Same here. UT2004 had the better, more varied and more inventive level designs (there were levels with space ship combat and fights between large, moving vehicles), but I didn't quite like the gameplay there as much, whereas UT3 felt like a really good remake of UT99.

Drew makes a great host.

You forget that Super Mario Kart for the SNES was Jeff's first Mario Kart game. The Mario Kart theory holds that the first Mario Kart game you play is the best Mario Kart game you will ever play.

I can't figure out why Jeff's taste in games surprises people. How does this still surprise people? This is Jeff Gerstmann. This is Jeff we're talking about. Have you not heard the hundreds of other times he's gone on record and said he didn't enjoy or found a popular game disappointing? Like Super Metroid, Half Life 2, Super Smash Bros., Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, Red Dead Redemption, Metroid Prime, Dota 2, Metal Gear Solid, Goldeneye 007 and Perfect Dark, Sonic 3, Yoshi's Island, Star Fox 64, Resident Evil 4, and not to mention Nights Into Dreams. And that's just the stuff I can remember off the top of my head.

Jeff is really interesting when he talks about games because I feel like he's all over the place. He's a real wild card. But at some point this has to be common knowledge right? It can't be a surprise if he's already said he didn't like Mario Kart 64 many times in the past, right?

Been playing Mario Karts since Super Mario Kart, and for many years, Mario Kart 64 was my favorite entry in the series. It was the one I had the fondest memories of; of standing in a Toys 'R Us during Christmas and playing 4p split screen with other kids on their giant 50 inch TV while my Mom shopped for presents.

It was also when the Blue Shell actually was useful and not just cheaply stupid. And so many good tracks! Kalamari Desert, for fuck's sake! Toad's Turnpike! Moo Moo Farm!

During the Crash Time segment, someone (Brad, I think) mentioned that there are full episodes of the TV show available online somewhere.

Anyone know where? That show looks cool, and I want to check it out in all its German glory.

Can't blame a person for liking what they like! But yeah, his game tastes don't really line up with mine all that often, but I think that's why I find it even more interesting to hear him discuss games - being in a metaphorical echo chamber is boring. I agree though, I find it weird that people are surprised at this point - unless they just started coming to the site / following these personalities that we all know and love, in which case not so much. Even divorced from that, people should try and understand other people's points of view on things though, it makes you a more well-rounded person :)

To be on topic, glad this stream is up now, missed about 90% of it yesterday! Yay freedom!

Mario Kart 64 is and always will my favorite mario kart. It's the first and only Mario Kart game I've spent a lot of time with, and I'm totally fine with that. It's just such a singular experience for me since the series lives and dies by the one game I played as a kid. The Mario Kart rule stands true in my case. The gamespot review is pretty terrible as well. It's sounds like it's written by an old ass cranky man. And that was back in 97! I can only imagine how that dude feels today. I suppose I have old ass cranky men like Jeff to look to. <3

The theory is your first Mario Kart is your FAVORITE Mario Kart. You can like Mario Kart 64 as much as you want, but if it's not your favorite then the theory still stands.
