When did video game Devs become used car salesmen?

Posted by Thunderducky

I'd much rather have the devs talk about the game than many other forms of marketing that publishers seem to like

Posted by xite

Can't say I'm not psyched for this!

I love the idea of building my own top secret underground base. Very cool!

Looks great. Very interested in this.

Gimme this game!

Reminds me of Evil Genius in that you design your own lair.

GET OUT!
Posted by Kosikutioner

Is this a full $60 ($50 PC) release? I never really had thought about it until now, but I had assumed pricier XBLA.

I don't know if it's good or bad if I am wrong.

You just had to ruin it, didn't you?

@Rapid: Dunno about you, but Evil Genius reminds me of XCOM in that you design your own lair.

I can't freaking wait for this. I hope the big budget one turns out alright to keep the series going, but I'm thrilled this is being made.

You'd rather just see a trailer with terrible dubstep or nu-metal then? Thought not. It's not a bad thing when developers update players on how their game is coming together.

sometimes i get more enjoyment out of listening to devs talk about their game then i ever do playing it

Posted by RVonE

I like that theme music.

Posted by ApocalypseLater

Almost everything about this game is right up my alley. It's crazy to me that it took the 2K live stream during PAX east for me to even consider this game.

Posted by Viking_Funeral

G'damn, I can't wait for this game.

No that's exactly what that boobhead wants.

Posted by HerbieBug

dev on camera talking about game is worst style of trailer.

This looks like a pretty neat feature. I've never been a huge "strategy game" enthusiast, but I think I may need to give this a chance.

Posted by mrfizzy

Well that looks pretty awesome.

So do you just get the one base? I remember the original having multiple bases to keep different nations happy to keep the money rolling in. I wee bit hazy but I remember having good coverage of bases being important to detect UFOs and dispatch interceptors.

Looks cool though.

Awesome, one of my most anticipated games this year.

Yep, you're right. Hope that's in this one too.

The underground base building reminds me of Evil Genius.

Only X-COM game I played was Terror From The Deep and thought it was awesome so really looking forward to this one.

Yep, your in --terceptors and drop ships only had so much range, so you needed multiple bases to provide worldwide coverage... I tended to specialize my bases -- one was mostly research, one manufacturing and so on.

You also had to consider the base layout carefully because, once the aliens got pissed off about your interference in their plans they'd send strike teams in. If you built a hub and spoke base you were screwed and would never be able to fight them off, so you needed to make sure you set up multiple choke points where you could take care of the little buggers.

Still, I trust that these guys know what they are doing even if it's different from the original (since I can play that anytime anyway).

Looks great, can't wait!

The only question that's nagging at me now is whether I should sacrifice the graphics and play this on my (less than stellar) laptop or sacrifice controls and play it on my console...

Posted by dead_eye_sam

I hate that I can't eventually build everything :3... Could have just left the option and just made it more difficult the further you go.

Posted by Shakezula84

So does this mean aliens can't attack the base? That was always an awesome experience defending the base, seeing it in game.

Posted by statlus

Is it just me or did the intro music transitioned perfectly to Jake Solomon talking?

Posted by SupberUber

The ant farm sounds like a really interesting idea. I love to find my own ways within a game, and not have it feel like I'm just walking this pre-made path. I find myself spending more time in games that encourages the player to think for himself.

i will admit, half my fun in the original Xcom came from the trainer i downloaded, i always sucked at Xcom and it was a little too hard - i thought getting some cheat help (never TOO much help, but just enough) to build up my base better than it would be and give some better armor to my guys was always the most fun way for me to play, some people see cheats as breaking games, i think its a way to play a game the way you want to play it; and it ended up being one of my favorite games of all time! hopefully there will be a pc version and a trainer :)

I remember the first XCom game being tricky at times, but ultimately very satisfying. I got lucky on the finial mission to the alien planet with the final boss being near the start of the randomly generated map and killed it with those egg looking missiles that you could plot way-points for in just a couple of turns. Such a good game though.

Firaxis is so experienced, and their games are so smooth, I have no doubt this game will be a hit. I cant wait to hear more about the gameplay.

Posted by Klaimore

Wow judging from this the tutorial is going to be a bitch. Looking forward to it.

Wait...So the earth is the main character? Interesting.
