This was the first Final Fantasy numbered title I played and the only one I finished... Maybe if I was in my own house with a hot teen girlfriend and plenty of weed again I could get through another one :o

8 was awesome.

8 Has always been the best (apart from maybe 3,4 and 6 - but post snes 8 just had the best setting, the more enjoyable combat - the works!

Final Fantasy VIII was good and criminally rejected back when it came out. However, EVERYONE knows Final Fantasy IX was the best game out of the PS1 era. Sorry, Patrick.

8 is kinda wack tbh, though the SNES "trilogy" is the height of the series easily. Those need a proper, sprite-based HD remake on every platform. Hasn't been a version of 5 or 6 since the GBA.

2 and 13 are worse tbh.

Also yeah, there needs to be a proper Steam version of Tactics (not the PSP remake that, while it added some cool stuff, jumbled things around in a weird way.)

I never actually finished the game and I don't remember why. I didn't hate it or get bored with it, but early on disc 3 I just stopped and never picked it back up. Maybe I'll give it another chance during the holiday break or sometime later.

I'm sure Patrick loves his job.

I think I got up to the end of the first disk, and all I remember about VIII is that I couldn't figure out how to get new weapons, opening the genie bottle thing with the summon in it as soon as I got it and that dude couldn't take the shot.

So I guess this is a nice chance to revisit this and actually beat it.

Oh, I'd disagree on that. There are enough differences between any given Final Fantasy game (to not even get into spinoffs) that everyone has their own opinions on which is best, not to mention the pretty significant split between the Amano and Nomura eras. Saying you're a fan of Final Fantasy could mean something completely different from person to person.

I am with you on that, there seem to be a lot of people nowadays that love IX, but I honestly thought it was a terrible game and the only FF game besides XIII that I actually quit playing after 20+ hours because I didnt like the story and was fed up with the game.

I also think that 8 was the beginning of the end for the FF franchise, it was at that point where FF and a lot of jRPGs in general jumped the shark and got so full of its own self-serious pretentious pseudo-philosophical bullshit that I couldnt stomach them anymore. I think 7 was the best Playstation FF game but over all to me 6 was the pinnacle of the franchise and I can replay that game any time

Love the soundtrack to this game, one of Nobuo Uematsu's best in the series. I think the later FF games have lost something without him composing the scores.

@geraltitude: Same thing happened when they released FF7 a couple months ago. There was a...well let's just say some internet drama and Square patched in the original soundtrack. I doubt they'd make the same mistake twice.
