I feel like I'm buying the "Video Settings" game not Crysis 2.

So this patch makes the game less tedious and annoying right?

It will fix things like the combat not being fun, and it being preferable just to stealth past it?

@Alex_S: Well, you can always go to GamersGate and buy it, or Impulse? or D2D? Or even EA's own store? There is alternatives to Steam after all, where gamersgate is the def best one. :p

Meh, not impressed....A bunch of BS im not even going to notice unless I stand still and stop playing the game altogether.   Christ I couldnt even see the difference in the comparisons.  DX9 dark, DX11 bright....looked like comparing PS3 to Xbox with their contrasts always being different.

i got the patch, hi-res textures pack and the DX11 ultra update today. it's amazing. being surrounded by those awesome bricks is actually kind of rough for my AMD 6990. they raised the recommended spec for dx11+hi-res and i exceed them all but it still stutters sometimes at 1920x1200. im going to upload a few pictures to the crysis 2 page. everyone should check them out. it's insane how good this game looks now.

I installed this and the high res pack earlier today. Makes the game look  nicer. Everything seems less flat (hurray for tesselation) and the water looks amazing. Overall, very nice upgrade. A hit on performance thought but it's still very playable on my machine with every single eye candy option turned on. My GPU is a GTX 570  at stock speeds and my CPU is an i7 920 overclocked to 3.5 ghz.

I've seen and heard a lot of comments about the gameplay simply following the tropes of the FPS genre, and that's true to a certain extent. But that's not the point of Crysis, just like it wasn't the point of Doom 3. These are advertisements for the engine, and I'd say CryEngine 3 sells itself very well. Crysis 2 on the Xbox 360 is the best looking game I've played, and yet they've managed to make it look ten times better on PC, particularly with these updates.

This is exactly what we need to push consoles into the next generation, and it doesn't matter if you are strictly a PC gamer; it's still a very good thing. Because technology will always advance on the PC, consoles will make a sudden leap to attain equal footing, development will continue on PC beyond the current console capabilities, and the cycle repeats. And all in the name of bringing us better and better looking games. :)

Wow this is fucking retarded. I's not support it's laziness; the game should have been like this at release.
Also, it would help if crysis 2 was like it's predecessor; a good game.

Nvidia sponsored? Still DX11 in crysis mode for the AMD guys?

Actually what I read about this is, that, without Nvidia, there would have not been a DX11 Patch. EA denied funding any further develepment on the PC. So Nvidia stepped in just like they did with Crysis 1, that's also the reason why we see the Nvidia Logo in the trailer.

So, I personally, see that as a good reason why it took some time and I will not bash CryTek for it. Maybe some of you should also keep it down a bit. ;)

EA didn't want to fund the stuff they wanted to do with the graphics. NVIDIA did, but not until after launch. So that's basically why it happened like this.

Yeah it seemed Crysis was never a good or intesresting or even fun game.I never hear anyone going "Hey man Crysis is such a fun/good/interesting game you should try it out. It's always "Dude these graphics are dee shiiiit!" "Oh my gawd so beautiful!" While I agree about the graphics it really shows it is all it has to offer.

I guess if you spruce up a sub par product enough or focus on only one aspect enough people will only foucs/mention that aspect and let the others slide.

Ah, that explains a lot. I wondered how involved nVidia had been. Still, it all seems to have paid off handsomely - Crysis2 on Pc now looks stunning (I'm running it with a GTX460 1GB). I am speechless at just how gorgeous they made the game look. Once again, Crysis takes its place at the top of the PC table as far as visuals are concerned. It took Crytek a while, and maybe it should have been there from the start, but they finally made it. Tomorrow we get the Level Editor, too! Yay!

You're just ignorant.  Crysis offered sandbox gameplay possibilities other FPS could only dream of having.

When I play games the most important thing for me is gameplay, and Crysis was more fun than the 2nd. Crysis 2 was so linear and scripted that this doesn't do anything to improve the game.

I find this funny, it's not like Creative Assembly made a big deal out of launching the DX11 support for Shogun 2 a few months after release. Granted they did advertise the game as having it right out the box.

Nvidia likely wanted it as part of their deal to pay for the extra work. It's basically them sponsoring the advancement of their field. At the end of the day it's advertisement, but of course it's also in their interest to drive up the need for better graphics hardware. Right now there's just not as much out there as there was even 3-4 years ago that pushes GPU sales.

@ShoddyGo: honestly I thought the first game was pretty much an unplayable tech demo. I had the hardware to run it, but the game was just so buggy and boring. The new one is merely a good looking COD clone with powers. At least now it it's a really good looking COD clone with powers.
