The Combat of Lord of the Rings: War in the North

Graphics look kinda plain, but otherwise it all looks like some simple fun. Plus DWARVES, man!

Meh. Just looks kind of like the GameCube games, but with unnecessary gore added in.

This video make me kind of hate this game. Felt really...... emm... false? I dunno. The quotes from the books and everything the people were saying over the video was pretty awful. Me no talk pretty right now.

I know the battles in the book were violent, but I don't think Tolkien specifically detailed orcs writhing in pain as black spheres gushed forth from their leg-stumps. 
But I haven't read LotR in a while, so maybe I forgot about that part.

I didn't think LOTR was popular because of how brutal it was. This looks more like Fallout 3.

Slow Motion Slashing: The Movie: The Game

This doesn't look like a $60 game. I'd be willing to be $30 for it, tops.  Also, I thought we were past the Lord of the Rings.

Movement and combat looks stiff as hell.

I wouldn't have any interest in this if it wasn't for Snowblind.

They sure love their slow motion. It feels like this video is about 3 times as long as the original footage.

Is it weird that I wish the combat was like Demons' Souls?

Looks decent, but I wouldn't be surprised if its pure shit like every other LOTR game. I'm sure all of this is what Tolkien was looking for out his legacy.

idk... i remember the people in the film could barely take out the hybrid general dudes.

I do wish this game explained more about the actual gameplay. All I know is that ' we embrace our m rating'.

Listen I am no fanboy to the Lord of the Rings series or to the films but I think tolkien envisioned a brutal

war-torne world because it represend the horrors and experiences of  WW1 and WW2 which tolkien took to heart having faught in WW1 and also having a son fight in WW2.  Building on the brutality of the series no matter how good it could be seems to diminsh entierly what tolkien was trying to teach.  Because violence is clearly where this game is being aimed I hope they can bring A LOT of emotion and story to the table to expaned on what tolkien wanted.

P.S. I would love to lope the head off an orc 

Why are people complaining about the violence not being in tone with the books when the lady-character can rapid-fire magic missiles while aiming from the hip like a third person shooter? I'm pretty sure that's a bit more of a departure from the books than some severed limbs.

But still, kind of looking forward to this game.

All they talk about is how awesome chopping of heads and limbs is, still it doesn't look very convincing at all looking at that video... :|

The choppy choppy does look kinda fun.  Like Soldier of Fortune with swords.

This looks.... awful. Not precisely the game this Lord of the Rings fan has been waiting for.

I'm always in favour of dismemberment.

It's taken a long time, but I've grown really weary of 'Developer Diaries'. Just call them 'Soundbyte Diaries' and get it over with.

i think they really need to give up on the lord of the rings video game idea. 

This started out well enough. I was excited to see it was Snowblind (of Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance and Champions of Norrath fame) working on a new action RPG. But this video quickly killed that. It looks just like the Lord of the Rings games from last generation. And half the video going on about the game's big feature being... dismemberment? Meh.

Looks good, gimme a demo.

So many of you are the most cynical, jaded, overly critical people on the internets, that i have seen.

Lord of the Dynasty Warriors. Give me a demo and we'll see.

Actually the combat was the book's weakest point.
