Going back to these videos as I'm deep into Scholar of the First Sin now. I love how everyone is just constantly trolling each other when it's not their play through - 'Oh yeah, hit the crab guy, I'm sure you just have to wake him up, let's see what happens.'

Sure doesn't seem like it. But perhaps we could persuade Vinny or Brad to do a second playthrough and join Way of Blue to guard the progression of the stream somewhat. Sounds interesting to me, but I doubt they'd do it.

Really too bad. I enjoyed the Souls streams. They were the best return for my subscriber money.

Seeing vinny in that vengarls armour is hell. When I pressed A to pick it up I was accidentally too close to a bonfire and it brought me back to Majula. When I went back the stuff was gone. I'm still wearing armour i got within a few hours of playing

@davidh219: 15-30 minutes to fight? Not a single boss took me that long to fight.

Yes, I understand that everyone is going to have a different experience based on their build, but lets be honest: creating a decent build is part of the game. If you 'mess up' your build, then reallocate your points to create a better one that better suits what you are trying to do. There is no build that isn't suited for the game, but you can put points into things you don't use; in which case you mess up.

If you're going to do a SL-1 run or whatever restrictions you place on yourself that the game does not: you really can't complain it takes you longer. At least, that's how I feel.

I've started a new character. My intent is to have him be a pyromancer knight. I'm still getting used to having to put points into INT and/or FTH to raise my pyromancy power. I haven't done that yet, so I'm not using my pyromancies that much yet. Purely a melee build so far and I'm going through the game much faster than with my previous character. No problems here.

Melee builds definitely seem viable. Actually, a great choice. I'm killing everything much faster than before.

I'd argue that 20 Vit and a SL of over 100 isn't low HP but rather average. So I'm saying I don't like enemies that have unblockable grab moves that destroy an entire lifebar in one go.

It's not that big a deal though so I'll just leave it at different strokes for different folks. There are always going to be some things that some find completely fine while others don't - we can just agree to disagree on this point.

If you don't like one hit kills you would NOT like two of the optional bosses in this game. One-hit kills, REALLY large health bars. Talking about a 15-30 min fight without fucking up once. Honestly it wouldn't be a souls game if SOMETHING didn't insta-kill you.

Based on what I've seen of this game on GB, the art direction in DSII looks much less compelling than in the last two games

You should try playing the game. They haven't shown any of the best areas, imo. I loved Dark Souls but the enviroments were kinda bland in a lot of places. Even the places that were different (Duke's Archives, Crystal Cave, Demon Ruins/Lost Isalith) were pretty empty with few memorable set pieces. I think they did much better here in that respect. Iron Keep, Dragon Aerie/Dragon Shrine, and Doors of Pharros are all really, really cool but they're pretty deep into the game (especially Dragon Aerie/Shrine which is my personal fave).

This post is a little bit late, but OMG he deequips you!!!!!!!!!! I was way too overleveled when got there so my ultra Greatsword +10 killed him in somewhere around one or two minutes, so I never got see that mouth attack.

I'll have to keep that in mind during new game plus.

@humanity: I still don't get it. You can just hit a mimic and it won't grab you. There is no 'forced' in this situation. You're basically saying you feel traps that can be avoided easily shouldn't kill you if you don't want to raise your HP because it's a one hit kill with low HP.

It sounds a bit weird. Like saying the enemies in the late game have too much health because I don't feel like reinforcing my weapons.

@zevvion: My complaint is that when a mimic grabs you they tend to chomp away at your health until you die. It's not like you're fighting them and you missed a block or something, they just grab you and force you into an unbreakable animation.

To a lesser degree it's like Clickers from the Last of Us. Sure I knew the solution there was to not get spotted by them, but it still sucked that it was instant death if they touched me.

In DS2 it's not always instant death, but with 20 in health, a full life bar and fairly heavy armor, it still managed to kill me from a single grab. I don't like one hit kills is all - I don't think thats too outrageous.

There are no "nothing I can do about it" deaths in this game.

That depends on what your definition of "nothing I can do about it" really is. There are several enemies that will lock you into animations that you can't escape and very often result in death unless you have a ton of health - like for instance the Mimic Chests. Just yesterday I opened a mimic chest with full health, and it simply chomped me to death. There was quite literally nothing I could do about what was happening and I'm level 95.

I could have hit the chest with my sword to test it beforehand, but if the only option to avoid inescapable animation death is to simply never get hit, then that is not enough. A binary margin of error of is not "margin" at all.

... what? That makes no sense. I haven't been killed by a mimic chest in DSII ever. You already know the solution, but you complain because you don't want to use that solution? ... what? It's not making a lot of sense to me.

This game might be harder at some points -- But man did they overpower the Ring of Life Protection!

It doesn't go away anymore, so when it breaks, yo just need to spend 3000 souls at the blacksmith to fix it and make it usable again. Unless you absolutely need 4 rings equipped at all times, you can just spend that slot and you'll never lose your souls or humanity upon death.

This was pretty funny duders. I'm surprised Vinny died on the Covetous Demon and I had no idea he could eat your equipment off of you. I totally beat him on my first shot though I'm a spellcaster. I think I lucked out by having the ring to speak to the Manscorpion and it's thanks to a lesson I learned in Dark Souls 1. Which is to say you should pay close attention to unique vendor items. If you speak to him you can summon him during the scorpion lady boss. Honestly though he was kind of useless and I ended up losing even with his and another players' help. I had to solo the boss while hollow and surprisingly I beat her without much trouble. And of course he'll give you something for beating her when you talk to him again.

Totally. I endure Brads to enjoy Vinnys playtime and Rorries commentary. The indecisiveness and constant bitching really sour the whole thing.

haven't played 2 yet my self, but at least on Vinnys stream, the level design looks pretty bad at points. Like a cheap Quake level.. Maybe it's just the high brightness-level.

in Dark Souls, the areas I liked the most were the ones where you had a lot of overlapping and verticality, like that goddamned poison-moat place, where you could look up at places you were before, and other places you hadn't been yet. Or that sunset castle bit.

in the few minutes I've actually watched (I try not to look at the screen, for spoiler reasons) I haven't seen many of those intricate level designs.

Hope I'm all wrong about this.

This video had so many great moments during the boss fights.

Also, since I noticed they weren't doing it in the video and other people may not be either: looking at lore/information for equipment is very important even if you're not interested in the lore since several otherwise terrible pieces have special effects listed there such as item find up, experience up, and so on. Of course, some equipment is just bad and that's all there is to it.

I think it just changes her attack patterns, and to the worst it seems. I tried cutting a whole bunch of tails in this game and it seems there's no tail weapons anymore. They made it easier and more comprehensible to exchange the boss souls for weapons and spells though. So it's kind of a Megaman reward system -- kill a boss, get a weapon now.

Well, you could get more health. That's "something you can do about it".

But mimics are stronger than the normal enemy of the area, they are supposed to be a really unpleasant trap. It's all about initiative with them, you get them first and they usually die before even getting up, but if they get you first you're dead -- unless you have tons of health -- it's their gamble.

So NEVER open a chest without checking for traps! One of the mimics that got me was the one disguised as a stone box in Iron Keep. The thing killed me, but got me smiling and recognizing how the brilliant bastards that put it there lured me into that false sense of security (which is what mimics are all about in the end).
