We've had three entire games with Ezio in Europe, how many AC have we had with those generic ninjas? People are just tired of the architecture and setting. I want to see something radically different.

@humanity: The devs have stated repeatedly in many an interview that Japan makes no sense for the series. There's no lineage tie in, and once you climb Himeji Castle you're basically done considering the only tall structures in Japan up until the Meiji Restoration were (uncommon) three-story wooden structures and castles, with a pagoda or two in there.

There are interesting things they can do, but calling the series out for "eurocentrism" and wanting to transplant it to a setting based purely on "I like Japan better (because girls)" is a really poor argument. They did America, the Caribbean, hell even the Ottoman Empire. Diverse locales are not the issue, its the repetitive themes and structure of the series that is the main offender in it growing stagnant.

dam was hoping for the rumours that its egypt were true

This is Unity and not a full numbered sequel, Assassin's Creed V may very well be set in Egypt. And with the amount of new assets that would need to be developed to do a setting like that, they would need a lot more time than the time it's been since IV. Not to mention, their claim to fame, parkour, would be possible but difficult in Ancient Egypt. That being said, Ancient Egypt would be rad.

Great, another Ubi game with an overly ambitious trailer.

@creativecolossi: AC3 didn't have much in the way of tall structures but they tried to figure it out and were partly successful. The lineage doesn't matter anymore because Connor isn't an issue. In a game about silent assassins what better setting is there than Japan. Maybe you really dislike ninjas and so forth because of the cult status the Internet has elevated that entire time period into, and I get that sort of. At the same time I think that ninjas, blending, samurai swords, poison darts so on and so forth would be perfect for the series. What better way to jump start Assassins Creed into the next generation than by moving it across the globe into completely foreign lands. Start in Japan and then travel to China and Korea before the second world war. To me it makes perfect sense and quite frankly I'm really tired of Renaissance/Gothic architecture.

Thought I was done with the series after having mixed feeling about Black Flag, but next-gen only and French Revolution? Count me in

In the same boat but unless there is a drastic gameplay shake-up, I'm not biting. Seriously, this is how they get you. Last one was kinda eh, new one has a cool looking location with tons of promise and in the process you end up conveniently forgetting how shitty the last one was.

First of all, I only mentioned Japan because the person whose original comment I was quoting mentioned that setting. I personally don't care about Japan, nor do I care a whit for AC, but it would be a nice change of pace for the series. The devs stating that a non-European setting wouldn't work because of lack of tall structures is bullshit and indicates a lack of creativity on their part. No wonder the series is so stale if "climb up big tower" is a sacred tenet of their design philosophy. And though you may be in denial, eurocentrism exists and is a real issue. So please take your half-witted attempts at mockery elsewhere and try harder next time.

Paris in the fall. The last months of the year, and the end of the millennium. The city holds many memories for me. Of cafés, of music, of love... and of death.

@dryker: Well Ancient Egypt might not happen but the French Revolution would easily tie into a sequel set in Egypt or even sections set in Egypt based on how long the time line lasts for.

The big question for your part in that has to be which side Napoleon represents. Templar or Assassin.

1. Ubisoft is the same company that did a downgrade on Watch Dogs' graphics, then have the nards to put "Next Gen Starts Here" in their logo? Laughable.

2. Ubisoft is the same company that did a downgrade on Watch Dogs' graphics, then think that I'm going to be impressed with a bunch of "alpha footage" that I'm sure will see a downgrade to more realistic proportions in the next few months?

3. Assassin's Creed in the French Revolution... Wasn't this rumored, like, three or four years ago? It's about time.

Beyond that, I haven't even touched AC3 or AC4, so I don't honestly know how invested I am in Assassin's Creed as a whole at this point. I know that Ubisoft has rubbed me the wrong way too much lately...so I'm not inclined to rush out and buy their products.

I would argue the average game buying public is barely aware of the names and specifics of game engines. Or at the very least couldn't care less and wouldn't even think about it. So.

I still remember when Micheal Pacter predicted AC 2 would be set in Revolutionary Paris, I guess he was off by only 5 games.

I know very, very little about this type of history but in my head, when I think of French revolution it seems awfully similar to the type of eras the series has already covered. Anybody want to try and get me excited with some cool knowledge / awesome events they might pull from this setting?

It's French, so they'll have sex and smoke cigs.

I want an Assassin's Creed game set in 1960's Soviet Russia. Now that would be fucking awesome.

I am really curious what the Last-Gen game is now. Is it the same setting? I remember when Ubisoft Shanghai did the 360 version of Double Agent and Ubisoft Montreal did the Xbox/PS2 versions. They were both distinctly different games and the last gen version was actually better.

Two different Assassin's Creed games with different plot, different characters and a different environment could be pretty cool. That is a lot of Assassin's Creed to play but if they are anywhere near as fun as AC4 that could be pretty cool.

While I like this scenery change, I REALLY want Assassin's Creed: Feudal Japan.

What about Assassin's Creed: Future Japan.

The word "unity" predates the creation of that game engine.

Also, no it won't. You think the average Joe Bro gamer cares about game engines?

How are you guys confused by "current gen"? The current gen is the Xbox One and the PS4. Last gen is...the last gen. We're not gonna do this bullshit dance of calling it "next gen" for three or four years into the generation again.

Because the beginning of the fucking trailer even calls it "next gen". I'm fine with dropping the semantic debate though, because it's going nowhere fast, and it's really not that fucking difficult to write XB1 and PS4. Nobody is making games for Wii U anyway.

Has anyone made the "I'm french I surrender" joke yet?

I have to say that French revolution is not as cool as Feudal Japan or ANY of the big revolutions in Japan's rich history. Both from an ascetic choice and from a historically interesting point of view. Even some one who is not at all into history knows the french had a hard on for chopping people's heads off but so did the Japanese but the Japanese did it for much more interesting reasons.

French revolution in a nut shell;

Bunch of dudes play some tennis and stick a ball in king louie's ass. Then then write a new constitution every year, go to war with all of Europe, kill a king and bunch of their own, then in the end a short man from Corsica takes over the country. Then some shit in Russia happens but that is another story.

I guess it is the most interesting time in french history that continues moving the AC timeline forward, and it is a french game studio...

Finally! I skipped AC3 and AC4 because i wanted large cities to explore and climb, not the woods and shanty towns they gave me in the last two game.

Really excited for this since the last AC game i played was almost 3 years ago.
