@jjweatherman: There's a comparison screenshot gallery on Eurogamer, check it out. You can immediately notice the difference:

It's like going from the Vita screen to a PSP one. Yuck!

The Vita is actually an amazing device, and a must own for those with a PS4. Remote play doesn't get a lot of press, but it's a genuinely amazing feature and adds massive value to both systems. This was clearly Sonys plan all along and I can see the vita being a viable and well supported platform for years to come. A comment like yours is about a year out of date - the Vita hate bandwagon has long been retired.

Is this where we are on this nonsense now? Glad I've been caught up on both extremes of this argument in a single post.

I really dig the OLED Vita. The screen is phenomenal and a huge plus for the system. The Vita is worth it for handheld Spelunky alone, but other games like Olli Olli, Hotline Miami and Rayman really make it shine.

I'm not sure why, but it feels like everyone saying "The OLED is the best part of the Vita!" are just people trying to dismiss this new Vita so that they feel better about their initial purchase.

I could be wrong!

Anyone have the PS Vita? Can you tell me if the battery life is pretty decent on it?

Yeah, it's great. The standby mode is fantastic and rarely uses that much power, so I'll typically leave it on my bedside table for days without touching it, then pick it up and it still has battery. I'm always surprised when I have to charge it because it's so rare.

I have no idea what the LCD screen will do to affect that. I would imagine the battery life would get worse but I'm sure they'll compensate for it.

I do the same thing haha. I'm always surprised it isn't dead when I forget it in sleep mode.

Time to start buying up those OLED Vitas. I've been anticipating this but still didn't pull the trigger on the Vita. Just like with Metroid Prime Trilogy, I dallied too long and missed the boat on that cash cow. So learn from me and go out and buy yourself 2 Vitas.

Alright, I just ordered a Vita. The slowly encroaching LCD nightmare has grown too much to bear. How many games does that 4gb card hold?

I just did the same thing went to Amazon, and just bought the Walking Dead Bundle. Man, how cool would it be to play 3D Dot Game Heroes on the Vita? It would be a great way to play that game.

There are so many questions I have about how many Playstation Network games are playable on the Vita, and to your point - how big are those files? I can imagine how that could get out of hand quickly.

Not that much. I'd recommend an 8 gig card as minimum.

So, yeah, basically, people will defend the Vita no matter what.

I like my launch Vita but I've now got 3 dead pixels on my screen. I can only tell if the game I'm playing isn't in motion. Though if I had to get a newer PS Vita I'm worried not having the OLED screen will make my experience worse because I knew the glory that is OLED. It is a shame that North America is only getting black. Maybe I'll import a colored one just to have something different if I need to.

I personally can't stand the OLED. With the lights turned off, you can see spots behind the screen, which is annoying. Also, the greens are overbearing. I get that people like the vibrancy of the OLED, but not at the cost of color accuracy.

From all the reviews I've read so far, the black levels of the new screen don't get quite as deep, but the colors are much more accurate.

This is a great website that has the file sizes of Vita games (3DS and others as well): The Download Guide

I think that's not it. I at least feel like I made a better deal one year ago when amazon.de sold PS Vita LBP bundles for 130-140€. The "old version" seems to be of higher quality at a lower price which makes it nuts in my opinion to wait for the LCD version. The only thing which is pretty cool is the extra battery life - can't have enough of that, right?

I don't think most people would notice the difference between the screens if they're not side-by-side. OLED or LCD, I'd recommend the Vita to anyone who's in the Playstation ecosystem.

OLED Vita is like going from a good plasma to an average LED TV. (OLED and plasma are very similar screen technologies, vibrant colours, strong black levels & contrast)

The argument between you guys is on two fronts, which is why you can't agree. Sales vs use. The Vita is amazing to use. I've been playing Resogun and a bit of Assassin's Creed in bed, which is great. But yeah, it's selling poorly.

It's great for it's use, but a failure in terms of profit.

Also, the 3DS sucks. It's a pretty shitty device. The 3D doesn't work as well as it should, the touchscreen is finicky and the ergonomics are just crap. It's a shitty thing to hold for a prolonged amount of time. But damn it if the games aren't amazing. I bought the system for Pokemon alone, but then there is stuff like Fire Emblem where I sunk a great amount of time into.

So it's shit, but it's so great, as well.

Yes definitely. The Vita is far and away the superior product, it is built better, it has a better OS, it doesn't have any obtuse feeling features, it's far more powerful and the control scheme is also better. (even if I don't like the analog sticks)

I have a 3DS XL as well, it's a big improvement over the original but the Vita is the better machine in every way, hell, I would argue even for games the Vita is better as I did not enjoy the new Pokemon very much, Zelda is great and so is Luigi's Mansion and Fire Emblem, but after those there isn't exactly a lot to write home about on the system. I'd take the many solid ports, indie titles and games like Persona 4 Golden, Tearaway and Soul Sacrifice over the 3DS repertoire. Then there's remote play and the fact that as a PS+ member you could literally not buy any games for your Vita and still have a bunch to play.

@joeyravn: I like the Vita AND the 3DS. Though admittedly the 3DS hardware is pretty shoddy, thing holds a battery charge of all like two hours. I wouldn't say Nintendo is doomed but the Wii U...sorta IS a piece of shit. I'm not sure why that somehow invalidates somebody's like of the Vita?

I'm surprised that people rarely mention the slim Vita's micro USB connector.
I love my OLED vita, but that proprietary plug makes it way less portable!
I'm one of those people who bring along their Vita's when they travel, and let me tell you, lugging around the Vita charger is a pain.

So to me the choices are: Slimmer, Lighter, Longer Battery Life, Micro USB Vita Vs. OLED Vita.

Playstaion Vita! Now with a less good screen! And Borderlands! Yay! (This basically nudges me toward getting a Vita sooner rather than later in order to have the better display so mission accomplished for Sony I guess?)

Until they drop the price on their memory cards, the Vita will continue to flop hard. Also, I think most people see taking out the OLED as a downgrade.

It's like they are doing everything in their power to make sure this thing doesn't succeed.

The remote play stuff along with the pretty sizable list of games available now make this a compelling purchase for me at this point. I think I might take my tax return dollars and pick one of these up as an indie game machine if nothing else.

This may sound weird, but i'd rather have a thicker vita for ergonomics' sake. The current vita, which I own, can give me a bit of hand pain from holding something so small.

Anyway, love the vita even if all I really do on it is play Spelunky.

Its nice that early adopters have a better version with the OLED, usually the other way round. Looking at the games that keep coming for the DS, Sony really need to get some cool traditional stuff, quick!

Didn't really like the feel of the slim model, it felt like it was bordering on too thin and plasticy. It's persuaded me to buy the original model... If I can get my hands on one before they sell out.

On the memory card front, I may be suckered into thinking from this point of view, but to me the memory cards being sold separately doesn't bug me that much. It gives you flexibility rather than being stuck with choosing the model dependent on the memory size and for Sony as a compony to be able to just sell the system and create memory cards where needed. I just try to see it as how you could buy a PS3 with 160GB or 320GB memory for different costs.

Apparently Borderlands 2 is releasing on the Vita on March 18th. Think that's when this new Vita will drop?
