Want to Watch a Lengthy Gameplay Demo of XCOM: Enemy Unknown? Of Course You Do

I'll be passing on this. Premise, characters and environments look cool but turn based games aren't my bag.

Wow had a serious mass effect flash back moment around 3 min mark.

Mmmmm, looks like a lot of fun and a tough, dangerous single player game to really, really dig into.   I'm not going to preorder it because I've never played a turn based strategy game before; I really wanna see the GB QL and hear their comments.   But right now, I'm 90% sure I'm on board for this game and it's my 'big one' I'm looking out for this holiday.

Firaxis confirmed that Sid is a playable character back during the E3 podcasts.

Looks like they're dis-incentivizing everyone getting jetpacks. Oh well. I loved having a platoon of expert alien-exterminators roaming the skies of Earth.

It's so nice to see something that relies less on twitch reflexes and more on tactics and planning. I love FPSs just like anyone, but I'm hoping for more turn-based games in the future. This game looks deep and engaging with its gameplay. There's plenty of room for variety here, and I've long thought that FPSs have become a bit too dominant in the games market. Now if only someone would come back and revive the adventure game genre, and I'd be ecstatic. I'm very happy with how this is looking.

When you're used to GB, 7 minutes is no longer a "lengthy" demo. Still cool though.

I hope you can turn off the wild camera zoom in everytime something dies. That's would get irritating while playing. :/

Seems like they did their utmost to keep the actual gameplay shown in this gameplay demo to a minimum. This is more like a trailer with occasional clips of gameplay interspersed.

This game is going to be amazing!....and terrifying......

The guys keep talking about this on the podcast and now I understand why they're so excited. Consider me on board.

If Sid Meier is our last hope then I think our chances are pretty good.

you can customize you dudes to look like whomever you want, also name them. So yeah, everyone is in the game.

So 6 minutes is "lengthy" and 40 minutes is "quick." Okay, got it.

Guess I havent been following all that close. First I have seen or heard of Sid. Lol, actually its the first Ive actually seen what he even looks like.

This looks great. I think I'm more interested in this incarnation than the fps which has oddly gone media silent.

With this and Dishonored (that game seems to take lessons from the original Deus Ex), it seems like old school pc style gaming is being resurrected on consoles. I hope the sales of these games prove there are more types of gamers these days in what was thought to be the core target demographic. [Wipes tear from eye]

Since there are some missions and objectives that reward you with new operatives.

I played this at PAX and nearly went back through the line to do it again. Great demo and it looks/feels great.

@CaLe: Hey there. On top of the youtube channel they have a Twitch account too and there is 3 vids for around 10h worth of Xcom (multi too) with the dev team & BL2 if you want. Just go there and scroll through the vids as there are some idle time, talks about those plus NBA 2K13 and they switch from one game to another.

Can not wait for this to come out. I've played a ton of the original and most every other turn based strategy game that could capture some part of what made it so great over the years (JA, Silent Storm are the only ones outside of the first two x-coms I've ever returned to) and this looks even cooler than what I'd imagined a Firaxis made remake/reimagining/whatever would be like. October can't come fast enough.
