Dark Souls Endurance Run?

This has really made me want to go back to Dark Souls but I need to study....

Ryan took to Dark Souls very well. Those rolls were perfectly timed, even right off the bat with the Asylum Demon. The only skill he lacks is knowing when to drop his shield to regenerate some stamina. Sometimes even a quarter second of faster stamina regeneration will get you enough to block the next hit in a chain of attacks.

Getting the same flickering video thing between ~35:00 and ~50:00. I actually started to sort of "tune it out".

Yeah besides learning getting the stamina regen down he did pretty well, it always kinda bothered me the stance he took on these games I hope he keeps going.

GRAPHICS: TIE

Image quality on both platforms is ostensibly identical, while performance is an apples and pears situation. Neither the 360 or PS3 version can definitively claim to have an absolute edge here.

It appears a post-processing filter running on the PS3 version is affecting the clarity of certain text elements, such as the Estus Flask notification in the bottom-left of the screen. As with most filters working indiscriminately across the whole frame, text and HUD elements often get caught in the line of fire, although it really only seems to have affected the text in this case. On very close zoom, this filter is also the likely cause of a very subtle softening to the definition of distant textures not evident on 360. These are nitpicks more than anything, and are only evident when closely scrutinized next to images of the rival version.

PERFORMANCE: 360

Interestingly, destroying multiple crates or urns – a physics-based task which should favour the PS3′s more powerful CPU – incurs frame-rate drops down to 25FPS, while, the 360 version typically gets away unscathed.

During the boss fight demonstrated in the video below, however, destruction physics on the asylum columns have a dramatic impact on both consoles, with the PS3 version even nose-diving down to 10FPS for a spell. On the flip-side, Microsoft’s console appears to have its own specific issue with the volumetric fog used in the doorway barriers, which is unusual given that this should be handled by its more proficient GPU.

Dark Souls’ liability to drop frames in this fashion is made evident much earlier on, with the combination of multiple assailing enemies and a fire-breathing wyvern in one sequence consistently causing drops to under 10FPS on both consoles. Also considerable is the way each version takes a jarring hit during actions involving particle effects, such as lighting bonfires, exploding fire bombs, and bleeding out from a series of arrow strikes, with the PS3 shedding a few more frames in like-for-like cases.

I watched this whole thing from the native player and in HD. :)

You can do it man. I spent the last two days and maybe 20 tries but I finally beat those two mother fuckers. Don't quit now because as soon as you beat those guys you get the ability to warp between bonfires.

Great look at darksouls. Over 2 hours to kill the first boss. man.

I was literally yelling encouragements at my screen when Ryan was fighting the Taurus Demon, that was fucking awesome.

It was a joy watching Ryan's face while he was fighting the Taurus Demon the second time.

I like the creepy anonymous rape guy voice they gave Jeff at the end.

Watching Ryan play Dark Souls makes me never want to play videogames ever again. Great video though!

I think something screwy happened with the encode....

Ryan beating that boss and the crowd cheering reallllly makes me want to pick up Dark Souls. I feel like I need to go back and finish Demon's Souls first tho.

I still think it's crazy that people say that barely anything in this game is explained, when almost everything you need to know is told to you in item descriptions. It's like someone saying that Battlefield doesn't explain anything because there's not a tutorial for the M16.

I never wanted to play Dark Souls. Now I totally want to play Dark Souls. Thanks, jerks.

This was great! Infuriating at some parts (they tell you what souls do at the item description screen, and no one seemed to have found out that enemies sometimes give you humanity as well as souls), but great.

I dare not dream that I'll ever see more of this though.

Damn Ryan did exceptionally well. He didn't rush through, he picked up the timing with the combat really quickly and beat the Taurus Demon on his 2nd try. It took me far, far longer to get through the area and maybe 4 times to beat the boss.

Ryan's level of disdain is something that is epic in this video. Particularly the "blah blah blah behind the wall blah blah blah" part. I love watching other people torture themselves with Dark Souls.

Thoroughly impressed with Ryan's first try at Dark Souls, I really doubt I'd do as well, even following a guide.

With as clunky and deliberate as the combat in that game can be I really wouldn't have expected him to come to terms with it so quickly. Though, he might have been lucky with his heavy stamina use and the fearless ladder climbing.

Dark Souls totally has story. And pretty deep, interesting lore. It's just that you have to work for it, and pay attention. It's not given to you in sissy cutscenes like those little girl games everyone else makes!

Exactly. I love it and especially the ambiguity of everything. NPCs lie to you and you never know if you're doing good or evil with your actions. And then there's that whole Pygmy discussion on the net...

Lies, Will Smith!! If you are sitting at a fire, you CAN get invaded. The fire goes out and your character stands up, ready to die.

It's just at Firelink shrine you can't get invaded. That's because there's no boss. Any area you beat the boss in is safe from invasion.

So much bad advice!! "Don't go down" Oh, you mean where the zweihander, caduceus shield, winged spear, a bunch of souls, and the binoculars are just sitting there for the taking? No, no, don't go there. Fail.

@bunji: No, but check your free hard drive space. I have that issue when I run low on my SSD with youtube videos.

This HD video im payng for seems about as HD as an old banana.

Whatever you do, Ryan... but if you keep playing DS, don't take this advice! Don't read a strategy guide for progression purposes. Just for stat explanation, crafting and things like that.

So many people think they are really playing this game when they are actually just repeating steps they read or saw somewhere on the net (see all the "get the drake sword" comments everywhere).

No, it's best to discover this game by yourself - even if you are missing stuff that way. I never used the Drake Sword once since I found it by myself really late in the game.

I also suggest to step down the couch advice a little bit since it takes out most of the fun when they explain every little thing that's around the next corner beforehand. This is not Dark Souls. Discovering Dark Souls by yourself is the real deal.
