Interesting concept, hopefully the actual game will be able to execute on the idea.

I hope we get 6 man squads, more than one button for squad commands, and no recharging health.

@DJJoeJoe: Delta Force had enemy icons so it isn't just in the last 5 years. I really liked the old Rainbow Six games, I sucked at them but I still enjoyed them :D

I'm down. Pride rules are awesome, they should also have Strikeforce for the hell of it so we have a few arenas to fight in.

I thought the Rainbow Six games were still aiming for realism (or as close as they could get). I know it is not gameplay, but if the scenarios are anything like this I'd be really disappointed. It looks like a linear experience with entirely unrealistic situations.

The people who masterminded the rash of home forclosures really piss me off, I'm kinda glad justice was served....

As for the sequence....looks too scripted, RS is mostly about planning out an assault and changing tactics if shit goes bad. Hopefully future demos will have more of that.

What did they do to my Rainbow 6?

Wasn't taking away all the pre-planning enough? Do you think we want more scripted linear shooters?

Vegas 1 & 2 were great, give me more of that.

Quick time events and big icons telling me where the enemies are isn't my idea of Rainbow Six.

This.

Big icons... you mean the small icon? Have you played a video game in the last 5 years? Most games show indicators for enemies, be that colored outlines or icons on screen or on a mini-map. Rainbow Six, you one you may think you love, died a 'long' time ago while it was still about the 30min prep time for creating routes on blueprints on the PC... no one thinks that's fun any more, or at least no one willing to buy games these days. If you really care about those style of games they still exist, and are cheap.

This is a bad attitude to take. You're basically saying that there is no room for methodical and tactical gameplay in today's marketplace, and every game must homogenize towards a common denominator. Not every first person shooter has to be a Call of Duty blockbuster. There is a place for less conventional games.

And that place is smaller budget indie PC titles. It's unfortunate, because I liked games like the original R6 and Ghost Recon and wouldn't mind seeing a polished big-budget take on those slower games, but until the modern war blockbuster setpiece genre stops selling gajillions of units, big companies aren't going to want to sink even a dime on something as niche as a slow, delicate "action" game.

It may harm the overall health of originality in the mainstream marketplace, but you can't deny that this game is going to make millions more if they make it flashy and easy to parse. This isn't a game being published by a studio that can just play around with their time and money; Rainbow Six is from the multinational, publicly-traded Ubisoft corporation.

As upset as the vocal minority may be about this not being "real" Rainbow Six (which hasn't been "real" R6 for something like 8 years at this point), you can almost guarantee it would be a vocal majority complaining if they sold this game and it turned out people had laid down $60 for a waypoint mapping sim wherein they are occasionally allowed to fire twice into a guy's T-zone.

TL;DR: Yo, this is 2011, these are the kinds of games that sell. I know video games are about fantasy fulfillment, but business is about pragmatism, and when business tells you whether or not you can keep making games, business wins.

Usually concept videos go well beyond what the experience of actually playing is like (Killzone 2 anyone?) and if this is the best they can do at the concept level I'm already signing off. Another game where you just shoot tons of dudes. Fantastic.

I agree.

The original Ghost Recon for the PC still stands out in my head as one of the best experiences I've ever had with a shooter. Feeling like you're in control of something more than the gun in front of your face is an experience that should be brought to consoles. Someone will crack this nut eventually.

Ubisoft does make smaller PC titles too. To say that they wouldn't spend a dime on any title that isn't a supposed top-seller is false. Just look for yourself: http://www.ubi.com/US/Games/Search.aspx?cal=nrThere is money to be made in niche titles, and only banking on the blockbusters is a bad strategy, and would be financially risky. It's a very defeatist outlook to say that companies must only focus on what sells the most, and we must happily accept it because "that's the way it is". That sort of attitude does no one any good.

THE PERSON AT THE DOOR'S GONNA SHOOT HER

THE PERSON AT THE DOOR'S GONNA SHOOT HER

oh I was wrong.

Ugh, this is disappointing. I don't want a heavily scripted, qte I want more Rainbow Six: Vegas, a tactical shooter, with cover and squad commands, hopefully this game will still have that, because for as much as I love my Uncharted I really don't want this game to be heavily scripted like that. This just kinda contnues going the direction Tom Clancy games have been, more casual (oh shit, i'm becoming one of those people who gets angry at dumbing down.) I used to love every game in the series. I actually did like the changes they made to Splinter Cell, but I still liked the older ones better. I loved Ghost Recon, again for it's tactical gameplay, moving from cover to cover, ordering your squad around. The new one looks a lot more like a straight forward 3'rd person shooter like GoW, and hey I love GoW, but I'd rather have Ghost Recon be a Ghost Recon game and not another GoW. And the same goes for Rainbow Six, the first Vegas was my xbox live game of choice for 3 years, and I loved the campaign.

Guess I'll reserve judgement and wait to see more, the whole game can't be this scripted type stuff, not to mention it's a year old concept.

Oh and look at it this way, they have more than a whole year to change the game based on the reaction everyone is having.

This looks really disappointing. Like someone else said, looks to be heavily scripted and a lot of melo-drama. I really liked the Vegas games (even if 2 was basically a re-release of the first game for all the changes they didn't make).

Oh wow, this was... unexpected. Not only were there some very cool ideas shown in the trailer, I thought it was powerful and shocking. I rarely --how should I put it-- "feel" deaths in games, but the woman getting shot in the taxi and the man being thrown over the bridge really got to me.

Rainbow six: Vegas was one of my all time favourite games and ts a shame they dropped the ball a bit with the sequel. Still, I'm a fan of the direction they're taking, looks to be a lot more interesting than recent Tom Clancy games, especially liked the end. I've found highly scripted experiences lack challenge on the whole though, they tend to be gameplay interspersed with cutscenes that make failure difficult. If RS can walk that line properly (which frm thins...thing doesn't seem to be the case) then I'd be even more up for this than I am now

Since they obviously weren't going to make another one of the original R6's, I'm glad they went in this direction. I'd rather see them try such a radical mixture of gameplay elements than just get another standard shooter like Vegas.

Rainbow Six games are about taking a terrorist/hostage situation and approaching it from any angle, through any path, with equipment of your choice, and you decide what the other people in your team do, and when they do it.

At least, it used to be...

I remember playing this game as a kid on my cousin pc back in like 1999 or something and my fondest memory was trying to decide how to break into some building and take out the terrorist and as soon as I walked in the door I get immediately taken out and the mission still continues while I'm dead! Oh it was great.

I actually really enjoyed R6Vegas and R6Vegas 2 and I'm definitely interested in the "potential" gameplay footage that Ubisoft has created so far. If they actually manage to pull off those animations and framerate in game though that would be really something.

I like the concept, but the "reason to believe" part that this video or some form of it was going to be leaked seems much more interesting to me. Hot off the heels of Mass Effect 3 private beta leaks.
