I don't know about this. The whole "modern day, fairy tale noir" thing has been at least 17 million times in several different types of media. On the other hand, zombies have been done to death and The Walking Dead turned out pretty great.

It turns out I have no clue about my expectations for this game.

Finally, this comes to a medium that can really explore its potential. Been a fan of this series for years. Shows like Once Upon a Time and Grimm pissed me off, felt like ripoffs of this great piece of work. But now we shall see. NOW WE SHALL SEE!

just got the first 2 volumes of Fables in the mail today, plan on doing a bit of reading before this comes. Looks cool.

Posted by The_Vein

I really need to read Fables, I think I'll play the game first though so it doesn't ruin my impressions of the game.

Fucking Bigby.

Off the top of my head I can't think of a single popular modern-day fairy-tale noir story.

This was the original series that did it, though. It's good to finally have an adaptation of Fables, too bad it comes after all these other shitty ripoffs.

ALSO TO ANYONE READING FABLES FOR THE FIRST TIME: STOP READING WHEN THE ADVERSARY IS DEFEATED. After that it gets real bad because Willingham clearly had no plans but had to keep the money train going. Apparently the new spinoff Fairest is good? I haven't read it.

@lackingsaint: I think the Dresden Files are probably the most popular, but I wouldn't say they have penetrated the public consciousness or anything.

I saw the trailer for this and had hopes I might finally get a chance to taste some of the Walking Dead magic that I skipped out on because I hate zombie-based media.

Posted by oldenglishC

@larrydavis: Seeing so many people that are into the comics does make me think that the game could be pretty good.

@lackingsaint: Maybe "gritty fairy tale reboot" would have been a better description.

Interested but not yet sold on this. Something tells me I'm going to hear some impressions during Bombin' in the AM. A-woo?

I hope this one isn't a technical disaster and/or is actually fun to play.

Their games still don't look great graphically.

I wish they would update their engine to give characters better facial animation. Team Fortress 2 came out 6 years ago and all of the lip sync is phenomenal. The facial animation in TellTale games looks like it came out of the PS2 era.

There have been a lot of tv shows and movies that take this modern day fairly tale angle. That is to say tv shows or movies that take established fairly tales and put them in a modern setting, which is what I think oldenglishc was trying to get at.

Once Upon a Time and Grimm, two currently running tv shows, have a similar idea. The recent Hansel and Gretel movie is also kinda in the same vein. Plus the upcoming Frankenstein movie is set in the modern day. I am sure there are more, but I can't think of any others off the top of my head.

It's already a big step from The Walking Dead though.

I'd like to see more in the way of mechanics than the admittedly excellent TWD. I love a great story, but I also want to play the game.

Man, I don't know about this one. I trust Telltale enough that I'll keep an open mind towards everything they do, but this looks kind of dumb.

Then again, the idea of a gripping, gut-wrenching adventure game about zombies that got almost universal critical acclaim sounds kind of dumb, too.

I don't know about this, but I guess I didn't have huge expectations for The Walking Dead at first either.

@adamwd: I think this looks amazing. Very original. the animations are still a little stiff thought.

Fables is my favorite graphic novel series, and I hope that more people will be obliged to seek it out if this becomes popular. To echo what @larrydavis said, the original run of Fables is the best, and you should stop reading once the Adversary is dealt with.

There is another book called 1001 Nights of Snowfall that fills in a lot of backstory and does very neat world-building that should be read between trades 3 and 4, if I remember correctly, and is part of the original storyline. It's quite good.

Posted by LarryDavis

@retrovirus: How's Jack of Fables, I never read any of that either.

Posted by ddensel

So..... are we getting a another Sam & Max ever?

Posted by RetroVirus

@larrydavis: Me neither, although I've heard it's pretty good.

Posted by wallee321

I really hope they fixed their engine from TWD, I kept losing my save data. I looked up the fix on their forums, but I never got past episode 2. Still put in over 8 hours, from starting over. I kinda got the gist of the rest of the story from all the goty podcast.

I'm going to buy this, but I just know by the fall or winter sale this is going to be ~ 50%, going by how often TWD was on sale last year.

Posted by cthomer5000

This gets a blind purchase from me. I enjoyed the Walking Dead that much.

Posted by chilipeppersman

@wallee321: i hope so too. The FPS in walking dead was terrible on my 360

Hopefully this isn't another Jurassic Park.

Very unlikely, they seemed to have pretty much have wrapped up the series with the third season.

Also, I have zero clue about Fables, but I have faith in Telltale.

Never read Fables(or Fable?) but I'm getting this.

"The Wolf Among Us" should be the title of a new weekly Alex feature.

Posted by cooljammer00

Why is this game more expensive on PC than consoles?!

Posted by Xpgamer7

I wonder if the main character's voice will be more gruff in the final game. Though I think the girls sound straight out of the kind of bad neighborhood but with hope world I like in these kind of urban-ish settings.

Posted by Sergotron

I used to love those Fable books, they really had some of the most charming characters.

Posted by Amazing

Looks more like a comic book visually than TWD was.

Posted by dvdwalker8

where did this come from? I don't seem to remember hearing or seeing anything about until today. Looks gorgeous even if it doesn't really show any gameplay. Will probably pick it up in a couple weeks.

Posted by Sessh

Since I trusted in Telltale's choice I went and bought the first volume of the comic, to check things out before this is released. And the only thing I can say is: I'm in.

Posted by project343

Jurassic Park or The Walking Dead? Lets flip a coin.

Posted by Budwyzer

Started out right with "Rated M, for Mature"

Then went on to gut-punch me and hold my eyes wide open with the visual art style

And then I hear the same great voice actors as in our beloved Sam & Max games, except the main character. He sounds like Wolverine from Wolverine & The X-Men

Posted by RonGalaxy

Holy shit this looks cool.

as Louise implied I didnt know that people able to earn $9469 in 1 month on the internet. hop over to these guys.......... www.rox90.com

EXACTLY. He's a WOLF! What is with his voice?!? He's got the voice of a slimy little creep in this trailer! It is seriously bugging me!
