Worms: Armageddon was my favourite PC game for a long while. I've never felt that they lived up to that game, although I've only played around with a quarter of their many iterations since.

What they showed does look good, and the water stuff was interesting. I don't know if the excitement I had passing the keyboard back and forth between friends and family is still even possible. Hopefully it's something they manage one of these times, because I'm always looking.

I always felt Worms: World Party was their best. It was essentially Worms: Armageddon with a lot more weapons.

Those two games are interchangeably the pinnacles of the series (I guess World Party wins out because it straight up has more stuff and is basically the same game as Armageddon). Every game after that was just riffing off the ideas presented in those two games, or was 3D and not great.

I'll be the first to admit, I played a LOT of Worms 3D, and I quite enjoyed it. Apart from that repeating menu music. OH MY GOD.

Played the original to death on PS1, played the iOS port to death last summer, and this looks like a nice direction for the series.

this game is going to be so fucking great. ive been waiting for a proper worms game forever . . and this is the direction they need to go in.. 2d, with next level physics. i hope there is more than just WATER as a liquid. id like there to be volcanic levels that have pockets of magma that burst open when shot, there could be some really interesting gameplay scenarios going on with environmental stuff like that . maybe an oil refinery type map with pockets of oil that slow worms down and prevent them from jumping..

Holy shit, a version of Worms on Facebook, as long as the graphics were on-par with the full versions, complete with asynchronous multiplayer would be incredible!

Well, just so long as it wasn't one of those shitty "pay to win" games...

To be honest the only thing I really want is the ability to play online with people super easily. As a "hardcore" gamer It's not often I think, man I'd love to have this game on Facebook, or just somewhere I can easily play it online, so far the online has been kind of lackluster.

Oh and did anyone else think the art style had the worms looks a little indistinct, like nothing stood out and the worms blended in a bit too much

Weird people can get excited for Worms again, I feel like its just something you revisit with your friends for a bit every few years and then forget about. Like Mario Party or whatever. Looks good though, probably the best Worms game.

@Landon: Probably one of those things where they get a lot of money from overseas/mobile versions as for the Worms game success. I've pretty much avoided the franchise (aside from the one Worms game that came with my 360 memory unit before the USB drive fix), but after seeing it on the Steamgifts site, the one offbeat worms game of Worms Crazy Golf actually looks different, fun to play & rather unique among the franchise so I'm looking forward to grabbing that on a steam sale as I'm not sure about how much I'd enjoy Worms Revolution or the other Worms games being that much different from the one Worms game I have.

@iAmJohn: I'm not sold on it yet either. I'm just sayin it's good to see them taking greater strides with the traditional gameplay (as in experimenting with a new engine) rather then slight iteration on their older systems which feels like they've tapped that engine out.

Sure, and I'll give you that having a new physics engine is kind of cool, since it lets them do weird stuff like the water. But even with all the new visual flairs, it looks like they've made yet another Worms game that looks nicer. Problem is, they've basically done that every year for a while now. I really hope they show something more because it looks like the same game I've bought numerous times over with a fresh coat of paint.

I'm so torn about these games. On one hand I hate how little they've changed and Team 17 is just a one trick pony but on the other hand there aren't many games like these coming out anymore so I guess they fill a niche.

I'm always fascinated these are still being made. I cannot fathom the kind of people who will buy the same game after a decade straight.

@EthanML: Bet their overheads are comparatively lower than higher studios given how simple the visual style and gameplay is. They probably get a lot more mileage out of those assets because they reuse them so often. I may be talking out of my arse but I've seen a lot of the same weapons and levels across multiple 3D Worms titles.

Maybe 2 years ago I picked up a PS1 copy of Worms World Party on a whim. I did it mostly because I hadn't owned a Worms game up until that point, but also 'cause there didn't seem to be another version of Worms out at that time that was significantly different or superior in any way.

I don't know either way, but this one at least looks interesting at a glance, it'd be cool if they did something good with the series.

Every game released after Armageddon/World Party has been shit. It's baffling how they time and time again manage to make Worms games with mechanics, graphics, physics, arsenals, modes, levels and/or "feel" that is greatly inferior to a game they made 13 years ago.

I really hope this one will turn out good, but I'm not holding my breath.

Looks fun enough. Use to be the hugest fan of the series but really I haven't cared to play them at all recently. I guess maybe this one will be OK. I like that for the first time in ages they seem to be tooling around extensively with the 2D formula.

This seems like a nice move, to be honest. I never liked the 3D games and if I wanted to play actual 2D worms, there are already several titles that are extremely similar to each other. This at least looks a bit different while having the 2D games' gameplay.

Got fond memories of the first game, bought the XBLA one as well as Worms Reloaded on Steam and hardly play them. Suspect that series has the whole Mario Kart thing that Ryan talks about.
