Should of been a new IP, I just want a game set in the old times without "new email" and all the other HUD elements popping up, I always turn that off in the AC games.

Looks very pretty though, will pick it up on the next gen Xbox if out in time.

This looks good location-wise and story-wise for it´s own. But I hate what they do with the AC-francise. They should progress in the original storyline.

What in the fuck...? Since when did the general consensus become that Assassin's Creed is a bad game series or has bad stories? From everyone I've encountered they were only disappointed when they thought the series was done. When I framed the ending as another cliffhanger ala AC2 everyone I've talked to was like "oh shit... that could be real cool!" People are becoming really jaded... all these comments about how if this wasn't called Assassin's Creed,it would somehow be better, baffles me. A good game has the potential to be a good game regardless of its name...

The issue is a narrative one. So it really all depends on what they do it with it from that stand point. Games aren't what they used to be. Not just because of what we expect as gamers but also because of what we are delivered. Far Cry 3 was super fun to play but even the Giant Bomb crew harped on the fact that the narrative could of been so much more. Assassins Creed has become a series like that. I loved AC 2 and Brotherhood, the gameplay was solid and precise the side quests and colletibles added both narrative and creative game elements to the world that enriched my experience. But when Revelations came out I started to notice a trend, one that was continued in AC 3.

The trend became a check box of things needed to continue this game series with very little room left for creativity or innovation. Collectibles became less a thing to enrich the game world and experience and more excuses to continue doing things in your game. Ala hunting in AC 3. The game got added weapons and things to do, but all of it became meaningless. Again added only as filler to try and make the game feel more meaty. It is things like this why indy games get heralded by so many of the community. The big games like this have become so targeted at wider audiences they refuse to force the gamer to do anything. Make the side quests and collectibles so appealing and enjoyable that I want to get distracted from the main game to do them. Make the game get harder as I go to the point that I NEED to get your upgrades. You shouldn't be able to run though the main game with the tomohawk and not worry about a single thing. Sadly in AC 3, you can.

This is where narrative becomes super important. The core concept of AC are beaten to the ground. I've killed a million dudes, I've done x amount of stealth missions and killed various targets. I've run, I've jumped, I've climbed. Is it still fun? Sure, but these games are coming out once a year. I've felt like I've had my fix of the game play of that series filled up. If your going to pump this out once a year I need to feel like what I"m playing has purpose. They chose to try to fill some type of narrative element when they had big hopes and aspirations with it in AC 1 2 and Brotherhood. 3 left a sour taste in my mouth and almost everyones with how it wrapped up the outside perspective from a narrative stand point.

If Black Flag ends up being just an excuse to use the animus, I"ll groan and likely play it but then your sequel to a franchise that feels overplayed and overused that has been battered down loses a key element to help the game feel less repetitive mechanically speaking. At which point what I think this games success and how well it plays is all going to come down to structure, execution and creativity with what you actually do. AC 3 was awful at this. Some of the missions the game had you do were downright...bad. Who wants to run on horseback and try to avoid being spotted for a fail state to run and knock on a bunch of doors from side village to side village for 20 minutes? Yay? The developers need to get more creative and actually take a vested interest in spicing up what leads you to killing and running and jumping and all that jazz. Thankfully the boat sequences from AC 3 were pretty unique and this looks to build on that by allowing you to go all over the place. I have hopes that this can pan out to be a great game, but given the state of the franchise I'll be cautiously optimistic.

Still kinda baffled that this is labeled as AC4. Since it features a relative of the protagonist in AC3, it would make sense to leave it as a side game, a la AC brotherhood or Revelations. They should have saved the 4 for the next big installment. They're diluting the brand IMO. Either way, it looks promising, and I'll likely get it because I'll need games to play on my ps4. :)

It just bums me out that it has anything to do with the shitty story that is Assassins Creed.

Does this story have to do with lame sci-fi alien shit? Cause if so I am far less interested. I'll take the regular pirate ass pirate game thank you very much.

This game looks cool, but do they have to be trying to sell preorders already? Preordering a game is dumb, preordering a game based off of one trailer is borderline mentally handicapped.

i as a mentally handicapped person am offended that you'd think where all that stupid... okey fine i'm not mad :P and i get your point!

The pirateiness was pretty staggering but, in a good way. I wish this game wasn't saddled with the Assassins Creed fiction and was just pirates being pirates. But, I suppose, I take my sea dogs weres I can.

I saw the trailer on Gamespot, and I am officially excited for this. I don't think I have ever played a game where you are both a pirate and an assassin. I own every Assassins Creed game in the series, and Part 3 was the only game I was disappointed in. I hope this will be better than the last game.

I plan to pre-order Assassins Creed 4 next month.

this looks pretty rad in terms of setting, etc. I'm still working my way through ACIII but I feel like the combat is getting pretty clunky- maybe its because I'm playing the WiiU version and its the gamepad to blame. I don't know. In any event I'd like to see them revamp the combat system a bit and maybe add more "adventurey" type quests that don't just involve transporting people or picking fights or eluding gaurds.

I was actually interested in this when I read about it, but now when I see the trailer that pretty much went down the drain. I see again the same design, animations, combat and I fear it's just gonna be more of the same gameplay with a carribean setting. Except I think it's gonna be more assassins creed than pirate game.

That's absolutely not what I was hoping when I read the first news about this. Shouldn't have had my hopes up I guess, at the rate at which they shit out these games you can't expect much changes and improvements.

I wish they actually HAD went down the wooden legs and parrots route, with a classic pirate visual style. Now they seem to be already proud of not straying too much from the cookie cutter AC style, so that's not a good sign.

I'm disappointed Peter Serafinowiczisn't narrating this after learning he lent his voice for Assassin's Creed III marketing.

This should have been its own IP yet set in the Assassins Creed universe, which I understand this will probably be. Just dont call it assassins creed. Pirates and Assassins are two completely contradictory career paths.

We're gonna go between the ports of Havana and Kingston? Do they know that Cuba and Jamaica are right next to each other in the Caribbean?

I'm just bitter that yet another game could have had my home country of Trinidad and Tobago in it, and they messed up yet again.

Warning, opinions below. I like AC for the story. Yes, the story. It was friggin cool being a badass assassin, sneaking around and hidden-blading dudes, but what made me play was that I was moving the story along. I was deep in it, a harbinger of historical change and all that. Now it feels like only an action game, not that immersive experience.

Actually why is this an AC game

I thought they went off the rails with 2 and drove the setting into the shitter, then I was slightly into 3 with the setting change and now I'm fully fucking on board for the first time since 2. There simply aren't enough games in this setting, let alone ones worth a damn. I also loved the boat missions in 3, so I'm hyped.

Damn this looks so good. Fuck the haters. You saw it said Assassins Creed, if you're automatically going to say then that it sucks, save your time and effort and don't even watch the video or comment. So lame.

@ghostiet said:

God dammit, I hope you can ditch the hood in favor of a sick, beaked tricorn.

I think it's a pretty safe bet there will be a pirate ass alternate costume considering that they had some different get ups in AC III (rather than just the hood) and there indeed was already a outfit for Connor with that style of hat when he was on the boat.

@vuud said:

Yeah, because a smart horse owner kills his horse when it's just had it's biggest success. You should race horses, you seem to get how this works.

I kinda wish THIS was AC3. Would've been the next logical step in the Desmond Legacy after Ezio.

One of the reasons i had trouble getting into AC3's story was there seemed to be a whole block of interesting events that happened before the game(like how did Haytham join the Templars or why did Achilles retire as an Assassin?).

AC games have had me since the beginning, sure AC1 fell short on the gameplay side but I still thought it was okay, simply as a lifetime gamer enjoying my imagination of what would come next from what was produced back then!

AC1 for me was like J.J. Abrams' box that his dad gave him. It's contents is more interesting when you're wondering what's inside it than what actually is inside. This is every game I play. I mean even crappy games have great ideas and pearls of wisdom in them, unfortunately they get largely hidden by a big pile of shit around and on top of them.

No, I'm definitely looking forward to some more AC. I may hold off for prices to go down and some more time to pass between AC3 and this one, AC4, but I'll definitely play this!

I can't seem to ever not get excited for an Assassin's Creed game. They always get me. AC3 was disappointing in a lot of ways, but still, can't wait.
