This game is starting to come together now, I bought it when it was in alpha.

Woah jetpacks! That would've come in handy in some NS clanmatches.

reminds me of an old... UT mod? I don't remember the game specifically, but the mod was exactly like this without the RTS aspect.

I can't wait for this, I love when games have players on two different levels of management. One in the sky overseeing his team, while the others on the ground killin dudes. Awesome.

The original Natural Selection is a mod based on the Half-Life engine(Golden Source which was heavily modified id Tech 1)

I haven't heard about NS2 for a really long time; is this a retail product now? For a while it was going to be an HL2 mod, right?

i've been playing the alpha for the past year or so, it's really coming along quite nicely. they still have a ways to go in terms of features however. i'd love to see some additional modes

NS1 always had the RTS portion, though. It's one of its defining characteristics.

this one has taken so long i forgot about it...looking forward to it

But NS1 had jetpacks... maybe you played an older version?

Looking very nice. I remember playing some of the original Half Life modification and it was quite interesting.

@CatsAkimbo: afaik. they were working with the source engine originally, but then decided to make their own engine. That was like 4-5 years ago.

Not sure if it will be available in a retail box (probably will), but you can pre-order it from their website and get access to the beta version on Steam.

So, I just bought this after watching this trailer.

The game itself is pretty good, it plays, feels and looks like AVP2, but has a pretty unique RTS element in it.

Used to play the heck out of the first one. Waited for this till I totally forgot about it, rediscovered it, forgot about it again and now GB just reminded me this existed.

Reminds me of Gloom (a quake 2 mod which was awesome).

Nice, that looks more interesting than the last 20-30 military shooters. :)

I loved the first game and was crazy addicted to it for a year or so. Used to just play Skulk only and scare the crap out of the marines to keep them in their bases. Man that game was great.

Have not touched NS1 since... '03? '04? All I can say is that game was sick. ONOESSS!

Man, Natural Selection provided some incredibly intense Friday night fun in years past. The game was flawed, but there were some impeccable design decisions that turned it into simultaneously one of the most immersive and most competitive games around.

Can't wait for NS2, looks like it's coming together fantastically.

NS1 was my favorite HL1 mod and I can't wait for this.

This must look so intimidating to some people :)

Maybe that's why we never see the shooter/RTS hybrid genre really take off.

The first game was amazing at the time. So stressful to be the marine commander though :p

Whoa, didn't even know this game existed! I never actually got into the game, but I LOVED the concept! Hopefully they can do something great with this!

OH MAN I totally forgot about this old mod is that what this is O_O [haven't watched the vid yet! lol] I loved that mod!!!! Really was a mod that added some heavy RPG mechanics to an fps pretty early for its time!

It's a full game being made in its own, entirely new and very moddable engine that they're calling Spark. All the gameplay code is written in LUA for easy access with modding and a user made map has already made it into the official releases.

Didn't realize so much had been added since i last played the alpha. Time to reinstall.

Wow, Natural Selection brings back so many memories of playing Half Life mods. This, DOD, and Counter Strike took up significant parts of my life at one time.

Watching this brought me back to the hours I'd spend on the weekends playing NS, TFC, and CS. I remember having absolute boat loads of fun with NS. This seems to have captured the look and feel I remember so fondly.

As long as Aliens get to have the first 30 seconds to rush the Marines il be more than happy.

Oh and its balanced in the same see-saw rush to evolve/get the HMG as before..

I bought a collectors edition of this game with access to the beta, and have only just now remembered that I did so. I'll have to go play that.

game is still great fun, bought it a while ago when they had that black armor thing, games alpha had a ton of lag, but right now netcode is far more stable. its really a throw back to a different style of game, and i welcome it.

So is this what you might call "asynchronous competitive multi-player?"

Is NS2 Like Battlezone 2, because i loved that game

I am just happy I am once again going to be able to partake in a 12-man train of slowly moving, heavy machinegun wielding, power armored badasses, repairing and shooting our way to victory.

Xenoforms...hide yo' hives.

Weapons are less inspiring (could be that Battlefield effect).

I hope there are more open maps, like barren wastelands or meadows.

I hope there are more than 32 players.

There also was a Quake II mod with the RTS aspect which was rather similar, can't remember the name off it right now, but I think it was something in the vein of "Natural Selection" too.

I might have been thinking of the Gloom mod for Quake II, that seems to be the only Q2 RTS mod that turns up on google anyway.

Looks great, had a blast with the original mod. I'm pretty sure I pre-ordered ages ago but I have no idea where that info is...

I'm going to hold out for the new Science & Industry.

I bought it the moment they announced it could be bought, but after a fairly disastrous alpha experience, I'll be waiting until its released I think.
