i like the look of it but ive played a million dual stick shooters at this point and with magicka there was a certain amount of complexity to the game that separated it from most other action RPGs. I hold out hope that this is more than what it seems on face value.

They released a million DLC packs for Magicka but never updated it so it could run on my laptop. I'm not supporting them in the future.

It only took them a half year to have Magicka remotely playable post launch... Bridge burned here.

It looks a lot like that free game Valve put out on Steam a few years ago. Alien Swarm? Yes, Alien Swarm. Not necessarily a bad thing.

My sentiments exactly. Glad(?) to know I'm not the only one.

Magicka had the best combat in it's genre with it's innovative, strategic spell casting. It's what made the game good at all and stand apart from all the other games of this type. This looks like very straight up and standard by comparison, dime a dozen, very disappointing so far unless there's a catch.

Magicka makes me feel like an uninspired idiot every time I boot up; my mind just isn't quick enough. The thing about video games is that there's a layer disconnect between what you want to do and what the controls allow you. I imagine that the wizards can arcane-firebolt a dude, then turn around, create a stone wall, make it rain, create a shield and then electrify every wet target in 2 seconds. It would take me about 2 minutes to coordinate my fingers to do all that.

That's what I thought. If all it ends up being is Alien Swarm with more levels I'll be way into it.

Needs a 'Nam expansion.

Since it isn't on Steam, I can't buy it.

They need to do a lot of work on a couple things from Magicka before i'll really consider this one.

For one, the game (Magicka) is clearly designed as a co-op game, and as expected, this makes the single player rather awful. One of the core mechanics in co-op is reviving downed allies - impossible while playing alone. add to that the inability to do combo attacks and...yeah. You are less effective, and restart much more often, making the game a bit tedious in the later levels.

So, that could of course be fixed by only playing co-op....but not really.

The multiplayer in magicka is incredibly buggy - connection drops are frequent, and once you drop, you can't get back in without restarting the game session. Again, losing all of the progress in a level.

That said, Magicka was wonderful idea, wonderful writing...but the technical side needs some work. Make this a co-op game I can drop in and out of and easily find a game online, and i'll be excited for it.

I feel you. I really love the concept behind Magicka but I'm absolutely terrible at it. It might very well be the most frustrating game I've ever played. The combat scenarios are always overwhelmingly chaotic; I queve up the wrong spell combination, I use the elements the enemies are strong against, I get burnt/wet/frozen, I get swarmed and can't get away, etc. There is just too much stuff to keep track of at the same time. It almost feels like dumb luck every time I do manage to get through a hard battle.

That'll teach 'em to make mistakes on their first game. Let's make sure they're never successful. Maybe via the forums we can keep track of where departing team members go after this and boycott those games too just to make sure. And work out where they live and go take their stuff that they probably bought with game money.
