Hey. You guys see that guy at the beginning slamming the flag into the ground before the logo? That's totally me.

@CharlesAlanRatliff: Haha, no. A friend of mine did some work with them a few years back, and they asked him to do a live action logo bump. So he used me and my Halloween Iron Man outfit as the model in front of a green screen, slamming down that flag.

This is being developed in San Fran as well, GB should be a Quicklook EX when it releases.

Wait...the eyes are inside the mouth? Interesting design choice.

Laughed my ass off when I saw this.

I knew something was off with that view but my brain wasn't piecing it together...

Ahhh hang-overs.

That camera view has profen to be VERY effective in the original mod.

The Skulk is a small stealthy creature by design, putting the PoV so low and inside the mouth helps deliver that feeling, it's also actually pretty usefull for hitting stuff. It's one of these design decissions that made the original mod one of the most unique and immersive multiplayer expierences.

Seriously it's a multiplayer experience that never gets old because no matter how good or prepared you are, there will allways be moments that make you jump from shocked suprise. The full game still has ways to go but glad to see they finnaly got the jetpacks in.

That looked considerably more playable than the last time I tried it out. Looks like they're finally getting close to release. I should log in and check it out.

The RTS elements of Left 4 Dead were always my favorite part.

Weapons are less inspiring (could be that Battlefield effect).

I hope there are more open maps, like barren wastelands or meadows.

I hope there are more than 32 players.

lol, you never played NS1 clearly

So is this game like one big horde mode? This is the first time I’ve heard of it.

The first game was an old Half-Life mod that was AMAZINGLY ahead of its time. Considering how niche of a thing old Half-Life mods are these days, I'm not surprised hearing people draw parallels to other modern games

It's part FPS, part RTS. Biggest draw was point capture modes with one team of Marines and another of Aliens. That would immediately make me think more of the recent Dead Space 2 multiplayer, but of course NS1 came out way before that.

@AndrewB:

It’s kind of funny, because I was actually looking at the Dead Space 2 multiplayer Quick Look earlier today. Now that you’ve told me I can see the resemblance between the two games, at first it looked like they were building some sort of defense, hence my horde question. Now that I understand it better I think it looks pretty nice. Most games with similar modes (like Dead Space 2, Singularity, and Left 4 Dead off the top of my mind) have these modes tacked on as a bonus multiplayer so it would be nice to play a game where that is the main mode.

Great trailer. Bought into the alpha version a while back, but I'm going to need to upgrade my computer to play this game. It's very heavy on the moody lighting.

I also played quite a bit of NS1 years ago. I loved getting into the command capsule and being able to play the game like an RTS, except with real people as the units. An incredible experience. Of course, the learning curve could be tough because an inexperienced commander would sink the human team, but how do you get experience without trying it out? I'm really looking forward to NS2, and I hope I have the time to get into it when it comes out.

Playing as the human commander, I remember liking a strategy of scouting the alien hive sites immediately and spending early resources to build a portal between the human home base and an empty alien hive site. Enabling troopers to quickly reach the hive site usually allowed them to secure it. Then build up defenses there as a second base and allow the troopers to put some pressure on the aliens, trying to keep them from being able to expand. There were plenty of tense decisions to make as the commander. Do you bulk up defenses? Do you push towards expansions? Or do you spend valuable resources on expensive (but highly effective) weapon and armor upgrades?

The game as the aliens was very different. There was a lot more opportunity for playing as a lone-wolf, running around how you wanted, but the more organized you were with your teammates the better you'd do. It was fun playing the small alien and searching for holes in the human defenses to exploit (map knowledge could be pretty key here), or just using your superior mobility to harass them. Good times on both sides of the game.

NS1 had one of the best multiplayer experiences around. I have fond memories of that game. I can't wait to play a skulk or gorge again.

Bought it yesterday. The beta is playable for sure, but there still needs to be a lot of optimization to make it enjoyable. The frames per second dip really low when like 5 or more players are in a room, or if there a lot of grenades going off, etc.... what I am saying is it's still rough, but it's potential for improvement over the next few months (at launch) and even past that (since the team seems devoted to expanding mod tools and adding content) is infinite in my opinion. If you are tired of Battlefield and Call of Duty, or just want to try something new I highly recommend it.

For those who have followed this game since Alpha, this feels like a new game.

The new map Mineshaft feels the most balanced and with Onos and jetbacks helping push through a stalemate. There is still some balance to do and a few more additions to make the game complete but this is a game no one should miss.
