Ubisoft Unveils Assassin's Creed: Unity

I've always enjoyed the "get's leaked and announced the next day" phenomenon.

I've been kind of down on the Assassin's Creed series since Brotherhood, but if they can nail the insanity of the French Revolution and if the light rumors of a female protagonist are true, then I'm back on board.

Ubisoft sure has some gaul to release a game set in France.

French revolution is not a bad setting, but with their release schedule I really REALLY hope they finally get rid of the poor mission design and lacklustre combat.

Naming a game after a popular game engine you're NOT using. That won't create any confusion...

I remember a while ago on the Bombcast the guys were talking about what they wanted from the next Assassin's Creed, and they didn't know. I feel the same way. I just DO NOT GIVE A FUCCCCCCKK about Assassin's Creed as it currently is. The mission structure and gameplay has just become tiresome to me. But if the game was completely redesigned, I dunno if that would do much either.

Eh. It'll look amazing and the French Revolution was rad. So I'll hear anecdotal stuff and that'll sound cool and maybe I'll grab it hella cheap because for some reason Assassin's Creed games always seem to get a permanent price drop in Canada about a month after release.

ANYWAY, I AM HYPE FOR THE SETTING BUT NOT FOR THE GAME BECAUSE EH ASSASSIN'S CREED.

Setting is rad. I wasn't on board the "Watch_Dogs Downgrade" train, but this "alpha footage" reeks of bullshit.

Hope I'm wrong and the game looks this good on current gen systems (though no promises of the sort have even been made, so I won't be outraged if it doesn't), hell, it'd be nice to at least see it look this excellent on high end PCs (in spite of the fact I will never own one).

Show me the in-engine. No way will there be crowds like that.

This is real footage, but I doubt this is how the game is actually going to look and run like on consoles this fall. The French Revolution is a fantastic setting for a game, a lot of crazy shit went down. And yeah, a female protagonist for such a big release would be interesting(not counting Liberation here).

WTF. I thought they'd just commited to numbering the games.

Anyway, graphically it looks fantastic, if that is indeed real-time. Finally actual crowds.

Why is it called Unity? I thought it meant they were using the Unity engine, but the Unity engine isn't capable of looking that good.

I like how much people whine about how this isn't set where they want it to be set.

if thats what the actual game will look like (or if the final game will look close to that) then it looks fantastic.

How would it create confusion? Relatively speaking, barely anyone knows what a game engine is, let alone that they can name one.

Most people don't know nearly that much about games to know the name of game engines.

Oh ANOTHER AC game set during a revolution... great. Just give me my Japanese set AC game already

Haha I'm sure the average layperson doesn't really know anything about engines aside from their names briefly appearing every time they start a game. And if a person is knowledgeable enough to know about engines (like most of us in this community), they'll easily be able to differentiate.
EDIT: Probably should've reloaded the page after walking away for a bit to see everyone else make the same point.

I'm tentatively excited about this installment. Black Flag was amazing but AC3 left a sour taste in my mouth. I'm hoping this franchise doesn't turn into a "better installment every other year" ala Call of Duty's of the past. But I've bought every other AC game in the past so that probably won't change with this release.

I've been asking for an Assassin's Creed game in the French Revolution since AC2 so I'm pretty excited. But at the same time I'll still cautious if this series can last. Black Flag was good but 3 hurt soo bad.

After many years they've finally caved in to setting a game in Paris. Feel like it's been forever since that rumor as been making the rounds, not that I'm complaining.

Looks great and after Black Flag I'm all in for more Assassin's Creed.

It looks gorgeous, but the whole Watch Dogs thing has made me pretty skeptical about these sorts of trailers. Hopefully it holds up to this promise.

This setting is definitely bringing me back on board with AC. with what little is shown, it gave me the vibe of the concept Ubi had for first Assassins Creed which is pretty exciting. at least as far as being able to blend in a far more massive crowd.

Awesome! I was hoping they'd do a French Revolution game. It always seemed like a perfect choice. You've got a ton of notorious characters, an iconic city, and a messy and convoluted series of events which continue to be relevant to modern politics!

I'm such a fucking idiot. When I read the rumors I was like "wait, why are they making Assassin's Creed in Unity?". Nobody put Assassin's Creed colon Unity.

How are you guys confused by "current gen"? The current gen is the Xbox One and the PS4. Last gen is...the last gen. We're not gonna do this bullshit dance of calling it "next gen" for three or four years into the generation again.
