This New SimCity Trailer Is a Total Disaster

The city burned. The smoke choked the skies while the people screamed for help that would never come, all because this stupid jerk of a mayor forgot to build a fire department.

Haha - that may affect the ESRB rating a bit. Sorry kids - the dudes from Talibanistan are here. Earmuffs (and eyemuffs I guess...) for now.

UFOs are a metaphor for that. They have basically the same role while preserving the political correctness.

I would like to see more granularity when defining taxes, for instance havin a Tobix tax and similar options, basically anything that is an open debate now in politics, so that you can try both options in the game and see the consequences in this virtual world. Even if they are not completely realistic they can get to be quite pedagogical, IMHO.

That would make this game deep and epic because I do also fear this:

Well i wouldnt be getting my hopes up for an 4 block skyscraper in the finished product either.

This was the game that made me break my stance on never installing Origin. I'm sure I will feel dirty every time I play it too.

Seriously you Steam fanboys are funny. Origin like any other store is just a way to get my games. I have all the games launch files on the desktop anyway so steam is just as annoying as Origin. Just another thing I have to launch to play games, It was way better when you didn't have to launch anything other than the game to play it...

Seriously you Steam haters are funny. Just because I don't want to have to make and remember another dam log in, juggle another online store that divides my collection of games, and need to have ANOTHER dam program installed on my PC just to play my games makes me a Steam fanboy? I'm fine with having all my games linked to one main account as it makes it so much easier having it all stored in one place and I never need to worry about losing CD keys or fumbling with disks to install and play games again. I don't want to have to start trying to log in and search through a dozen different stores to try and install my games and that's all Origin does. There is no need for it beyond EA being greedy and not allowing their games on Steam. They have no problem with it on other stores but they single out Steam because it's the biggest.

Actually it's because Steam wanted a cut of the DLC stupid I know. But I'm not missing out on great games just because I have to install another program to get them, people pretend that they will boycott stuff like Origin but as soon as a good game comes out they will use it anyway. I for one will be playing Most Wanted and Sim City plus all the games on Steam aswell and if Ubisoft stops using steam I will buy AC3 though their store too. To me all that matters is when I am in the game and playing it. Buying off Steam or Origin takes the same amount of effort and competition never hurt anyone.

I don't understand the appeal of having random events in your game that destroy everything you've built up until that point. That would only make me want to quit the game out of frustration.

Disasters were only fun in previous games because you could build up your city, blow it to hell, reload and carry on. Great stress reliver.

The new Sim City is persistant, always online. There is no saving and rolling back your city.

So I'm going to spend hours and hours working on my megacity only to have aliens destroy it so i can ... start all over?

I'll pass on this one, this online persistant crap didn't work for Cities XL either.

THANK YOU for being the first one to point this out, so I didn't have to. These disasters looks fun and all, but what is the point without being about to revert your city to its former state? Kinda defeats the purpose of a Simity game altogether, doesn't it?

@Bourbon_Warrior: Oh give the drama a rest. That person said nothing about comparing it to Steam, so why would you ignorantly assume they were saying Steam is better? I'm sure most PC gamers that don't like wasting the time and system resources to use annoying 3rd party programs in order to use otherwise unrelated games can all agree we'd rather not use any of this rubbish. And fortunately, if you look around, there are always ways around playing games like Skyrim which you legally purchased without Steam bogging it down, as well as getting around cloud saves with games like Assassin's Creed 2, all without a hitch, and typically the games even run smoother. I'm confident someone will find a way to play Simcity offline within a few months of its release as well, without needing silly cloud saves, and without even having to install Origin. And I intend on purchasing this game as soon as I hear we can play this game as it was meant to be played.

I don't get it, all these disasters were already implemented when I played Simcity 3000 in 1999. They're still using the exact same selling points in their trailers 13 years later?

Because if the only people they sold the game to were people who played the game 13 years ago the game would fucking flop?

@IcarusFoundYou: Did you buy Mass Effect 3? If you did and were able to stop yourself from buying the random loot chests you should be fine anywhere else there is micro transactions The only time these things should garner legitimate concern is when they directly impact gameplay, and are impeding fun. Most of the time they are just additive junk that doesn't actually do anything other than give slight bonuses for real world cash, the only issue with that is it 'may' tempt you to spend that cash one night when you haven't slept much and are vulnerable. Then the self hate begins!

@sicjake: I agree, apologies. I see so much awesome stuff in Sim City so far though, even with the worst case with the disasters I think I'd still really enjoy the game, if anything it will force me to play a game how I normally don't, and live with the mistakes I make as I play on (I reload way too frequently in XCOM and basically any game that allows it.) I am the internet stereotype that wants everyone to play and love all video games, and forget all the weird BS surrounding them (marketing etc).

The fact that it uses Origin and is going to probably have microtransactions coming out the ports is stopping me from buying this game.

@DJJoeJoe:

You read to much into my post and jump down my throat, yet another internet stereotype, welcome brother.

The disasters is one of several reasons why I'll pass on this game, not the only one. I will say the persistant online bit is a big negative for me tho yes.

Does my single opinion matter? Will EA notice I haven't bought a single of their games since Origin? Nope! Regardless it's the only voice as a gamer I have, my wallet.

@sicjake: I agree that having disasters is lame if you can't just reload the game to a previous state assuming things are similar to the old games, or control the disasters in any way. I assume you could select whether you want disasters when you start a game though, or that most of these don't destroy your city. Most of these look like they'd damage a portion of your city, easily repairable via the methods mentioned inside this very video. I also assume they will be balanced differently than previously, cause this is a new game, and it won't be close to a game over level of destruction if they are truly out of your control and you truly have no options to save your city as you suggest by your comments.

Saying you're going to pass on something based on something like this is hilarious, kudos for being one of those internet stereotypes for shitty online gamers who expect everything and think their word online means something.
