Gotta love that ending.

Lol @ the quotes at the end.  It actually made me want the game more.
Posted by Kintaro

Oh nudity! Sabatoor gets points.

Posted by FunExplosions

Man... that last bit made me cringe. Ryan makes some good points. I bet if I played this I'd start feeling pretty empty real quick.

Posted by BigLemon

i loved the string of curses at the end. oh how deliciously gratuitous.

Posted by harrypmgaga

I'm a fan of pointless open-world crazyness. Bring it on!
Posted by MarkWahlberg

And that, children, is how you are supposed to curse.

Posted by Duckchow

Aye, that was a helluva review, Mr. O'Davis.

Posted by Krenor

I like the ending

You mean Saboobteur, rite?

Looks fun enough. I'll probably wait for the bargain bin, though.

The comparisons to Mercs 2 aren't exactly flattering... I'm also not totally interested in more open world shooters(outside of GTA and Saints Row).

Having said that, I really don't like Ryan's view on this copying Prince of Persia and Okami.  First of all it is different, this is more about a film noir style shifting to a more cheerful full color, granted the idea of mood is the same but it is far from a rip off.  Secondly, how can you fault a game for doing something similar to only two games before it?  Many games borrow ideas without receiving criticism for it.  Something just really bothers me about that point.

love the montage at the end!!!

I got my downloadable PC review copy in, waiting for the download to finish though, then we can start pwning teh Naziz0rz

Edited by JoelTGM

It does look fun sort of, but it looks a little rushed too.   I could spend my money on something better.

Posted by Godlyawesomeguy

I love every piece of this game, I get lost in the mythology and open-world constantly and I recommend it to any fan of the genre. I am so glad I pre ordered it, the stealth knife is brutally satisfying.

@Godlyawesomeguy:
Awesome, sounds like something I'll enjoy then. Can't wait for the download to finish.

the ending of the video was EPIC lol

It's funny how most of Ryan's reviews seem to be based around how much he sucks at the game. Seriously, his points against most games are not because they're bad or not done very well.. but solely because HE was not able to grasp how the game worked.

Posted by bekern

Lol at the ending. I wonder how real Irish people are going to feel about the main character.

Posted by gbrading

Great review, I certainly agree with the "gamieness" aspects, although I personally wouldn't say The Saboteur is copying Prince of Persia or Okami in doing it's black and white thing. I'd say it was copying the film Pleasantville.

Ryan does have a tendency to focus on the little things, and i cant fault any of his complaints. But i feel like i could take half of those issues in stride.  I'm not sure its that he cant grasp them, he is just recognizing they could of been better.

I agree with Ryan, the devil's in the details.

He sorta concedes that point, though, when he says the entire industry is built on the copying of good ideas. I doubt the staleness of the color idea seriously affected the game's score, if at all.

And, love that ending, guys.

Well he's not  an IRA terrorist and I've heard worse accents on TV on almost every show where someone tries to sound Irish. So, could be much worse. I don't think they'll give a shite by comparison.

Holy Tits! God I love Giantbomb lulzlulz

very nice ending. i'd like to give this game a shot, although i'm not really sure i'll have the time for it...

?  I bought the game.  I think his review is dead on.  The game feels rough around the edges....around every edge.  Be nice if someone could go in and just make everything feel more polished.  The game would really be awesome.

I'm playing it and enjoying it.  The only thing that constantly gets on my nerves is just the way the movement feels.  You feel kinda sluggish and never really in complete control of Sean.  And that feeling translates into just about every aspect of the game.  From the shooting to the driving.

As for Sean as a character...cussing and all...I'm loving him.  When the game starts it seemed like I'd get tired of his constant cussing and funny one-liners real quick.  But he grows on you.  None of the other characters seem memorable, however (from what I've played thus far).
Posted by Yummylee

lmao As much ofa fullblown cliche' Sean is, I find that actually caters to his surprisingly likable charm.

And yeah i agree with most of the issues the review points out, most notably when the natzi uniform just dissapears. So much effort into getting Sean lookin like a beast with one of those gestapo General uniforms only to lose it seconds later >=/

can't quite say i'm surprized

Good review, but Ryan's gripe with the black/white to colour art style bothers me. If the execution was poor or lazy, fair enough, but negatively comparing it to two relatively old games perplexes me.

Irrespective of the fact that one of the games is quite obscure while the other uses desaturation to a much lesser effect, The Saboteur does it very well and in a unique way that reminded me more of the film Schindler's List than either of those two games (the subject matter no doubt helped). Also I did not encounter the same difficulties in navigating desaturated areas, but playing the game on a monitor 2 feet away from my face probably had something to do with that.

Nevertheless, just as Ryan did with the art style, I'm nit-picking the review. As someone who finished The Saboteur with 84% completion (skipped some side-quests), I agree with almost every other complaint raised in this review. However, even though virtually every aspect of the gameplay is broken to some degree, I had a lot of fun with the game and really enjoyed its crazy set pieces (the burning blimp and armoured train come to mind).

Without spoiling anything, I will say for a generally light-hearted game, the ending takes a surprisingly dark and mature turn. Not easily forgettable.

Yay, Ireland!

I WOULD like to see a game with more embedded mechanics, shooting for more immersiveness and mood rather than making everything clear.

Great review

Posted by BD_Mr_Bubbles

Once again though i realize this game is no where near perfect Ryan bothers me with his nitpicks sure the Parkour is not like AC 2 that's because Sean is not a trained assassin who does that kind of thing for a living.  Also the statement about the disguise disapearing I say so what I wouldn't want to walk around in nazi garb all the time and changing out of it yourself would never work. This deserved at least a 4 but oh well thats just my opinion, he has his and though I disagree I respect it.
Posted by PhatSeeJay

I'm not sure if I agree about the gamey part of concerns. I kinda like that it's so obviously a game when doing all those sneaky and destroy missions. I can sometimes feel lost and bored in open world games where everything is so nicely streamlined into the gameplay. In this game everything is just there for me and I can focus my time on exploring what to do while the meters and gadgets tells me when I'm about to fail.

Granted the 'uniform fades away'-thing sucks donkey balls but I doubt there would have been any other way to do it. In Hitman you run around with that botched uniform until you kill a dude and picks up his SAME looking uniform and no one suddenly recognizes you. I guess it would have been enough to clear Nazi's line of sight and they would instantly loose track of you as you blend in with Nazis not alerted.

Anyway, it's an ok experience and I think people should try it before passing judgment. It's an interesting game and it's surprisingly fun to play.

Great review!

I find the game interesting and as soon as I find a bargain bin deal of this game I'll buy it.

Posted by AhmadMetallic

gonna buy it.

Posted by Trexoton

Have not played it, but it's too bad it didn't turn out as cool as it looked. May be worth a test if a demo comes out though.

Edited by WinterSnowblind

I think I'll get the game when it's a little cheaper.  I really love the style and setting, but the problems that came up on the quick look video were pretty damning.  Once again, it seems the developers had a great idea but it just lacks polish.

Well I'm Scottish, we're perhaps the one nation that's treated in an even more stereotypical fashion, and I tend to find it pretty funny, most of the time  :)

Well its not the greatest Irish accent I've heard, but if anyones actually offended by this, theyve got issues...

@Impossibilium: I am Irish and your right I don't give a shit; although people on xbox or ps3 online annoy me with there stereotypical views of us.

Didn't Ryan write that the voice actor for Sean is Irish? Although I personally here some Robert Atkin Downes in his voice.

Looks like one of those games that can be fun if its the right time and price. Give it a few months when the price drops a little and I can see myself picking this up.

Did I just see blatant digi-tits?

Irish rap, like what they did with Rogue Warrior...

LOL! I love the ending. Despite the short comings Ryan listed and showed, this looks like one of those games that could be great fun to play just by taking advantage of and manipulating the mechanics within the game.
