This Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate Trailer Goes Heavy on the Story

As always, the lack of 3D kills the mood some... too bad these teasers can't just show up directly on the 3DS itself.

That felt like a rather one-sided conversation. Probably not the optimal scene to show on a trailer, but hey, DRACULA.

Great game, bad trailer?

All those sparks coming off the 3DS. Oh no, it's on fire!

The last stage is just going to be on the Maury Povich set.

This looks pretty bad.

So the characters react to things not on the screen that are never shown? That's some great "tell, don't show" storytelling.

I just tried the demo and I enjoyed it but the jump feels a bit off.

I'm convinced I'll enjoy it so I'll probably grab it at launch.

Now to try the Monster Hunter Demo.

Is there even any Zobek in this game?

Alex is totally right about the daddy issues thing, but I find it not bothering me. I think it's because of the Scottish accent and adult voice. Rather than an angsty anime teen looking for his daddy, it more strikes me as a European family honor type issue. Which are different ways of approaching the same thing... but one of those has been done to death in games and one hasn't so much yet. My judgement is that this is acceptable.

Also: Darn, the art in these games continues to be awesome! The combination of the super great art direction of Lords of Shadow and the semi-cel shaded filter they're rocking to keep things looking okay on the 3DS seems like a really good fit. While most 3DS footage looks wretched off of the 3DS screen, this looked pretty good! I imagine then it will look great actually on the hardware.

This certainly wins the award for worst voice acting in a videogame ever!

the color palette of the next-generation in video-games looks to be, blue, red, and grey.

@sharkman: Do you see that as a good thing? I kinda dig it - though if I had my way we would go all Deus Ex and make everything black and gold :) God that was striking.

Is it just me or did it feel like half of the video was missing, like they meant to splice in a cut away to some other video, of perhaps what he might have been seeing, or something. I dont know... Power of the 3ds.

Actually, I dig the cell-shaded art style, but I don't know that I'll play it.

Had I a 3DS, I would probably pick this up. I kind of dig the mythology of the Lords of Shadow take on Castlevania.

I really hope this game is good. It looks great, but something makes me think it could just end up being lackluster (kind of like the original Lords of Shadow).

Everything I see of this looks exactly the opposite of what I want from a handheld Castlevania game. I don't think it looks very good at all.

Reallllly not liking the look of this game.. reminds me of some PSP games that made obvious the system wasn't quite a portable PS2.

This game looks really weird. I liked the visual style of the cut scene though, not so much anything else from this trailer.

@49th: What do you want from a handheld Castlevania game, and in what ways does this game look to transgress against those principles? Do you think that the game looks like it's doing what it does badly, or is it more that it's doing something that you don't want it to be doing? Or do you think that it's doing something you don't want it to be doing and doing it badly?

Pretty much, cept Dracula (Gabriel) is Simon's grandfather (in this universe) and Trevor's father. Trevor is rumored to become Alucard (another playable character) and there's a whole daddy issues plot within that too.

That's right everybody multiple daddy issue plot lines running together within one game! Can you handle it? Get ready to have your ass thrown in a volcano! No wait, that's a different multi daddy issue long running game series I'm thinking of.

Just finished the demo - I really can't say I enjoyed what I played.

Was that a 60 fps video of a 30 fps 3DS game? Cool.

Liked the style of the cut-scenes, but weird choice for a trailer.

That guy would be a fantastic ventriloquist.

Eager to see how it turns out, I really enjoyed Castlevania: Lords of Shadow.

That was some of the stiffest voice acting I've heard in a long time.

I do not think this looks any good, even if I like the idea of a reimagining. Oh well there's apparently a demo out so I should try that I suppose.

I played the demo yesterday and it's more Lords of Shadow in 2D on a handheld than an Igavania. Not very interesting. The graphics were pretty impressive and I liked the 3D effect, but other than that not very exciting at all. I'll probably pick it up for cheap. I don't except this game to get a lot of appreciation from journalists, either.

I just finished Lords of Shadow like a week ago and I have NO IDEA what is going on in that trailer. Dude's looking for his father I guess...
