The Best PS1 Final Fantasy Game Headed to Steam

I think I got to the end of disc 3 before I lost my tolerance for FF8 and I only got to disc 2 of FF7 before my tolerance gave out. So I guess FF8 is better?

I love FF8! I've always found the "It was so tedious intentionally breaking the game for myself and then stomping everything" argument for FF8 really funny.

Something else that's really funny? Patrick got a trailer for a port of a 15 year old game to 9 pages of comments with one sentence.

Probably one of my least favourite RPG experiences ever. I don't even know if I could give a solid reason why, I just remember having such a bad time with it. Mayhaps I will give it a chance some 12 years after I last played it.

Final Fantasy Viii is the Majora's Mask of the Final Fantasy series.

VIII had that cool/fun card game (that you could exploit to make the ending fights a complete cake walk), but the rest of the game is a huge emo turd.

I realize this is just a huge emo troll by Kleptok, but we ALL know that IX is the pinnacle of PS1 Final Fantasy games. It has a higher number than the other two. It's simple math.

You can not pick a best when they are all equally bad.

It must be opposite day. 8 was the worst ps1 final fantasy. The story was trash and battle system easily abused.

Thats's kind of great honestly. I have fairly crippling OCD, so I was never able to get through FFVIII as much as I liked everything about it because I absolutely had to have 100 of every spell at all times, so I'd find some fool enemy with Zombie and I'd sit there for an hour drawing it out of him like the world's slowest, angriest cow. It basically fixes this game.

People need to understand that debating over which FF game they liked is a lot like a person who loves Dr. Who and debating who played the role best. Everyone one is different and everyone had a different personal connection to each one so although we may argue with passion over FF games, its all good natured fun

8 is POOOOOOOOOOOOOP for people who like GACKT.

Looking forward to those 2 minute cut scenes every time I cast a summon spell and the epic love story of Squall and his girlfriend...um...what was her name again? I swear Squall had a girl, but it's like she had no character or personality traits.

Thing is, VII and VIII are the only ones (outside of the MMOs) that saw PC releases in the past. They're not actually doing anything to these ones except making them go under windows 7, whereas they'd have to actually port the whole thing to release any of the others.

So basically I wouldn't get my hopes up.

also 8 is one of the worst games I've ever played in my entire life. It's the Desert Bus of RPG-like adventure games only they did it by being incompetents while DB was bad on purpose.

8 is the only Final Fantasy I started and didn't finish. Dreadful, awful game.

There are things I like about 8, but I replayed it a few years ago and ultimately I think the junction system is bad.

If you want to have good characters, then you spend a ton of time drawing magic. It's tedious and boring. I didn't mind it as a teenager, but as an adult I found the game to be egregiously wasting my time.

The second issue is that by using magic you are then basically decreasing your stats. So it tends to encourage you to not use magic and simply basic attack for much of the game - which also makes it boring.

I love VIII and I am not ashamed

VIII is amazing, but it does fall apart pretty hard in the final disc. I still love Junctioning, I still love the story, and i still love a lot of the characters.

Fuck yeah it is. FFVIII is my favorite of the entire series (though I grant that probably has less to do with any measure of "objective" quality and more to do with it being the first FF game I played). I actually played the original PC port of FFVIII to completion before ever playing the PS1 version and am sorely tempted to grab this if only to have it on Steam. Hell I should probably get it just to play Triple Triad again (I spent easily tens, possibly over a hundred hours with that card game over the years).

Please square, just release IX already.
