveals, announcements and trailers getting more and more minor. Telltale had a recent countdown on Twitter to... a vague announcement that they're making a Game of Thrones game, which I feel like everyone has known for ages, because they told everyone that already.

While watching all I could hear in my head was Dokken, Breaking The Chains.

Can't wait to hear the soundtrack.

So I guess red being the thematic color this time around makes a bit more sense if there's also going to be fire, though the fire in this particular trailer was more blue than red (but the initial 'lights from above' were red before the fire appeared).

There's also a pretty clear theme of imprisonment and breaking free going on in these trailers, so I wouldn't be surprised if they really play up the 'wild card' aspect of the protagonist this time around and give him the ability to more directly change fate (in this case red could also represent blood which in turn could more specifically represent a tragedy which needs to be prevented or altered).

Lastly, they really do seem to be focusing (in a subtle way) on phones in the trailer, so I'd be pretty surprised if they didn't play at least some sort of major role.

Reminds me of the intro to 3. I will buy this day one no questions asked.

Just showing the protagonist himself is kinda of a big deal in itself since this is the character who you're going to be spending the next 60-80 hours with. In fact, the less they show of a game, the more pleasantly surprised I feel when playing it.

The persona games are exact the opposite of what I want from a game. Generic looking anime type characters that looks bland and boring as hell set in what looks like cartoon hell. Next.

Let's hope there are 0 (count 'em, zero) references to p3/4.

@kaigan: there may be no out right cameos but there will be references thats just how persona is. there are a bunch of persona 3 references in 4, and that game stood on its own just fine

I don't quite understand the excitement around this trailer, they show almost nothing except the look of the new main character. I mean, yay, new Persona now also on PS4, but this site especially explodes with hype for what is by and large a simple anime clip.

In the same vein, I don't understand why Jeff is excited for P5 when he doesn't give a shit about P3 because it doesn't have the P4 characters he fell in love with (figuratively speaking.) My point being, P3 is good, play it ffs.

Remote Endurance Run with Jeff and Vinny. With all that hardware at GBEAST, this has to be possible. Or Remote Play, live streaming, SOMETHING!!

P5 coming to the PS4 is great news, means I can sell my PS3 and all my games now, clean out some space and get some money back. Got a few more games I should finish but I can't stand using the DS3 anymore, the DS4 finally completely spoiled me for it.
