@JoeyF: I kinda like the movements while filming.  I might be in the minority but it makes the conversation feel more real, not rehearsed at all.  That's something I can only get at Giant Bomb.

Irrational Games are sort of like the AC/DC of the game development world.  They take the same concept, mix it up slightly, and resell it again and again.

Stop drinking Guinness and watch the 10-minute gameplay trailer. This is FAR from Bioshock 2.5. "

i gotta agree with that. this is definitly NOT a 2.5 it adds so many different ideas while keeping the feel but not look to it. it looks like there 'll be some kindof "new big daddys" but in the end it may be very the opposite of whatwecan expect. otherwise it wouldnt be bioshock anymore.  its just gonna be a very different experience and thats all that matters.

Really great interview. I was hoping you would edit in a flying Ryan landing on the roof and destroying that water tower at the end though. Oh well, I'll live.

Probably the best game-related interview I've ever seen, thanks Jeff and GB! The game is looking great.
As for multiplayer... who cares, really? In a game such as BioShock, where the narrative and storytelling are so important to the gameplay experience, MP kinda seems useless or distracting, even. I'll admit that I may be biased though, cause I'm pretty much just a single player lover.

Great interview, just hope the "use or don't use" Elizabeth isn't the "harvest or don't harvest" mechanic from the first, would like to do it as I feel fit on a moment by moment basis and not having to stick to either or due to the ending.

Man, I agree with your cry for new IP but just because this isn't new IP doesn't mean it's not going to be awesome. It's plainly not a half-step up from Bioshock 2, though. If anything Bioshock 2 is Bioshock 1.5 and Infinite is Bioshock 2. Everything but the gameplay mechanics is "new IP".

I think Levine is more coy than confused, he's not a PR douche, he's a game designer, and he has to be careful about what he says to the press and try to distil what he's been working on for the past year or so into something cogent. That probably isn't easy.

What you say about the Bioshock name is cynical but I understand it. To me "Bioshock" seems like a decent way to convey the type of gameplay the game will have, not where or when it's set.. It's only associated with underwater cities because the first game in the series was set in one. You probably wouldn't make this argument about GTA. "What, this GTA is set in the 80's?! BULLSHIT IT'S A MARKETING STUNT! GTA IS SET IN MODERN TIMES!!"

Despite some of the concerns expressed about gaming journalism at Giantbomb's PAX panel it does appear to be alive and well right here. It sounded from the interview as though smart people are making a well thought out and well crafted game. Expectations are high but the signs from the initial footage look pretty good to me.

Excellent interview. Ken Levine seems like a rather grounded dude. It's nice to find out about a lot of the thoughts and processes going on behind the development and design of this game, especially with a lot of the cynicism being directed toward it for being called a Bioshock game.

Quite reassuring to hear him talk about the gameplay as though it has some depth.  The 'gameplay' trailer made it look like barely more than a series of QTEs.  I still don't really understand how much freedom the player has about where they can go at any given time, but at least it sounds less 'critical path' than the trailer suggested.

As someone who makes short films I really enjoy freehand camera, I think it can make a movie feel more organic.  At the same time this video felt a bit too shaky-cam to me.  Or sway-cam, actually.  Shaky-cam is when someone who is not Vinny or Drew films a mailbag segment.

Behold genius. Stunned that people are still upset about this being called BioShock. I'll certainly be laughing when this ends up being incredible just like, you know, practically every game Ken Levine has made.

Edit: And holy shit, Chris Remo. Best interview ever.

Reguarding the multiplayer debate, i remember playing the first Bioshock and thinking "man this would make for a great multiplayer game".  IMO, any multiplayer game that has you doing more than shooting people in the head is a refreshing change from the standard CoD formula.

Ofcorse adding multiplayer can detract from development of the single player and almost allways leads to one aspect of the game being weaker than the other.  It's a shame that so many games are limited to a strict develoment schedule just to get em out to market.

I SWEAR every time someone says they don't care about Bioshock Infinite because it's a "sequel", I'm gonna punch a goddamn baby.

I like new IPs too, you know, but this game is undoubtedly going to be quality, it's going to be immersive, and fantastic - Bioshock is easily one of my favorite games Of All Time (that includes games as far back as NES) and writing it off simply because it is part of a series is incredibly unfair to the blood, sweat, and tears these guys are putting into it.

On that note, I love listening to Ken talk. Sure he seemed to have a bit of trouble collecting his thoughts at some point but that was fine, it was undoubtedly because of being worn out and trying to find a way to express his thoughts on something without giving too much away or something he shouldn't. You can really tell how much he cares about what he works on just listening to him talk.

Also mad props to Jeff. You're such a fantastic interviewer.
