Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call Is Headed West

I'm so glad this is coming. I've wanted to buy the first one, but I heard this was coming out and decided I would like it better (FF9 is my jam and I want Garnet in my party) so I was bummed they didn't announce it was coming here.

I, apparently, am only in to FF spin-offs. I loved the first game despite knowing almost none of the characters or songs. I just hope they do the DLC differently this time out. Buying each song for $1 was a bit much.

I really, really liked the original.

It took me a second to realize they were describing the game on the bottom, watching/playing Theatrhythm just makes me ignore things.

I played so many hours of the first one and even bought some of the DLC. This one has at least double the content and I can't wait for a release date!

I remember when the guys made fun of the original when it was announced. Turned out to be one of the best 3DS games.

I'm a relatively new 3DS owner and have been eyeing the first Theatrhythm for awhile now. Guess I'll start eyeing this one instead.

The first one is easily one of my favorite games I've played in the last few years. My excitement for this is excessively high.

Different characters have different skills which either buff you in battle stages, field stages, or are attack/healing spells. If you are simply trying to finish a stage and not much more, their impact on game play is limited with only healing spells having much of an impact.

However, if you are trying to get certain item drops by going a certain distance in a field stage or killing a certain number of enemies/bosses in battle stages (including items that helps unlock more characters), they are a much bigger deal.

Woah, is that Ramza Beoulve at 1:05? Well shit, game, you had me "hello." Here's hoping their vaunted "221 songs" are actually on the cart and not locked behind DLC again.

Yeah, that falls in line with what I remember them saying. Is there anything else to the game? I'd imagine you unlock characters and whatnot, but how much does that effect the gameplay?

As a real rhythm game fan it is a shame they locked all the hard content in DLC or in the very high "chaos" section. The chaos mode had different beat maps compared to the regular version and were often harder than the ultimate versions. They were also the only beat maps that had the swipe notes that span, so you had to judge where they were going to be when they were ready to swipe.

The RPG type stuff was glossed over by most reviewers and called inconsequential but in the high end of chaos mode sometimes it was very important to build your characters skills and items in a specific way or you would be unable to do the damage required or get the speed required during the stages. Sure it wasn't the most in-depth thing but it was still extra value.

I really hope they don't force you to play everything on easy, then medium, in order to unlock the harder modes. It made me fall asleep trying to play the easy modes the first time round.

Loved the first one, will love this one :D Can't await getting my hands on it...

The down side was each song fit into one of three categories: battle, event, and field. Of the three, only battle songs had much in the way of replay as playing them on ultimate difficulty was really god damn hard. Field songs on the other hand were unfortunately obscenely easy.

New characters and new songs, I am looking forward to this.

Can't remember which reviews I read, but I could see their point at the time. I've never been big on rhythm games, so I didn't see the value in it, myself. It's great that there's a ton of music, though.

Dumped a ton of hours into the original. I could see getting this depending on how much they've added.

This game is already GotY for having Mystic Quest songs AND the ability to play as Benjamin in the game.

@mr_creeper Whoever told you there wasnt much to the first one was grossly uninformed. There was a bunch of songs and this one more than doubles the song list by including everyone from the first one and adding a bunch more

@ds23: Project Diva is a special case in that it is a very niche game, Final Fantasy, while not nearly as big here as it is in Japan, is still well known even to people who arent into video games.

The first game was kind of the reason I bought a 3DS.

The first game got me my single streetpass from all my ten or so games. I brought it to a games convention.

Is there any reason for me to buy the previous one now? Are the old songs in the new one?

Hmmmm I dunno looks like the exact same game with different songs. The first game was kind of a mildly fun trifle but I get more from looking up the songs I like in YouTube than playing this. I think I'll pass the second time around.
