Payday was a surprisingly fun game. Never thought I'd pour 60 hours into that game, but I did. At the end of the day, Payday 1 was just an elaborate horde mode, but everything about it was just so intense. I think that game does regenerating health very well.

It's one of those games where it's more fun to play on harder difficulties because it makes peaking your head out into the firefight very dangerous.

yeah really, they're actually doing quite a lot to make sure it isn't the exact same game, with plenty of missions and objectives, a better class system, loot (like an rpg, not just because you're robbing stuff).

Also coming to 360, FACT CHECKING.

This is old news and also, it's coming out for 360 and it's a retail game.

Can't wait.

Well he did review the first Payday, so I imagine he'd be reviewing this one.

Starbreeze and one of the dudes on BF3 are helping Overkill make this game so I imagine the guns will sound and feel appropriately "Heat"-like.

Hm. Not a fan of executing the random workers and bank-goers. I mean. That's sort of not how any of the big heists in movies (what I assume this game is trying to emulate) work. Or perhaps a mechanic is in the game that discourages that behavior? I don't know. Seems like blowing away a bunch of people is exactly how not to handle a heist - real or fictional.

Looks fun, never had the chance to play the first game. Only gripe from this trailer would be that the A.I. seems very lacking but I still have some hopes as it's merely a trailer.

In the first PayDay you were verbally admonished by your radio guy for every civ kill, you were docked money (acts as experience, penalty goes up severely with difficulty) when completing the mission and you needed civs as hostages (act as extra lives). Also there were achievements/challenges (money bonuses) for clearing missions on Hard or above without killing any civs by accident.

EDIT: Oh, right, also every civ kill adds 10 seconds to the delay before your friends can trade a hostage for reviving you. The default delay is 5 seconds.

That's what I thought it was like. It's kind of weird then how nonchalant that guy is about killing the civilian in the trailer. Oh well, as we all know, trailers are rarely representative of the final product, and I'm not even talking about just video games here.

Music by Simon Viklund, all up in this joint! I'm super excited for this, looks like they'll be allowing for more stealth approaches.

The first Payday was a surprisingly cool little game. It's tons of fun with friends and the dynamic missions were a really nice touch. It looks like they've fixed up a lot of the niggling issues I had with the first game (gun sounds, anyone?).

It's sad when I can tell by the title/lede that Alex is writing the news post because it's chock full of snark and cynicism. Come on man, lighten up a little.

I ended up just impulse buying the first game and DLC on PC today, hoping there are still some people playing since I love the concept.

Actually, the interesting thing in the trailer is that it looks like he wounded the civilian, not killed him, which seems to be a new mechanic. Shooting a civilian anywhere in the first game was insta-kill, but it looks like you can wound them by shooting them in the leg, which would be extremely useful. There is one mission in the first game where controlling the civilians and making sure they stayed down was crucial. If anyone got away, they would alert the cops. It's possible that crippling a civilian could incur a penalty, but I imagine maybe less so than killing them.

And in the first payday, you can kill bank guards without penalty since they usually shoot first anyways. But shouting down guards after wounding them causes them to surrender, so it's more ideal to force guards to surrender and cuff themselves as an extra hostage instead of killing them. You can also do the same to cops, but only if they don't have backup.

Anyways, if you're looking for a realistic heist game, you may be disappointed in the fact that you have to mow down a small army's worth of cops for several minutes. At least in Payday 1. Looks like they made stealth much more viable in this one as indicated by the trailer.

Apparently?

This has been known about for a LOOOOOOOOOONG while now. Are people seriously just now hearing about it?

The fact that there is customization as well as stealth options makes me giddy as fuck for this game!

I am ridiculously excited about this. Already have the deluxe edition prepurchased on Steam.

The amount of content they added to the first game over time was nuts, and letting people join the DLC maps regardless of whether or not they owned the DLC is always welcome.

Sure, I could see being excited to play this if they refine the ideas the first game had and execute the mechanics with a tad less stiffness.

The first game was amazing fun. I was addicted to it for a long time. It was a shame it only had a few maps or heists and after a while it started to get too repetitive. But damn those were some intense heists. The game was hard as hell and sometimes really unfair with what it threw at you at the worst times. I am getting the sequel on day 1!

this is great news. i always thought Payday had some good stuff going for it and was generally fun to play. its the perfect game for a sequel, if you ask me. some great ideas, that need a bit more hammering and polish.

This has been known for awhile now. It's not a big deal- it's no deal at all, really- but just once I'd like an Alex headline that doesn't sound smarmy as hell.
