DAT CITY

This was a cool trailer. Unfortunately though, I think that giant building collapsing will somehow not damage surrounding buildings when it falls.

I hate that I have to wait until next year to get my mitts on this. CURSES

Pre-Order Now

Before it's too Late!

is just awful

Posted by SharkMan

too late to pre-order? that doesn't even make sense.

Posted by jozzy

I started playing SimCity 4 again this weekend, used it to "teach" my kids some basic logic about the lay-out of towns. That game is still tons of fun and doesn't look that bad for a 2003 release!

I know. I was kind of confused when hearing that line.

Posted by Nephrahim

It does look really good. The disasters are even more impressive considering how each individual sim is being monitored.

All these curved roads in a Sim city still freaks me out though.

Pre order now, before the impending disasters detailed in this video.

Did you really think they meant "too late to preorder" considering the time left until release?

I CAN'T WANT YOU ANY MORE, SIM CITY.

Posted by Scotto

I hate when I see awesome trailers for games I CAN'T HAVE FOR A LONG TIME FUCK YOU FUCK YOU FUCKKKK YOUUUUUU.

*ahem*

Looks good. Can't wait to play it.

As Mayor I pledge to cut all Police and Fire department funding.

Posted by crusader8463

This was the game that made me break my stance on never installing Origin. I'm sure I will feel dirty every time I play it too.

Posted by cikame

Hey pc gamer, what do you think about this interesting new release in a beloved strategy franchise?
"best value"

nice.

Posted by Sphinx

I want it so bad I'm starting to have dreams about it.

Posted by cloudymusic

I wish this game were out already. :(

Posted by steelerzfan101

Wow, a UFO looks like it is probably going to be hard to deal with!

Posted by paulwade1984

What if the disaster destroys your hospital, fire station and police station?

Posted by Death_Burnout

There's still something about this that looks a little 'off' to me.

Edited by Lurkero

If the people wanted a fire department they should have paid all their taxes.

It will be too late to preorder when the game is released. Not sure why that needed to be in the trailer though.

Mayor refuses to comment on the existence of genocidal robots. The llama is a quadruped. News at 11.

As a citizen of Chicago, that meteor strike was a big :( though, I am very excited for this game.

Disasters were only fun in previous games because you could build up your city, blow it to hell, reload and carry on. Great stress reliver.

The new Sim City is persistant, always online. There is no saving and rolling back your city.

So I'm going to spend hours and hours working on my megacity only to have aliens destroy it so i can ... start all over?

I'll pass on this one, this online persistant crap didn't work for Cities XL either.

Posted by Giantstalker

This game looks awful when the disasters destroy buildings... kind of jarring, actually.

Posted by Undeadpool

I think I've been playing too much XCOM cause seeing that UFO made me immediately think "Scramble interceptor, prep skyranger to transport squad to crash site..."

Posted by RooBoys

Great trailer!

Posted by DJJoeJoe

@sicjake: I agree that having disasters is lame if you can't just reload the game to a previous state assuming things are similar to the old games, or control the disasters in any way. I assume you could select whether you want disasters when you start a game though, or that most of these don't destroy your city. Most of these look like they'd damage a portion of your city, easily repairable via the methods mentioned inside this very video. I also assume they will be balanced differently than previously, cause this is a new game, and it won't be close to a game over level of destruction if they are truly out of your control and you truly have no options to save your city as you suggest by your comments.

Saying you're going to pass on something based on something like this is hilarious, kudos for being one of those internet stereotypes for shitty online gamers who expect everything and think their word online means something.

Posted by jayspadez

i loved the original in elementary school, cant wait to go back

Posted by Funkydupe

Can I build cities under the ground, under water or have anti-air turrets placed everywhere?

Posted by sicjake

@DJJoeJoe:

You read to much into my post and jump down my throat, yet another internet stereotype, welcome brother.

The disasters is one of several reasons why I'll pass on this game, not the only one. I will say the persistant online bit is a big negative for me tho yes.

Does my single opinion matter? Will EA notice I haven't bought a single of their games since Origin? Nope! Regardless it's the only voice as a gamer I have, my wallet.

Posted by IcarusFoundYou

The fact that it uses Origin and is going to probably have microtransactions coming out the ports is stopping me from buying this game.

Posted by DJJoeJoe

@IcarusFoundYou: Did you buy Mass Effect 3? If you did and were able to stop yourself from buying the random loot chests you should be fine anywhere else there is micro transactions The only time these things should garner legitimate concern is when they directly impact gameplay, and are impeding fun. Most of the time they are just additive junk that doesn't actually do anything other than give slight bonuses for real world cash, the only issue with that is it 'may' tempt you to spend that cash one night when you haven't slept much and are vulnerable. Then the self hate begins!

@sicjake: I agree, apologies. I see so much awesome stuff in Sim City so far though, even with the worst case with the disasters I think I'd still really enjoy the game, if anything it will force me to play a game how I normally don't, and live with the mistakes I make as I play on (I reload way too frequently in XCOM and basically any game that allows it.) I am the internet stereotype that wants everyone to play and love all video games, and forget all the weird BS surrounding them (marketing etc).

I don't get it, all these disasters were already implemented when I played Simcity 3000 in 1999. They're still using the exact same selling points in their trailers 13 years later?

Posted by CircleNine

@Giantstalker: The skyscraper had like a total of 3 parts to it that just kind of clunked to the ground.

Posted by andrew2696

The before it's too late part reminds me of the old PSA things they're evoking. But I'm probably an idiot.

Because if the only people they sold the game to were people who played the game 13 years ago the game would fucking flop?

Because the game is clearly finished months before it's scheduled release...

Who remembers Sim Town, it was half way between Sim City and The Sims before the Sims even happened. Random PC Game?
