The Ys Series Continues With Memories of Celceta

Ys series is so damn amazing, have been waiting for this a long time.

Ys games are so much fun to play.

Yeah man, Ys is solid as heck. Really great games with tons of polish. It'd be cool to see Patrick review this or something!

I love all the Ys games so much. I still replay Ys Books 1 & 2 from the turbografx-16 CD on the virtual console from time to time. There seriously hasn't been a bad Ys game, they're all great (some are masterpieces). I'd love to see a QL of this.

Oh man I can't wait to get home and get it off PSN. Been waiting forever for this game. Too bad the story is about lost memories though...

Ys is still a thing?

My collector's edition of this should be showing up from Amazon today, very excited. Luckily I'm almost done with Tearaway, so I'll be ready to start this.

I've never played any of the original Ys games, but I quite liked Oath in Felghana and Ys Seven on PSP. I believe I also have a sealed copy of the I & II remake collection they did that I got from Gamestop for cheap quite a while back when they were clearing out PSP stuff, but I have not opened it.

@video_game_king: Why wouldn't Ys still be a thing? King of the ARPGs and Granddaddy of video games.

Also pleasantly surprised to see a video related to an Ys game up on this sites front page.

@video_game_king: It just didn't come out here anymore. Hell, it's one of the small success stories of piracy and fan translations that helped get a lot of the games over here. Although Kiseki is taking all the steam away from Ys which is why I was so glad with how well this game played when I grabbed the JP version.

Also Sega. Fuck them. Also, I hope Ys doesn't go the way of Yakuza. =( That'll be the day I give up on the Western video game audience. I'm sad now.

@video_game_king: Yes, well. I probably will soon for the Kiseki series. 5 games behind now and XSeed has already stated it's extremely unlikely for 3rd and on to come over here (from them that is. But not many people would probably jump at a project that is that many games long). So I'll just pretend it doesn't exist anymore.. to dull the pain.

Although all the fan translations of Ys games, especially Origins helped ease it. Plus the games being very easy to play without knowing the language is nice.

But back on topic, Celceta is a great game. I don't remember if Zero no Kiseki Full Voice Edition was first or not but this was either Falcom's 1st or 2nd Vita game so there's a little hitches here and there, mainly just FPS drops if you zoom out too much in the overworld in some areas with lots of monsters.

Thanks for posting the trailer Patrick! It's great to see the Vita games that are coming out get some attention.

Woo! Checked the mail. Thankfully Amazon actually put this in a box because of how damn thick this box is. At least I only paid 1/2 the price of the JP for the NA Limited Edition.. lol. I hope all you guys with a Vita give this game a shot! It's a great ARPG that you can hop into and out of really quickly.

Now if the PS Vita TV will come out over here, this is one of the games being patched for the JP version of it. Would loooove to play this on my big screen. C'mon Sony! At least unlock the PS Store.

I think the next easily Quick Look-able Vita game will be Sorcery Saga as it should work out of the box with a VitaTV, but being a mystery dungeon roguelike it seems even less like Giant Bomb's thing than Ys (well, they did actually Quick Look Shiren the Wanderer back in the day).

@blacklagoon: Hopefully they'll release VitaTV over here and the patch should come shortly after. But Sorcery Saga seems a little too 'cute' for them to play, if you get what I mean. But it'll be nice to have some prospect of Vita Quick Looks in the future.

The Shiren the Wanderer Quick Look is still probably one of my favorite Quick Looks that they've ever done. It's what got me to finally try the series, too.

@yadilie: Just got mine as well from Amazon. I've read some stories about Amazon packaging Collector's Editions of games not very well and them getting dinged up, so I was worried. But like you said, it comes in a fat box, so they didn't try putting it in a bubble mailer or anything like that, luckily.

Aw yes new Y's game. I don't know if I like this stopping the game play for a second for skill kills but the crazy boss fights appear to be there.

I've always thought about playing Ys games, but I've been wondering and this would influence if I would actually buy this or not: how good is the story? Are these games all gameplay with kinda lame stories? Or do they have great stories on top of good gameplay?

Glad to hear you guys got your CE's in boxes from Amazon. I order from Amazon quite a bit and they've been using those crappy bubble mailers a lot lately. I've definitely lost faith in their packing methods. I didn't trust that they'd ship this CE in a box, so I ended up getting it at my local GameStop this time. I would have preferred to give Amazon the business, but I couldn't take the chance.

@beard_of_zeus: Probably hit their weight limit for what they put in bubble wrappers. My Muramasa LE came in a bubble wrap even though it's pretty huge but it weighs absolutely nothing and subsequently was destroyed on one side. This box however, lol. Although I really dislike the NA boxes they use now for the Vita. And even the cover boxes for NA 3DS games. They're all flimsy and cheap as fuck. The JP Celceta box feels great and doesn't want to collapse in on itself. Even the PSP boxes were fine..

@kerse: The games were primarily gameplay based with stories just there to push you to the next boss but since Seven came out they've been trying to catch the Ys series up with their Eiyuu Densetsu series in terms of story. It'll never get that wordy but Seven and Celceta are pretty decently story based with lots of gameplay. It's a type of game series that people complain arn't made enough of for handhelds; a game you can play a short burst or maybe just sit down and put a couple hours into.

They're also gotten considerably longer. Ys 1 can be beaten in around 3 hours or so while Celceta is probably around a 20-25 hour without doing side missions and exploring for chests and such.

I see, would you say this is a good jumping in point to the series?

@kerse: Yeah. It'll be weird if you want to go play Origins or Oath if you like the Ys series as you'll be going from a radically different combat (3 party members to just Adol) but the stories are seperated from each other. Each game is its own adventure that Adol goes on. They might mention something from a previous time in a line or two but nothing more than a small nod.

Looks like a y's game with the stylings of a tales of game. Definitely interested.

@eminier: Hate myself for not picking up that used copy of Ys Ark PSP for 6 bucks.. I also really got to get a better job so I can just mass buy a huge box of JP version games of like all of Falcoms games, lol. Pretty jelly. Would love to get some of those Windows 7 boxes. So big..

@eminier: Hard to tell. Base version on NA version is 1.00. While my JP Celceta is 1.01 (don't think the VitaTV patch has come out yet in Japan.) so probably too late. Maybe a random patch later on? Because I think that patch not only helps with VitaTV but also does some performance improvements.

Ys the Foliage Ocean in Celceta will be receiving a new patch through PSN next week on 11/7.

This patch will update the touch controls and add in compatability with a wireless controller through the Vita TV. There will also be an update to the graphical processing of the game.

Guess it was released but still that bold and underlined section makes me think that we're either going to get that patch (meaning they'll throw in Vita TV with it as well) or we already have it. I would be a little ticked off if we didn't get an update that important regardless of anything else tacked on.

So ready for this! Ys Seven was one of my favorite surprises on the PSP and I'm ready for more.

@eminier: Guess that 1.02 didn't roll out with the game. Maybe Twitter XSeed to see if they have any plans to release it because it has a engine improvement attached to it..

I got my collector's edition from Amazon the other day. It came in a box with 2 deflated shipping bubbles, but there didn't appear to be any damage or anything. The soundtrack looks really nice, though once again there doesn't seem to be track from the PCE versions of Ys 1 and 2. Hopefully I'll get a chance to play this today, I really liked the combat in SEVEN.
