Jeff I went to your twitter just now with the expectation of viewing a picture of the meat bowl in question. There was no meat bowl. :(

In order for this game to appeal to me, the mechs would have to differ much more in terms of control and capability from the regular human units. It need not necessarily be MechWarrior complexity, but at least something along the lines of Battlefield helicopters and jets and tanks. This all looks too similar. I was more interested in that other mech game that came out on PC last year, i don't recall the name.

edit---- the game I was thinking of is Hawken

Posted by Mercury45

The question that really needs to be asked: did any of Jeff's stats go up after eating that beef bowl?

I don't know if this game is for me, but I've been looking forward to seeing the guys try it out.

Haven't been this excited for a game since Monder Warfare 2 !

Posted by LordLOC

I'm still shocked this game runs on the Source engine. Then again, these guys gutted the Quake 3 engine and made it into the most successful games of all time. So, they probably did the same with the Source engine (which is basically the Quake 2 engine anyways, so meta!)

@jeff do you find that pot shotting a Titan from a rooftop, with a rocket launcher is a bit over powered? Seems like a tactic that could get potentially abused, especially since the Titan has no way of getting up there and possibly no weapons to effectively combat that strategy.

That's really my only concern. Everything else looks super fucking rad and I'm pumped.

Game looks dope. Hope I get into the beta.

DOOOOOPE

Edited by AcidBrandon18

I really want to play this, but I don't want to buy an XboxOne. >_<

The Reloading thing seems interesting. reloading becomes a tactical choice! 2014 huh? :D

Lets see if it works in mp environment though. Still, really upped my interest in this game. Cool choice.

I like the look but it's a bummer that the idea of adding AI was underdelivered on by using such shitty, nonresponsive bots. I think there's definitely a good idea here in making the game more fun for low level players who have trouble taking care of people who are really good, but make it so obviously easy-mode is going too far.

This is the greyest, greenish game I've ever seen.

It would be nice if they added gamemodes where the AI difficulty is higher (maybe even increase the amount of points for killing them?). Ofcourse that would only work if the AI is any good, otherwise it would just be annoying to get killed by (literal) aimbots...

Posted by D_W

The Titans don't really seem to factor much into the battles in the modes they've shown. But then again I'm not interested in the COD styled multiplayer games anyway.

Looks fun, whenever i decide to buy and X1 this will be number one on my must buy list.

Can't wait to see the dumb machinima videos people make with those mechs.

Jeffrey's back in the house, large and in charge!

In a Call of Duty game you have what, 90-100 bullets in our clips? So having 9 clips of 30 I can see them throwing away the bullets you don't use because you still wind up with enough to be effective. And that makes it more about knowing when to reload. You have 10 bullets left, maybe reload now so if you run into a group of enemies you don't get caught reloading in the middle of a firefight. The game certainly looks like a better version of Call of Duty. Let's hope it plays that way.

Edited by arcn

I feel like much of the excitement behind the idea that these the guys would make something completely revolutionary once they stopped being tied down by Call Of Duty, has pretty much died out for me. Basically because the answer to the question which everyone's been asking, which is "holy shit I wonder what these really talented people are gonna make now?" seems to be, at its core, mostly Call of Duty, and after Ghosts, I have absolutely no interest in anything that feels like that game.

Edited by Sooty

So basically they went away from IW and made another Call of Duty.

Welp.

It looks like it could be fun but this is not exactly what I was hoping for, it's way too similar to a Call of Duty, just mechs are the killstreak bonuses. Signed up for the beta.

Why? It doesn't look very good and that makes sense because in 2014 the Source engine is dated. It's still a respectable performance for an engine closing in on 10 years of age though. (admittedly it has been updated numerous times over the years)

I really never got into CoD multiplayer, but the leveling/unlock system looks good. I also like the idea of just staying mobile and killing dudes from hiding and/or rooftops. Just using the Titan for extra backup and as a distraction. Looking forward to seeing how things look on PC.

Looks fun; thanks for the vid.

Edited by Soapy86

I really wish I could see in this whatever it is other people see. To me it just looks identical to Call of Duty, with the addition of double-jumps and wall-running. Kind of seems unfinished as well. No single player. The multiplayer has a tiny player count padded with AI. Really dumb AI at that by all accounts. I don't know. I really, really want to like this game. In fact I like everything about it, except the part where it's Call of Duty.

I am excited for a new kind of game but was not impressed by this game. I hope Destiny is good.

This is more or less what I was thinking.

On the other hand there is so many great looking non FPS games coming out this year that I won't care if Titanfall and Destiny don't bring back my interest for the genre. Dying light, the witcher 3, infamous, dark souls 2 and watchdogs all sound much better than sligtly upgraded versions of CoD and Borderlands.

Jeff not cloaking when using the smart pistol makes me cry.

Video started out like "holy shit this looks fun and exciting and I must play this" then about the 38 minute mark I was bored of it. So....yeah. I'll try the PC beta if I get invited (I applied), but not going to be paying $60 for this on day one (not that the game will even work knowing EA) unless the beta really blows me away.

Edited by Shevar

For me, this is a game I will have to play to see whether I like it or not, as the footage doesn't really speaks to me.

By no means is it bad, it looks pretty nice actually, but I don't feel the "woah" factor. I know its a weird comparison with Destiny as that game has a different kind of play-style and scope in mind, but I felt more drawn to what Bungie showed off than what Respawn is putting out.

Regardless of my preference, I'm still excited that Next-Gen can really begin and we are getting some pretty cool games by the looks of it. Double Yeah for new I.P.

Argh looks so fun argh why aren't I playing it right now argh!

That Smart Pistol is the lamest shit ever.

Edited by billyok

No interest in playing this but I like the devotion to gun magazine science. I feel like that used to be commonplace in shooters and hope it comes back, because it's a wrinkle that forces you to fight smarter. (Like health packs. I love health packs. Long live health packs.)

Everything else, I dunno. Looks funnish but for all the bluster we've heard about this game, I was expecting more. At the very least, I was hoping we were past the "braindead, awareness-free AI" phase of these games.

@elixirbronze: it's out of sync for me too. I tried different video settings (progressive, HTML5, etc) but all of them share the sync problem.

man i feel so jaded, it does look so much like call of duty to me and i am just not into that kind of game any more. i just wish they would at least change up the art design

This game should be the first million unit seller of 2014. The first impression is that it is no ordinary COD knockoff. The fact that it doesn't look that different from outset should not mean it is stale, but indicative of very finely tuned and well thought out formula. There is no gameplay gimmick or ploy to make it look unbalanced or obtuse. Even the Titan gameplay appears to just dissolve into the milieu of fast paced action and is seamlessly integrated, as well as scaling obstacles via wall running. Familiar enough for CoD players to transition effortlessly but enthralling to make them stay. Titanfall is the first killer app of the year.

Posted by jarowdowsky

Anyone tried the alpha online who can report on the netcode? I'm assuming Jeff was on a LAN set-up at the event.

Playing Ghosts on a mate's PS4 it was a horrible experience going back to the laggy COD experience. Nothing worse than dumping shots into someone and watching a killcam where you get one shot off into a wall before dropping.

WHAT IS THE POINT OF THE MECH GAME IF I CANT PAINT IT ANNOYING COLORS OR PUT DECALS OF ANIME GIRLS ON IT?!?!

Edited by AMyggen

@thoseposers: Yeah, I feel like people who are totally sick of the COD formula won't like this game, from what I've seen. For me this seems to change enough to be really interesting, but there's no denying that this is a faster paced COD with mechs (which sounds fucking awesome to me!).

The fast pace of this reminds me of how much I want a new, good Unreal Tournament game. Come on, Epic, sell that franchise to a D

developer willing to make a game. I still play UT2004 with friends from time to time, just one of the best games ever made.

I really wish the Titans had swords. :(

Posted by StoffInator

I think I am the only one who has no interest in this game. Not a big fan of mechs.

I have never been into CoD or anything like it, but this just looks so damn cool, I'm gonna need that Xbone.

You know Titanfall 2 will be so much better on PS4 ;)

Edited by Solidsnak

I find it amusing that they are so enamored with the increased mobility the game offers but every time they did a look at warframe they failed to grasp that that game features many of the same options and is the reason I find it so fun. But to be fair I'm also looking forward to Titanfall as well, and it will be nice to continue to have faster movement options in these type of games too.

Edited by itspizza

For me, it doesn't seem that they made being in a titan much different than being on the ground. When you're in a titan, it just seems like your doing the same things, except that you are bigger.

Looks rad, I'll pick it up on PC if it is stable around launch. Also I hope they add swords and custom paint jobs so we can make them look like Gundams/MSs.The reloading thing is a nice change, though I would have active reload in there too, which is much more satisfying (though having both could be awkward in terms of pacing.)

Also the mecha grabbing you and putting in the cockpit is such a fucking cool animation, I wish the game had more stylish shit like that.

Has Jeff lost weight? If so, it fell onto Brad. He's blowing up like a dirigible!

Impressed: Wall-running looks really cool, a lot of the visual design looks slick. Weird as it sounds for a multiplayer game, the world ambience stood out to me as well.

Unimpressed: Being in a titan seems... bad for winning. Also, visual fidelity looks very disappointing for a next-gen game. If you put a screenshot from this game in front of me 5 years ago, I would think it was CoD DLC.
