There's a New Shadow of Mordor Story Trailer and--Hey! Is That Gollum?

Hafta admit, the intensity of the violence in this trailer wasn't as high as I was expecting. Also, this trailer was... kind of a mess. Still curious in seeing how this game shapes up, though.

That was a pretty hefty story spoiler in this seemingly Gollum centric trailer.

I'm gonna second this in order to warn others against watching this trailer. If your knowledge of LotR comes from just the movies then it's probably not a big deal. But fans of the book, be warned that it contains a MASSIVE SPOILER regarding the identity of the wraith possessing the main character.

Will pick this up, what with DA3 being delayed.

Ok, sure, the depiction of Gollum in the Peter Jackson movies was fantastic, but putting him in this seems to be the same thing that has plagued all the Star Wars games - that every main character from the movies somehow must be represented or have a substitute in everything set in that universe (such as the Han Solo archetype), no matter how far away it is from the events of the main story time wise and geographically.

Holy shit, this just shot way up in my list of games I want to get.

Also yeah, this trailer is hardly about Gollum.

I wonder how much less enjoyable this game will be for people who aren't really familiar with any of the LoTR lore. From the little I've seen, the mechanics and gameplay look interesting, but I haven't seen a ton of the game shown yet.

Woah so maybe I'm wrong, but 'your ghost friend created the rings' seems like a pretty key story moment that you shouldn't reveal months before the games release?

Throughout the game you are working with 'your ghost friend' so that reveal is probably going to be in the first two cut scenes, so not such a big deal.

Who was the Han Solo archetype in the prequels? (I'm not trying to prove a point I honestly dont remember) Also this is basicly 'Arkham Middle Earth' so they mareswell just throw in as many cameos as they can, it's not like it matters.

Edit: Sorry missed the "games" part. Cant say i've played many that werent KOTOR but Mission is the only character I can think of that fills the Han Solo criteria, and she was pretty unique.

Main, for people who know Tolkien lore, the reveal of the identity of the wraith is fucking nuts.

For reals. Getting real excited for this game. Also I'm gonna assume you find that out real early in the game otherwise that's a real shitty thing to spoil in the trailer.

On the other hand though, they need to show fans of the series that this isn't just some half-assed 'cameo-time!'-Arkham-knock-off coated with a thin layer of LOTR characters to make use of the hype for the last Hobbit movie. Monolith is an amazing, very, VERY underappriciated company so there was never any doubt in my mind that this game would be interesting, but for LOTR-fans I think this reveal is a smart move.

This one has got me seriously thinking about the new consoles. At least considering my options now... of which, there are plenty.

This game has Steam Sales written all over it.

Well, they edited the LotR wiki on that character pretty fast. I'm excited. And this game is looking more interesting with how they play with the LotR characters and events.

Also, this is some nerdy lore at play.

It will tide me over until Inquisition I suppose.

Is this game cannon with the rest of Lord Of The Rings?

I feels kind of fan-fictioney to me.

@drpeatore: Anything not in the books by Tolkien is non-canon. Looks like they're taking a random smattering of Tolkien's ideas and mixing it in with Jackson's look and making a pretty speculative but interesting story. Making Celebrimbor the wraith character makes me a whole lot more excited.

I'm really really hopeful for this game, I hoped it doesn't let me down the way War in the North did.

Hey, this game still looks pretty good. Never was too big on Lord of the Rings, but this seems like it'd be fun to play and the new story elements in this trailer adds to that.

And, once again, WB shots themselves with revealing plot twists in promotional trailers (like they did with Batman Origins).

Oh... well, the game looks amazing, though.
