How will the writers explain the invasion on the capital? Eh, looks good though, now MW2 HAS to be played.

The biggest commercial release this year looks like the game of the year as well.  When does that happen in the movie industry?

I dunno... I think I've seen the W. Monument post-nuke a few times too many lately. Especially when it looks EXACTLY the same every time

And the whole reason the first one was so good story-wise was because it wasn't overblown, it  was the most realistic save-the-world situation I've ever seen, game or movie. This looks like what  Pirates of the Caribbean 2 was to the first one.

I do not understand the amount of hype behind this release.

COD:MW1 was an OK game. It wasn't freaking Christ resurrected. I guess the multiplayer really hooked people in? I don't know. I won't dump $60+ on this for release, that's for sure.

But I'm happy people are stoked about it. It's always good to see people excited for game releases.

Rarely can I suspend my disbelief enough for a dramatic video game trailer to have any impact in terms of its story... because I can never ignore the fact I am looking at something computer generated.  This trailer, with its biblical reference and the serious-toned low-key talking guy coupled with the dramatic piano thumping in the background couldn't get me to either.  But the game itself does look pretty damn awesome :D  Little over a month away...

I love trailers that put out minimal gameplay. All about the hype, the sell, and little about what the consumer will actually get to do. Granted, it will probably be an enjoyable game and people will be in comas fiddling with it, and it does what an ad is suppose to do: grab the attention of the average consumer and make them curious enough about the product to get it or influence others to get it.

So yeah. Dramatic explosions are awesome.

Did anyone else get the message?  The Russian guy talking is basically saying America has fought and killed people all over the world, and they don't care because the death and destruction does not happen in their own country.  I think Modern Warfare 2 could potentially be an anti-war message to all Americans, at least, thats what this trailer is telling me.

MW1 was everything that SHOULD be celebrated in games.

It wasn't the most graphically powerful, nor the ultimate best story telling, nor the ultimate best online or anything.

It was just a super focused, super tight, well presented game.

LOL!  I love the Fallout references.  Washington D.C. in ruins always gives you that OMG factor.  I guess thats why Fallout 3 is one of my favorite games.  Looks like they are looking to send a message with this game.  This game looks absolutely amazing!  Buying it at launch without a doubt.

I can definitely see that White House area a multiplayer level.

While I like taking the story to American soil it seems a little over the top.  The White House  in ruins and dead soldiers everywhere?   It is either some sort of nuclear war or a complete departure from the world as we know it.   (I know it’s a video game, but CoD always seemed planted in reality IMO)

@Ahmad_Metallic: Meh, that's just the Christianity shit getting into the way (that Cain guy is in the bible). Its unnecessary at this point, but there might be some more meaning behind it. Maybe IW have some idea for it. *shrugs*

@JackiJinx:@emkeighcameron: You both make great points. This game will probably be good but it is getting too much hype. I like CoD and all, but their gameplay has always been the same. And no awesome setpiece(s) can change that. But that is just my opinion.

...and it was all a dream...

it heartens me heart greatly that, of course, 50 cent could very well be at the centre of the firestorm of apocalpytic visions wiping the face of America as we know it, seeking skulls.

Glenn Beck would love this game as this utter collapse of America is just as what he envisions being inevitable with the failure in chief Obama turning the great US into a socialist nation, vulnerable to attack from within and outside.

I will love to see how troops getting on US soil and GARRISONING THE FUCKING WHITEHOUSE can be explained within the very -based-on-reality setting the call of duty series has.

To be fair, tetris doesn't even change the setpiece much. Doesn't mean everyone gets bored of tetris after the first time around.
replace tetris with cocaine/cheetos/orange juice if you're still unconvinced.

Wow, I was just checking out IW's forums before stopping by here and whadda ya know it people are losing their shit here too. People are acting like this is the most controversial thing ever in a video game. Yes its over the top and yes its a big departure from the series but for crying out loud Call of Duty needs this. CoD's plots are not epic, they are drier than the PBS documentaries they were based off.

CoD4 played it waay to safe and anyone who disagrees should take another look. You're fighting in an unnamed middle east country because we're too afraid to say Iraq, you're also tasked with fighting the Russians but technically its not Russia because they are ultra-nationalist Russian terrorists so we are technically not offending the Russians either.

By focusing the story on what seems to be the downfall of a major US city and doing it in a semi-real world setting is rather cutting edge than any of the pussy stuff thats been done. Terrorists are not from no name countries, the USA is not invincible, and Russia will in all likelihood be our enemy again. I think games need to stop living in fantasy land where not offending someone is more important then being realistic or factual or at least having damn good storytelling.

No way in hell is this controversial. It has no message or political undertones.

You know what this is?

Proving just how intensely over-the-top MW2 is gonna be. For better or for worse.

To be quite honest, you've opened my eyes on that issue. I never really considered that. Yes, I think MW2 needs this kind of content, it'll be a big step from COD4 playing it safe in that area.

Any American in here who is loosing there mind over this, really get over your self. We have been blowing up the entire world in movies and video games for years! i'm glad someone is making a game that takes place in our home country. cuz that sounds exciting as hell (only in a video game of course) I say, let Black Hawk Helicopters lay ruined in the streets of NYC, Let the White House burn to the ground as long as it makes for a compelling drama. im in all the way!

BTW, I just watched a great documentary series on Broadway from PBS ((so, yeah, take what I say with a grain of salt (and thank you, Netflix))....this game looks awesome.  Also BTW, I kinda agree with you...both in the boring PBS stuff and some of the other political statements.  I don't even like FPSs that much, but I loved CoD4, so I'm psyched.

Because either A) IW knows that their biggest audience is on the 360 and could get some extra money by putting the logo there or B) Microsoft just straight up payed them.

@Pepsicolaboy: It's supposedly an exclusive to the xbox 360 console (says here on the dashboard) but obviously not now.
