@Krystal_Sackful: I haven't seen enough to have a personal verdict. The ones I like so far are Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell, Sekirei, and Ah! My Goddess. I only go ankle-deep with anime pretty much... watch a complete series every year or two.

@Humanity: But the problem is that you're arguing that there's a lack frames on these characters, even though it has the most frames per character in any fighting games ever. And thats a fact, not an opinion.

@Vortextk: I was just trying to tell you to calm down. I have an opinion about the game that some people share and others don't. Game looks smooth but I still think the moves are lacking frames. Thats my impression of it. You're attacking me on this issue for some reason, and I never even told you "dood you're fucking wrong those frames are FUCKED up get your eyes fixed" - at each step I told you that it's MY opinion, you're entitled to your own. I honestly don't care one way or another at this point so if you were looking for some online victory then here you go, I admit defeat - my personal views on this videogame are totally wrong. You are the absolute. Good job, you're a winner.

Civil? What because I called you lazy? Ok, you aren't lazy, you just have an itch with this game and the only way you can scratch it is to call it out on things that don't exist because you have no objective leg to stand on, and you just said as much. Hate it for the boobs, hate it for the panty shots, hate it for the girl roster or multiple other reasons but any problem with animation or frames is nonsense.

@HerbieBug: I agree the framerate looks very smooth. I went back and rewatched some other fighting games which in my memory seemed to have had better animations. There seemed to be a lot of rose-tinted glasses effect there and not all the titles I thought of had the smoothest animations - so I am willing to concede that it's not as much a frame issue as a style issue I guess. Something about the fighting looks off to me, but at this point I'm guessing it's just all personal preference and nothing the game is doing "wrong" per se.

@Humanity: Skullgirls has the most frames of gameplay animation per character of any 2D fighting game. Not to mention they're very high resolution, and lit in real-time.

There are one or two characters in SF3:3S that have more total frames, but it's because they're padded with more intro and victory animations.

@Vortextk: I have googled it. I've seen many different videos for this game. The animations are definitely not very smooth and seem to be lacking a lot of frames. This might be the "style" they are going for maybe. Darkstalkers, while way older has arguably better animations. This is my opinion of course so you are welcome to disagree. Although in the future it would be nice if you didn't outright assume things, and refer to others in a holier than thou condescending manner. I mean I know it's the internet and everything, but at least try to be a little civil.

Watch the FNF videos on Gametrailers. Their player runs at 60fps. Giantbomb's and youtube's can only do 30, which is why the animations may look to you as though they are missing something here.

edit---- Here:

http://www.gametrailers.com/video/friday-night-skullgirls/726737

watch that. if you still think the animation is poor, you're either trolling or blind (or have a slow computer).

I tend to agree, the animations seem to be lacking frames, same reason i didnt like Blazblue(and a multitude of other reasons).

Wow, this looks bananas. If I was at all into fighting games, I'd be all over this.

Thing about Skullgirls is that it's got an extremely robust tutorial mode, specifically for people who don't play fighting games to learn, practice, and understand the fighting game terminology(I.E. what "launcher" means). So even if you don't play fighting games, this game will teach you how in a far more elaborate and thorough way than any other fighting game before. That's one of the biggest draws of the game, is that it's accessible to everyone.

I don't think that makes it accessible, I think that makes it easier to learn. It's still going to be a lose fest 95% of the time for anyone like me, which is why I'm not going to play it even though it looks great, regardless of good training. Play constantly or get left behind and I just can't take one competitive game seriously enough to play it 20+ hours a week. Local play would be different.

This is what I thought, but until you actually try, you'll never know. I wound up doing shockingly well online cause it's easy to forget that not EVERYone is Daigo Umehara. There are tons of people who just play fighting games in their spare time and, assuming the game's matchmaking is good enough, I found it extremely rare to get matched up against someone who I had no chance against or who was playing massively over my head.

I'm finding it hilarious that like a year later people are still  "OMG THIS ART, BOOBS?!" freaking out.

Art style whatever, I just think the animations are lacking way too many frames. This is supposed to be a fighting game and it's way too common to see characters floating in a freeze frame through an attack. Maybe if it was a 3D fighter that would look interesting but as a sprite based game it just looks lazy.

What? Lacking frames? Stop judging from a cut and go minute trailer and actually look into something you want to condemn someone on first. I know, this is the internet, but people could atleast try. Lazy animation and frames are the last things that will be wrong with this game.

Although I don't like fighting games very much, I have been looking forward to this game for a while. It's just so good looking! This is a game that is made by people who are passionate about what they do, and it shows; it's all in the little details, and the unwillingness to compromise on those details.

I look forward to this game's release.

I'm really not sure what to make of the art style. On the one hand, it's obviously all about sexploitation. On the other hand, it's way too cartoony to actually be hot (putting aside arguments about whether video game girls can be hot, to which I say yes). So is it ironically sexual?

Like other games with pixelated jubblies, I just apply the "creepy old man" litmus test. If my wife or friends saw me playing it, would they immediately think that I'm a little creepy because of it? The answer for Skullgirls is a resounding yes, so I ain't buying it, despite it looking like a damn good fighting game.

Was it just me, or was the framerate a lot higher in that footage than in earlier videos? Was it just that they took the video at a higher fps, or that the game is now running at a higher fps?

Haha, true. I'm pretty sure that buying this game automatically puts you on a "potential sex-offender" list. But it's less creepy than 80% of the anime I've ever heard of.

If you don't play video games because you're afraid of what people might think of you, you should stop playing video games altogether.

Most publications show their video footage at 30fps as a general rule of thumb. Skullgirls will be a 60fps game.

I kinda like it, but the graphics don't look nice and sharp. They look not just like cartoons, but old cartoons. It's like watching old anime compared to new. I don't mind animated style video games, like BlazBlue, but I like it to look crisp and saturated.
