Does anyone else think touch screens are nothing more than a played out gimmick who's only purpose is extremely shallow minigames?

@xite: Overused, but there are situations where touch screens work really well. There are some (very few, but they exist) iOS games that simply wouldn't work with more traditional controls. Some DS games used the touch screen really effectively (your avatar is from one). Other times, it works as a nice accessory to what is otherwise a traditional experience. Modnation on the Vita uses it really well for track creation (and is probably the best implementation of the rear touch panel I've seen).

So I wouldn't say the only purpose is extremely shallow mini games. It's the easiest way to use them, but there have been some really effective uses of the technology on a variety of platforms.

@Addfwyn: You're right. it just seems like so many developers are shoehorning in pointless uses for the touchscreen as demonstrated in this video. Why not just use the hardware to get the best fighting game experience instead of throwing in a bunch of minigames. We'll see what Jeff thinks about it but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Are people really complaining about added features? Sure, lets hate a game because of optional added features, that actually look hilariously fun.

This is a game I will buy digitally. I always want MK with me so I can pop off a few fights.

You could also see Rain's classic costume as well as an Alt for Kenji in this trailer, which aren't in the Kore game at the moment. I'm sure Ed will add everything into the regular version for free as he has done in the past.

@xite: Except this is a fighting game first and foremost. Those minigames are just that, minigames. Nothing is being lost in this port; it's the exact same game as the console version with a bunch of extras thrown in and all the dlc.

I hope that Fruit Ninja clone was cleared with the Half Brick guys. I know a guy who works there!

An extremely exciting game, and this trailer has made it somehow made it boring. The touch controls do not seem like it something I want to use at all, please do better developers!

This isn't helping your cause, mobile games. If you look and play like every other phone game, why are you priced so much higher? Quality doesn't mean dick when it costs 10x as much if not more.

If you didn't know, these are challenges in the second challenge tower that comes with the Vita version of MK and a lot of them incorporate most of the Vita's inputs.

If I had a vita I'd get it.

Makes me want a Vita just to have the ability to play this at any given moment

If I hadn't already played a ton on the PS3 i'd consider it.

Fighters are not meant to have touch controls

I think quality means everything. I'm only going to shell our $35+ for something I believe will be quality.

I don't need another marketplace for throw-away games that skate on a $1 price tag.

I'm also curious how many phone games look or play like Mortal Kombat.

I dunno, man, these gimmicky touch-screen parts look REAAAALLY iPhone. Granted, they're still attached to a fantastic fighting game, but whew, they're not helping sell any copies.

For all we know, it's all optional, like UMvC3's "Touch Mode," so let's wait for some information. As for the mini-games, well, they're mini-games. Not much you can expect.

Touch controls are 100% optional. Most of the touching stuff they were doing is in mini games. Touching stuff in the actual fighting is restricted to performing X-ray moves and fatalities.. BOTH OPTIONAL. Also the mini games is 100% brand new content, no reason to complain about that.

Well I was already sold.... But this sold me even more so! Awesome!
